The 7 of us had a lovely stay at the hotel, it is a historic hotel so not really many mod cons like you'd have at a city motel, like air con, sky tv and the modern room services, but the staff were amazing and they were very short staffed, and most staff were on duty from breaky to close. The food was to die for, I think over the 4 days we tried at least 1 of everything and it was all 10/10 A free continental breakfast is available to guest, and each morning there were delicious surprises for the guests, which had you guessing each day what it would be, and hoping for donuts The cabins were kept very nice, clean, warm and towels were serviced daily, a few things had been removed from the room but on request we were given replacements, such as fan (it was 24c), a hand basin plug and a missing tv remote, each cabin had its on spa pool which we had on cold as it was refreshing, coffee/tea were available also but no milk. On the grounds there is a camping ground, tennis course (rackets available) , 3 thermal spring pools, a 9 hole golf course (clubs available to hire) a bar area with a cool jukebox, outdoor cafe/restaurant area, indoor restaurant and internally there were lots of comfy rest areas to sit and chill or play chess/drafts or read and books were also available. I'd recommend this place to all, it was def a great venue for our group to spnd new year, we would go back for sure, and the staff made it the experience it was, thank you each and everyone of you
The description the owners have on their website is honest and to the point - this is an older hotel and showing her age. I was upgraded to a double from a single room and appreciated the extra space. The room was clean and tidy with an original Art Deco tiled bathroom. Slept well - only complaint would be the patchy wifi.
Great motel. Manger was very obliging and helpful. Room was clean and tidy. Would stay again. Beds clean and comfortable. No room service but that was OK. We only stayed 2 nights. Pleased with everything and not that far to see my family. Air con came in handy.
If you are looking for a relaxed place to stay, then consider the Horse and Jockey. There are an array of room options, shared bathrooms or ensuites, which were basic but very clean. Breakfast is your typical continental and the only negative is to be aware that there is music playing every night. However on Friday and Saturday nights, we read that they offer reduced rates and a later check out as compensation. There is also free parking and the staff were friendly and helpful.
We enjoyed the comfortable accommodations and idyllic setting, overlooking a stunning, green valley dotted with lowing cows. Our hosts, Shona and David, were warm and welcoming (despite our rather late-evening arrival) and were very kind and accommodating during our stay. Kauri Lodge is located in an excellent central location for visiting the Waitomo Caves, Rotorua, and Lake Taupo, among other interesting destinations. We recommend Kauri Lodge for anyone looking for a homey, rustic, farm stay experience. Thank you, Shona and David!
My wife and I used to come to the Opal Hot Springs way back in the late 70's. Then it was one of the best destinations around. Today, it's welcoming management and staff along with the friendly locals, still make it a good destination. The countries economic situation must be having an effect on how much money is available to be spent here, it is crying out for modernisation and upgrading of the pool complex. Nothing beats making friends in a small cosy camp/motel situation and this weeknd was no exception, for that alone we will be coming back. Thanks guys for a quiet nights sleep after a good soak in a safe and well loved establishment.
