The receptionist were helpful, the staff are all nice and helpful, the rooms are neat, the environment was so serene and friendly. Would definitely visit again.! The fact that it was close to the airport also made it easily accessible. Zubedya was also nice to us, look for her when next you go!!!

My Wife and I stayed two nights at the Madinat Al Bahr on our recent trip to Tanzania. The hotel is an awesome place to stay when visiting Zanzibar City. The rooms are opulent and clean, the decor of the common areas is awesome, the beds are extremely comfortable and the furniture in the room is very nice. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The food at the restaurants offered a lot of choice. The spa treatments were very relaxing, especially after the long haul flights from the USA. The pool is very inviting and nice. Two members of the staff were especially great and took awesome care of us while we were there... Akshit Nawani (Front Office Manager) and Sayed Aly (Public and Guest Relations Manager). As our flight to Zanzibar City was delayed, Akshit was very responsive to our changing arrival schedule so as to ensure that there was a hotel car and staff to pick us up from the airport as soon as we arrived. The two of them ensured that we were very well taken care of. Thank you Akshit and Sayed for making our stay top notch and comfortable.

- Amazing building and gardens overlooking the sea (west coast), you can’t believe you’re staying somewhere so beautiful for that price. Unbelievable sunsets! - Staff are so friendly - particularly Richard (front of house), Catherine the chef, and Joel the Masai guard - Service is brilliant - they will take in your bags for you and do all they can to help you - We stayed one night after a late flight from the mainland as it was close to the airport - great location and meant we didn’t need to drive into Stone Town which is not fun to drive in - Free and secure parking - WiFi - Incredible breakfast which is included (!) - So cheap for the level of service you get - We liked it so much that we decided to come here for dinner on our last day in Zanzibar which was delicious - The car we had rented broke down outside the gates, blocking the driveway. About six staff members all came to help us push the car up the hill and out of the way, which was so kind. The manager also called our car rental company for us to ask them to come and fix our car. While we waited, they gave us a welcome juice drink and took in our bags. They are amazing. Only cons are that the bathrooms are a bit tired and could do with updating - though for the price you wouldn’t expect much better! There’s also no air con but I didn’t get too hot.

I booked online with ************ and when I went to check in I was told the room wasn't available but they could offer me another one in another property for the same price. I had to drag my luggage there alone through the scorching heat, only to be led into a completely dilapidated house. Unfortunately, very intense artificial fragrances could not cover up the smell of mold. The room itself was musty, very small, shabbily furnished, with a shower cubicle right in the room next to the bed. There was no water coming out of the shower and the whole impression was just depressing. Incidentally, the employee was greeted there by some angry guests who complained, for example, about the running water not working/the shower not working, which the employee dismissed with sarcasm. Since this room had absolutely nothing in common with the fancy photos of Hiliki House, I rejected it, which was apparently met with understanding. I was told that bookings made via ************ are generally not considered binding, especially not if ”payment on site” was chosen as the payment method, not even if the booking is guaranteed with a credit card and cannot be canceled - so it's my own fault. But the best thing - even though I had rejected the alternative accommodation, the hotel apparently tried twice later to debit money from my credit card.
