"Very comfortable, the hotel has a good view, the room facilities are very new, the bedding is dry and comfortable, the room has no smell, I have stayed in many hotels in Sri Lanka, more or less there is a smell, it is the kind of damp and strange smell, but this one does not, So we stayed for 3 days after returning from Lion Rock to slowly feel the beauty of Kandy again."
"Decent clean stay, and good value for the money. Room was small and tidy, clean bathroom, quite nice modern style overall with apparent concrete wall finish ( cool if you ask me and unexpected ).
Staff was friendly and helpful, only thing was that the room was direclty in front of the elevator and it was noisy. In the early morning there are monkeys on the balcony searching for food so better not leave the door open."
"The location is excellent, the villa is in a fairly expensive area on the hill, the only minus - it is hard to get to walk, a steep hill. The staff is very friendly and polite, everything showed, told, the owner was in touch. At the end, they even carried out before the bus stop and showed a great view from the roof of the house. There were no questions to the room too, light and hot water were, the only one was a weak WiFi directly in the room, but it was a tiny thing"
"The location and hospitality are the best!
I think the shower has hot water up to about 50°C.
There are international power outlets, one on each end of the bed.
There are no toothbrushes, but there is a refrigerator and hair dryer, so it's perfect.
The windows are a little dirty and whitish, and there is a unique smell, but you get used to both quickly.
However, be careful as the entrance is locked at 10pm. There is a call bell next to it, so you can press it and they will open it for you, but it depends on the time. Be careful about going out late at night."
"The hotel is on the top of the mountain in Kandy. The mountain road to go is very winding, but the scenery is beautiful. The hotel itself is more like a high-end homestay in China, with a very stylish decoration and a local atmosphere. The room is spacious, with a large floor-to-ceiling window for a panoramic view of the beautiful scenery, and the exquisite bathtub is also very good. What's more worth mentioning is that the staff is very enthusiastic, and all of them have smiles on their faces😊. The most memorable thing for me is that the lady at the front desk is super beautiful and loves to smile. The children especially like her."
"wonderful stay at Debom Rest! clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, offering beautiful views and a peaceful atmosphere.
staff friendly, attentive, and made sure we felt welcomed throughout our stay.
had dinner at hotel restaurant, avocado drink was awesome! food was another highlight – fresh, flavorful, and with a good variety of both local and international dishes. breakfast was ok only though.
overall will recommend for anyone visiting Kandy – we would definitely stay here again!"
"Nice hotel with a great view over the river. Some of the furniture in the rooms are a bit dated and could do with some DIY. The room lighting could be improved and the odour inside the washroom should be better managed.
Beds were comfy, rooms were very spacious and the facilities in the hotel were good. Food was tasty and had a wide variety."
"There are many hotels and B&Bs on this hilltop, so the view is naturally good; the walkway is a bit musty, but the room is ok; the breakfast buffet is ok; the seafood at the rooftop dinner is not good, the shrimp is frozen; the rich people go out to walk the elephants in the morning, and prepare fruits when checking out, so that you can feed the elephants if you encounter them, which is quite interesting"
"Staff were friendly, caring and helpful. Especially, Ashan, who was attentive and went out of his way to ensure that my stay was comfortable. Hotel room was clean and spacious. Fresh towels given each day and rooms cleaned daily. Room included the following amenities, free wifi, toiletries, safe, air conditioning, complementary bottled water. Hotel in a convenient location; 15 minutes from Kandy railway station. Nearby attractions include Kandy Lake (5 minutes -walking distance) and The temple of the sacred Tooth Relic (10 minutes -walking distance)"
"The hotel is located in a good area. Walking distance to Relic of tooth and some tasty restaurants.
Views from balcony in suite room also fabulous.
Drinks and service at the rooftop bar were great. Our waiter Nirmal was very friendly with impeccable service.
Our one complaint is that we had no wifi connection whatsoever in our room or balcony. Asked for this to be resolved four times but to no avail."

