"The room is small but well-equipped. There are all kinds of toiletries at the front desk. The self-service mode is very good. In addition, the manual with the worn-out middle road is exclusive. The customer service attitude is very good."
"Facilities: It has breakfast, which is especially important for those hiking the Kumano Kodo. The earliest bus to Kumano Kodokan, the closest stop to the hotel, departs at 6:47 AM. Breakfast starts at 6:30 AM, so you can leave right after eating without any delay.
Cleanliness: Clean and good! The shower facilities are clearly labeled with different types.
Environment: The hotel rooms offer breathtaking views, especially while waiting for the elevator. It perfectly captures the feeling of framing a view, a style often associated with both Chinese and Japanese culture.
Service: Excellent! Seriously, as you can see from the many pictures I've posted, it's truly exceptional. Coffee and tea are available on the first floor. I was so lucky to choose this hotel for my Kumano Kodo hike; it's close to a FamilyMart, across the railway is a Lawson, and next to Kiitanabe Station is a 7-Eleven."
"The shuttle bus from Ikidanabe JR Station was at around 2pm. If you missed it, you can only take a taxi there, which costs about 1700JP.
The beach behind the hotel is very beautiful, and you can see the sunset.
I booked a one-night stay with two meals. The dinner was pretty good, and the quality was higher than that of several hotels behind the Kumano Kodo!
There was also dandan noodles for supper in the evening. Personally, I feel that except for the inconvenient transportation, I am satisfied with the hotel in other aspects!
The shuttle bus was delivered to Ikidanabe Station at 10am in the morning. We felt it was a bit late, so we asked the front desk to call a taxi to the station.
Other areas are good!"
"A bit minimalistic (shared bathroom and restroom) but otherwise very friendly, clean, with standard set of amenities (TV, WiFi, refrigerator) for this type of hotels. If you are doing hiking and have to stay for a night, this place has almost unbeatable price. Highly recommend."
"The location is still very good, the room is too small... The space planning is very compact and there is everything that should be there. The price is really cheap, so the overall price is very high, it is a good choice for us to stay for one night. The scenery of Kumano Ancient Road is really good"
"It was my first experience of Japanese hot springs and I enjoyed it a lot.
First of all, I'd like to thank a male staff who met me during check-in. He welcomed me warmly, explained all the details of my stay and helped to carry my bag to the room. Unfortunately, the female personnel wasn't that much friendly the next day when I asked for some help with my luggage.
The rooms have a splendid view of a forest and a river, old style Japanese but with some modern facilities.
The meal aren't a traditional Ryokan type but are still quite enjoyable with sushi and wagyu beef as a starter. In general, I can say it's a mix of traditional Japanese and moredn western style hotel in one.
If you're lucky and avoid the days when the hotel is crowded you'd be able to enjoy the river view from the onsed in quiet. Unfortunately, the water in the outdoor wasn't as clear as I expected. But the rest was just amazing."
"It is very convenient to stay overnight on foot. Although it is a youth hostel, it is very quiet. The facilities of the homestay are very complete, and the public area of the rest area is very comfortable. It would be better if lunch boxes were provided. If the weather is bad, I definitely don’t want to go out for meals."
"Review of Hanayo Garden Hotel Shirahama, Japan
Located in Shirahama Town, Wakayama Prefecture, the hotel boasts a prime location nestled between the mountains and the sea, about an 8-10 minute walk from Shirahama Beach. The surroundings are tranquil.
Specializing in seaside hot spring experiences, the hotel offers both open-air and indoor hot spring baths, some of which face the Pacific Ocean, allowing you to soak while watching the sunset or waves. The slightly alkaline spring water is beneficial for relieving muscle aches and fatigue. The facilities are well-maintained, and basic toiletries are provided. The nighttime bathing atmosphere is breathtaking, with the sounds of the stars and waves adding to the soothing effect.
The guest rooms are available in Japanese, Western, and mixed Japanese/Western styles. Spacious (25-40 square meters), they feature mattresses with a perfect firmness, making them ideal for families or groups. Bathrooms have separate wet and dry areas, bathtubs, and toilets. High-floor ocean view rooms are recommended for unobstructed views.
Hanayo Garden Hotel is a secluded retreat in Shirahama Onsen, renowned for its ocean view hot springs, fresh seafood, and family-friendly amenities. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle and enjoy a slow-paced holiday of ”soaking in hot springs, watching the sea, and eating seafood”, this place is worth including in your list."
"Because I went to Kumano Kodo for a temporary night, I chose this hotel, not far from the train station, it is a family hotel, the price is cheap. The hotel area is very small, it belongs to the very mini type, the bathroom is relatively small, but it is still very clean, the refrigerator kettle Wi-Fi, there are also some."

Outstanding
GGuest UserMy husband and I stayed here after a very long and wet day of hiking on the Kumano Kodo. It was a perfect place to land, rest and recover. The room is small, but the bed was one of the most comfortable of our whole trip. Our bodies also very much appreciated the onsen tubs, which both of us had to ourselves (separate men and women’s). The meal was definitely one of the very vest that we had during our entire trip in Japan, and the hostess even did emergency laundry so that we would have some dry clothes for the next day. We are very grateful to both of them for such an exceptional stay.
AAChuaRight in front of the bus stop Kamaya-Mae I think..
Kind hosts who speaks a reasonable amount of English. Dinner smelled delicious but I didn’t go for it because I wanted to try the other restaurant in the area.
If I return to kawayu, I will come back here.
GGuest UserNot bad, although it is a bit old.
About15-20 minutes walk from the station
But the facilities are very complete, there are slippers, bathrobes, toothbrushes (but very hard to brush my teeth, bleeding) tissues, etc.
Breakfast is also included, but there are several options
Choose the most expensive to add money
Breakfast starts at 7 o'clock.
The time I went to the front desk was the uncle.
I don't know English, but communication is ok.
And give our room just to see the fireworks conference at night
Kkonoy mandalAmazing service from the moment we arrived to the date of our departure. Staff is very attentive. Food is amazing and presented well. Location is serene and a great change from the big cities. Rooms are perfect and just the type of Japanese village rooms and decor we were hoping for.
GGuest UserI had a such beautiful stay at Aizu ~ eating breakfast in the sun on the deck was bliss! Met loads of friendly travellers and the hosts are super kind. Thank you Aizu Guesthouse :))
