"This hotel is very neat and clean. The room is spacious with a beautiful view of Lake Biwa, and a walk along the lake is very relaxing. It's definitely worth staying here. I especially love the fragrant POLA toiletries they provide, and the bath salts are also lovely for a very comfortable bath in the evening. 👍 There's a free shuttle service from the north exit of Otsu Station, just across the street, that takes about 10 minutes to reach the hotel. There's a convenience store within a 5-minute walk, and a large mall about a 15-minute walk away. Near Otsu Station, there's a food market with great food at reasonable prices. I'd love to come back again if I have the chance."
"All rooms at the hotel are lake-facing, offering fantastic views of Lake Biwa right from your door. The hotel is located right on the lake, perfect for a leisurely stroll along the shore.
The hotel provides a free shuttle bus service from Otsu Station, which is very convenient for tourists. However, it's also just a 10-minute walk (or slightly more) to Otsu Station, so transportation is generally very accessible.
There's also a terrace on the third floor of the hotel where you can enjoy panoramic views of Lake Biwa.
The rooms are quite spacious and very clean."
"The accommodation comes with breakfast, and the breakfast is rich. The breakfast changes every day for three days, which is good. The hotel is about a 5-minute walk from JR Otsu. There are some shops and supermarkets around. You can walk to Mii Temple, but it is relatively quiet and there are not many tourists. I stayed on the 14th floor. The room is small but well-equipped. I operated the machine myself. There were Chinese prompts. I chose not to clean, but I was given a new towel every day, which was hung in the bag outside the door. The wifi in the room was available in the afternoon of the first day, but it was not available at night. I went to the front desk to negotiate. The communication was a bit complicated, but it was solved smoothly. In addition, a password was given, but the wifi in the room on the 14th floor was not very stable for three days. Overall, it is still a recommended place."
"We were traveling independently, and the single room was much bigger than the one we had in a tour group before, and the environment was also very good. The highlights of this hotel: it is close to Otsu Tram Station, and there are only two stops to Kyoto by taking the new rapid line: Yamashina Station and Kyoto Station. It is more convenient to travel north to Lake Biwa. It takes less than half an hour to walk to Otsu Cruise Port, and a taxi costs about 1,000 yen. Go to Japan's national treasure town: Hikone; take the Hiei Mountain Line Cable Car (Sakamoto Station) to overlook Lake Biwa; soak in the 1,200-year-old hot springs, etc., and use the tram to transfer conveniently. If you want to see one of the three most scenic views in Japan: Amanohashidate, you can also take the JR New Rapid Line at Otsu Station and transfer to Amanohashidate Tram Station. Although this hotel is close to the tram station, it has good sound insulation and there are few trams after 10 p.m., which hardly affects sleep. We stayed here for 5 nights, visited Gion in Kyoto for one day, Lake Biwa for two days, and Mount Hiei and hot springs for one day, but it still felt like not enough time."
"The lady receptionist is very helpful and kind. Much appreciated for your help! In general, the hotel situates for just a 2-minute distance from Seta JR Station, and it takes around ~20min travelling time from/to Kyoto. Reasonable facilities given the price is economic. Thank you for the hospitality."
"The location is excellent, 2 minutes walk from the Shishan J R Station bus station. It is also very convenient to eat around and there are many varieties to choose from. Although the hotel room is a bit small and the facilities are a bit old, the service attitude is good and clean. There is free tea and coffee in the lobby, and cleaning supplies need to be picked up. Luggage storage is provided. All in all very convenient."
"The single room is relatively large. What I like most is the window. The sun shines in every morning and it feels very warm. The bathroom is a bit small, and the space saved is used in the room, so the room does not feel depressing. The location is a few hundred meters away from Otsu JR Station, and it takes 5 minutes to walk there. The hotel logo on the roof is very eye-catching and easy to find. The hotel has a free buffet breakfast, which is quite rich. After staying for three days, there are still some different things. The local specialty Omi beef is also provided, which is delicious. This small town has a small population and is very quiet. The attractions are not inferior to Kyoto. It is worth visiting. It's a pity that the cherry blossoms are not in bloom, otherwise it would be more beautiful. The hotel also provides facial masks, which are also very good."
"It was a great stay at this ryokan! The hotel is able to arrange a car to fetch you from the JR station. You can call them using a dedicated phone at the station which is used to contact the different ryokans. The car arrived in 10mins or so. The ride to the ryokan was also less than 10mins. The hotel also fetched us to the station on the last day of our stay.
The ryokan itself is homely and cozy. We were greeted by an english speaking staff who introduced us to the amenities of the ryokan. There was also a nice welcome tea and matcha chocolate. Our bags were brought to our room as well during this time.