Amazing
EEnglish RoseMisty Hills Villa Kadugannawa boasts the most incredible view over local mountains, best enjoyed if you are taking a cooling dip in the (small, but perfectly positioned) infinity pool! My husband and I were very well looked after during our short stay. The hotel staff served lovely breakfasts, organised two dinners for us and booked a tuk tuk for a day trip to Kandy. They also surprised me with a beautiful little cake on my birthday and even sang to me! The only small points I would make is that the dinners are not actually cooked on site - and that the staff did not offer to clean or make up our bedroom during our 3 night stay. Nevertheless, much kindness and warmth was demonstrated towards us and we loved the rural position of the property.
2286184****The landscape is good, December is not the flood season with less water. The air is very fresh, but I was bitten by the water for the first time in my life and the blood flowed. The waiters at the hotel are very friendly and welcoming.
The facilities are really not good. There was no hot water in the bath for a few minutes, and there was no hot water later. The whole room has a small mirror on the bathroom sink. Toothbrush and toothpaste are not provided, and the hair dryer has to ask the hotel for it. Bottled water is not provided, there is a small bucket of drinking water in the room to drink. No quilt? There are two blankets found in the cabinet that will cover it.
The concept of ecological environmental protection can be understood, and the comfort level is definitely discounted. Finally, it is difficult to go to the hotel's mountain path. If you encounter the rainy season, there may be a landslide risk.
GGuest UserI cannot love this hotel more! Sweet and personal service, best demonstrating South Asian hospitality! The room was spacious, clean and well maintained! The crew was very professional and helped me with transportation and communication! They were so happy seeing me back every night, which made me feel so welcomed! The catering there is really good and I recommend the Sri Lankan breakfast - I cannot find rotti tastier than there’s!
I’ve been to so many hotels, and none has offered me such good hospitality before - the professionalism + the human touch! I really love them!
MMD JOBAYER HOSSAINMelheim Kandy Villas is a charming hillside retreat that blends comfort, nature, and warm hospitality beautifully. Nestled amidst lush greenery with sweeping views of the Kandy hills, it offers a peaceful escape from the bustle of the city while still being within a reasonable drive to key attractions.
The rooms are spacious, spotless, and thoughtfully designed, with large windows or balconies that let you soak in the serene surroundings. The beds are comfortable, and the overall ambiance feels homely yet refined. While the property is generally well-maintained, a few minor maintenance touches could make it even better.
One of the highlights is the service — the staff are genuinely friendly, attentive, and eager to make your stay memorable. The breakfast is hearty and flavorful, often featuring fresh local produce, and dining on the terrace with a view is a treat in itself
GGuest UserThe Good
The standout feature of The Coffee Bungalow is undoubtedly its staff, particularly Adrian, who went above and beyond to ensure our stay was enjoyable. Everyone we encountered was attentive and genuinely warm, making us feel well cared for. The food was another highlight—delicious and thoughtfully prepared. A particularly nice touch was when they packed us a complimentary to-go lunch for our train journey out of Kandy, which was a pleasant and unexpected gesture.
The Bad
The lack of air conditioning was a notable downside, especially given Kandy’s humidity. While the property has a charming colonial feel, the absence of a solid door between the bedroom and bathroom was an odd design choice. Although the toilet and shower do have louvered doors, privacy is somewhat compromised. Another issue was the challenging entry system—we found ourselves locked out one night, which was frustrating and inconvenient.
The Ugly
Unfortunately, the biggest drawback was the ant problem. While some level of bugs is to be expected in a tropical setting, the sheer number of ants, particularly in the bathroom but also in the bedroom, was hard to ignore. It definitely impacted our overall comfort.
Overall, The Coffee Bungalow has a lot of charm and some truly wonderful hospitality, but there are a few quirks and inconveniences that might not suit every traveler. If you’re prepared for a bit of rustic charm and can handle the lack of AC and privacy, the warm service and great food may make up for the downsides.

11590125****It's fate that I went to Sri Lanka for the second time. I went there in October last year. It rained heavily almost every day. It happened to rain heavily when I was in Kandy. I took shelter from the rain in front of this hotel. The clerk warmly invited me to rest inside and ordered ice cream. I actually booked this hotel for the first time. The location is great and it’s right by the lake.

GGuest Userhad pleasure of staying at this hotel, and I couldn't be more impressed with the level of service and hospitality we received. From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond to ensure our stay was comfortable and memorable.
The team was incredibly helpful in arranging transportation and suggesting places to visit. They recommended we attend the Tooth Relic Procession and suggested us to visit a waterfall, which turned out to be the most breathtaking waterfall I've ever seen. Their local knowledge truly enhanced our experience.
When our cab dropped us off in the mid , the hotel staff immediately came to pick us up in tuk-tuk.
The staff was consistently polite and accommodating, making us feel welcome and valued throughout our stay. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a place where the staff genuinely cares about making your stay special. Thank you for the experience!

TTraveling TanHotel Suisse carries a colonial charm that takes you back in time. The food is good, offering a fair range of choices. However, the dining experience was slightly marred by some worn napkins. The air conditioning in our room was a bit loud, but it didn't keep us from having a comfortable stay. I might look into other hotels in the area next time to experience something different.

GGuest UserWe enjoyed our stay at Hotel Ganthera and the staff were friendly however the room itself could have been improved. For example, there was distinct black marks on the walls and some mould in the bathroom but we understand the climate is humid (also some dead bugs). Bed area was clean and satisfactory and we slept well.
The front door is locked at night so beware if needing to leave early - staff are not attentive to this.
Whilst we did not use the pool area, the view was nice and pool looked good. Overall we enjoyed our stay but would probably not come back.

GGuest UserThe owners and employees at this hotel are so, so lovely.
Unfortunately their hotel is not. I almost feel catfished as many of the photos highlighted the bar and pool party atmosphere. This was not the case - the pool was a decent size but in the shade and I actually didn’t see anyone in it. The pool party drinking shots I highly suspect were perhaps not a genuine source.
The same goes for the bar which is massive and attended to by several lovely young, bored gentlemen as both times I popped up (once for dinner) I was the only patron. Again no party atmosphere or even people - which is a shame as it is a big venue.
Fortunately next door was another venue for some decent cocktails and music which saved the boredom somewhat.
The bedroom was a decent size with a small fridge (but didn’t work), the bathroom was small, felt dirty, no hand soap or soap for the shower (apart from leftover previous occupants - and that was gross).
The pressure was poor making showering difficult and there was plaster on the floor from some damage - not cleaned up.
The bed was massive and comfortable with air conditioning and a fan so sleep was good.
Finally, and to repeat, the staff were lovely. Very hospitable and the location is about a ten minute walk to the Sacred Tooth Temple and Kandy Lake. So great location.
Would I stay there again - no. Would I pop in to say hello to the owners and next door for a cocktails - possibly!
