Christchurch Botanic Gardens
SSatisfied guestLocated in the central city of Christchurch New Zealand, the botanical gardens were founded in 1863 with lots of trees and flowers.
Cathedral Square
旅旅の径Cathedral Square is located in the downtown area of Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand. It is the historical center of Christchurch and was once the main place for citizens to gather. It is now the transportation center of the city and the activity center for tourists (especially pedestrians). It is a must-visit place for visiting Christchurch.
The most vicissitudes. The Christchurch Cathedral (the square is named after it), which was built from 1864 to 1904, encountered two earthquakes during its construction. After its completion, it became a classic landmark of Christchurch with its elegant shape and 63-meter-high Gothic spire.
The 6.3-magnitude earthquake in February 2011 caused serious damage to Christchurch. The spire of the cathedral collapsed, half of the tower remained, and only the nave was completely preserved. The damaged building has not been repaired yet and is tightly surrounded by cold scaffolding.
The most eye-catching. In the center of the square, there is a memorial statue of John Robert Cordley, the founder of the Canterbury region where Christchurch is located.
The most literary. On one side of the square, there is a giant chessboard, with red/black chess pieces 50-80 cm high. Each piece looks very heavy and difficult to move (two masters were concentrating on playing chess and learning chess skills. The author was not able to experience the weight of the chess pieces in person, which was a pity).
The coolest. In 2001, in order to welcome the arrival of the millennium and celebrate the 150th anniversary of the establishment of Christchurch and Canterbury, the "Millennium Holy Grail" sculpture was placed in the square. The 18-meter-high sculpture is in the shape of a slender cone, with abstract shape, concrete decoration, hollow outer circle, silver-gray outer wall and azure inner core. Between the layers, the leaves of 8 native plants such as the leaves of New Zealand's national flower-silver fern, are intertwined and stretched upward, symbolizing vitality and prosperity.
The most convenient. The retro tram has a station on one side of the square, which has become a beautiful landscape. The retro tram with a 2.6-kilometer operating route and 17 stops can easily reach the main attractions in the city.

International Antarctic Centre
AAnonymous UserOverall it was pretty good. I followed the whole process. I first sat in something similar to an armored vehicle, which was a little thrilling. Then it was all indoors, and I watched the staff feed penguins and read some Antarctic stories.
TranzAlpine: Scenic Train Christchurch - Greymouth
999mmIt turns out that the scenery is not as good as the online ones, and the scenery on the way to New Zealand is actually not worse than this. In short, it's okay. It was quite quiet when I went out. When I returned, I came up with a Chinese tour group. It was noisy for a long time, so that the train experience was discounted.
Canterbury Museum
旅旅の径When you come to Christchurch for tourism, you should visit the Canterbury Museum. Both its appearance and content are worth seeing.
Appearance. The museum is located in the city center, next to the botanical garden. The gray-based and white-framed building is both elegant and dazzling. In front of the museum is a statue of William Rolleston, an outstanding politician and leader in the Canterbury region, with a lifelike figure.
Content. Compared with our country, the museum is medium-sized. But the rich and diverse exhibits fully demonstrate the unique Maori culture and history of New Zealand, the development of New Zealand's nature and colonial period, and the exploration and cognition of human beings in Antarctica, which can give you a deeper understanding of New Zealand's history and culture.
Christchurch
SSwC_TWThe dusk in New Zealand has a particularly charming purple color, which makes you feel like you are abroad.
It's very comfortable to walk in the city center. The roads are spacious, there are not many people, there are few cars, and the scenery is beautiful everywhere.
Christchurch Transitional Cathedral
多多多We stood there, speechless, watching the earthquake damage to the once-stunning old cathedral. The only life to see is the many birds perched on the remains of this once proud prayer site, one of the locals telling us it was being rebuilt and the damaged clock was once again sent to British manufacturing companies for repairs, which is good news for the cathedral.
The Arts Centre
1137***66This museum is the largest museum in the world (applied arts, decorative arts and design arts). It has a huge collection of jewelry, furniture, costumes, ceramics, locks, cameras, etc. It also has many things from different historical periods and different parts of the world. This place is amazing, it's free, don't miss it! It should undoubtedly be included in your travel itinerary, especially due to the proximity to several other tourist attractions and other museums.
