The hotel is mediocre at best. I would say it's probably a 2 1/2 star hotel. It's tolerable, but not good. They have valet parking (no self parking) which was $50/night for me. Ridiculous. Do NOT park here. The front of the hotel has several empty 15 min spaces that you can use to park, unload, check-in and then drive 1/2 a block to much cheaper and easier parking. In fact, directly behind the hotel is a parking structure that is better. The Room The Good: I had an ocean view room. I was nice because where it was located you could actually see the beach/ocean. The shower was hot and strong. The AC worked well. The Bad: Outdated. Everything in the room felt like it came from a garage sale. Not really very nice, nothing really matched. Smelly. The room smelled from the first day to my last day. Smelled like swamp gas all the time. Noisy. The walls seem to be paper thin. I was often woken up by the neighbors. The door had a 1/4 inch gap all around the frame. I could almost look into the hallway through the door. So everyone going through the hallway making noise was as bad as if I had the door was opened. Staff. The front desk staff wasn't very helpful. Not welcoming at all. Not to the point of being rude, but almost. Very unfriendly and unaccommodating. Bottom line: I would not stay here again nor would I recommend to someone to stay here. I heard good things about the Shore Hotel, and would probably stay there next time.

Breakfast is average, simple cold juice, fruit, ham slices, bread, potato chips, etc. However, drinks, drinks and snacks are free from the afternoon to the evening of 8 years. It is very warm.

1. We bought this hotel at that time and it was clear that parking was free and then there was no breakfast. Later we checked in that night and told us to pay $ 17. It was the breakfast fee, parking fee, wifi fee. I have to pay this money, I also find it very funny, and then the so-called breakfast is to give you a few cakes and drinks, nothing else. I would not recommend Hotel Carmel. I am frustrated with this place because I wanted to like Hotel Carmel, it's quaint and had character but the customer service was the worst I've received, hope to never experience again. I paid third party, arrived May 14-15 and took a loong time to check in, which is fine, I wasn't in a rush, but it was strange that I had to fill everything once more, provide my card and ID (standard). Once in the room, concierge came up and told me he had to swiped my card and charge me since he had not (despite having paid third party which had already been reiterated and confirmed downstairs). Figured it was for deposit. Wrong, charged for much more than I had already paid for the night, which was substantial. Then went downstairs and showed the transaction, another concierge assisted, reversed the transaction but took a looong time, guys I'm not kidding you, and I am patient. Told me the valet for $38 (it said $25 valet on my email receipt with the 3rd party but oh well) and resort fee will be waived once I check out. The next morning I mention it to the lady and she was oblivious, said it was already charged, she wasn't aware and I would need to speak to the the concierge, manager that night. I asked for a written email since I didn't want to go through the hassle a third time when I called, she did not want to, although it's a standard method of documentation amongst customer and company. Between the lack of communication, professionalism, training, documentation, process, it's a zero star.

It is a great hotel at great location, with very nice and professional staff, however the valet parking was very high and part of the hotel is under construction and also one elevator was not working also there is no bar or restaurants is available at the hotel but there are lot of options is available close by.

The hotel is very beautiful, the location is excellent, walk to the beach for two minutes, there are seafood restaurants on the side

A flawless experience from start to finish, Casa Del Mar made our experience wonderful. We could stay there forever! The staff were amazingly helpful and friendly and the AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts benefits were superb, too. Our room looked out directly onto the beautiful beach & boardwalk, and the jacuzzi tub was an amazing added bonus! The outdoor pool & hot tub were amazing, and just perfect to watch the beautiful west-coast sunsets. We also enjoyed the bar and a nice breakfast overlooking the ocean in the morning, and the free bike rental service to bike to Venice Beach. The entire experience was brilliant, do not hesitate to stay at this amazing hotel and make sure you make time in your schedule to enjoy all the amenities on offer.

The prices of hotels in this area are pretty competitive,so don’t don’t be fooled by the shore hotel’s rates! The hotel is nice, in a prime location, and each and every staff member was kind and extremely helpful. We met Ramon on the first night of our stay and he and the rest of the staff have been nothing but personable, helpful and attentive. To top it all off, the hotel food is actually better than some of the much more expensive restaurants in the area. Moral of the story: stay at the shore hotel, you won’t be disappointed!

Although the hotel is a bit old, it is well maintained and clean. The toiletries are Diptyque, and the toilet paper is tied with a small ribbon~ The service is very good. When I arrived at the airport, I found that I forgot my passport at the hotel. They helped me find it very efficiently and I didn't miss the flight. They also specifically said that I didn't need to tip, which is what they should do. Disadvantages: The balcony is so small that I can't stretch my legs when sitting on the chair.