The room is spacious and cozy. The hotel prepared 2 welcome biscuits in the room which was a nice personal touch. The room has a nice living room and a great view of Lake Biwa. Recommend to catch the sunrise over the lake! There are 2 normal beds as well as futon beds (need to set up yourself). Both are comfortable. The hotel also prepared pretty yukata for both female and male guests which you can wear during the stay. There are 4 different designs for ladies, and one design for the guys. You can request for different size if the one in the room doesn’t fit you. There is also a full length mirror and a mini dressing area at the side of the living room. It was fun dressing up in the yukata!
The toilet, basin, shower and hot tub areas are all separate. The toilet is a little small, but the basin and mirror area is very spacious. The shower area is quite small as well and the shower head is rather low so you need to hold the shower head if you wish to wash up while standing. There is a small stool given for you to sit down though. The hot tub area is semi-outdoor and you can see Lake Biwa. But it is quite small (only good for one person). It was too cold so we didn’t use the hot tub.
Instead, we booked the private onsen for 50mins. The private onsen has a private toilet and dressing area which is equipped with hairdryer, body lotion etc. There is a water dispenser as well if you need to hydrate yourself. The onsen area has a washing area, and the hot tub area is spacious for 2 person. There are privacy screens around the onsen area but there is a small gap to let in cold air for ventilation. Wish there is a good view from the private onsen but it was still enjoyable!
Dinner and breakfast was Kaiseki style, and the meals were one of the highlights for my husband and I. We really enjoyed the courses which are clean tasting yet wholesome, fresh and flavourful. It was such a sumptuous treat!
The ryokan also has a souvenir shop if you wish to buy anything back.
Overall, my husband and I really enjoyed the stay here and we agreed this was one of the main highlights of our 12 days trip in Japan. Highly recommend!"
"The hospitality at the hotel was exceptional! From the moment we arrived, the staff greeted us with warm smiles and a genuine willingness to assist. The attention to detail in service, from the personalized welcome to the thoughtful amenities in our room, made our stay truly memorable. It’s clear that the team is dedicated to creating a welcoming atmosphere, ensuring that every guest feels valued and comfortable. I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone seeking a delightful and accommodating experience!"
"It was very clean and well-cleaned. The living environment around the station is convenient, with a medium-sized supermarket, two Seven-Elevens, and a Starbucks right next door. You can do your laundry, and toothbrushes and towels are also provided.
Kyoto is a 10-minute subway ride away. It felt more convenient than many accommodations in Kyoto city. Otsu is full of nature and has a calm atmosphere.
I recommend it so much that I don't want to let too many people know about it (lol). The staff were all very kind, and it was fun to have the restaurant help me check in. I'm very grateful!
Very clean and well-maintained. The area around the station is super convenient—there’s a mid-sized supermarket and two 7-Elevens right next door, plus a Starbucks. Laundry is available, and they provide toothbrushes and plenty of towels.
It only takes 10 minutes by subway to reach Kyoto, and honestly, it felt even more convenient than many places inside Kyoto. Otsu has a peaceful, nature-filled atmosphere that’s quite refreshing.
Honestly, I almost don’t want to share this gem—worried the price might go up! Big thanks to the kind staff. Fun detail: even the restaurant team helped with check-"

Outstanding
GGuest UserI visited with my family on weekdays during the summer vacation. It was close to the beach of Maiko Omi and the supermarket was relatively close, so I didn't have any problems. 2 F Terrace barbecue facilities were also colored 々, and it was okay to use the tools I brought. The children seemed to be very enjoyable, such as karaoke, table tennis, and tagging in a large indoor, and there were two large baths and the efficiency was good. In addition, each room had a unit bath, a large dining room, and a kitchen, so I was able to spend a very comfortable time. After checking out, I enjoyed it at the nearby Lake Biwa Valley and then came home. I would like to use it again.
GGuest UserI was able to spend a relaxing time in a quiet environment. Also, the open-air bath in the sake barrel was the best. I had good memories of staying with a dog.
RRoger MichaelOk. First of all leave your expectations at home expecting hotel level service. Once you've done that if you want a cheap but clean place to stay this is it. This is a seinenkan - a facility for youth and youth-related organizations to conduct independent study and recreational activities, many of which have basic accommodation facilities but higher grade facilities than youth hostels. They are located all over Japan. I stayed in a tatami mat room on a floor with shared toilet facilities. The ground floor has a large communal bath - obviously separate for male and females. They have lights out at 11 p.m. and guests must return by the same time. There is a very modern cafe onsite serving cheap breakfasts (see photos) but the cafe closes by 6 p.m. There is a convenience store 10 minutes walk away so I suggest you buy snacks and beverages en route from JR Ishiyama station. For dinner, there is a family restaurant - good value and okay food - about 6 minutes walk away.
The seinenkan is located on a small island by a historic bridge. The views of the river inlet flowing into the main Lake Biwa is relaxing, lots of bird wildlife, and lots of rowers (the seinenkan is a water sports facility too). and the sunrise and sunset views are lovely.
The staff are very kind. It cost me ¥5,500 for one night and I will stay there again if I have the opportunity.
