This hotel is located just outside O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg. While you will need a taxi, rental car, or shuttle to reach the hotel, the journey is well worth it. There are no nearby dining facilities within walking distance, but the hotel boasts an on-site Irish pub that serves excellent food. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the breakfast is outstanding. The hotel is fully gated with security measures in place, providing peace of mind during your stay in Johannesburg.
OK, so let's start with the 'not-so-nice stuff'. Look, it is what it is. It's a 3-star (at best), hotel that was converted from apartments into a 'suite' experience hotel. It's cheap as chips, so with that in mind you're obviously not going to expect anything flash. The towels, while clean, could certainly do with being replaced. Overall, a fresh coat of paint would not hurt and the kettle was abysmal - we actually ordered our own kettle from 60/60 - the one in the room had not been descaled in...well, ever. It's very basic accommodation, the telephone in the room didn't work and the extractor above the stove was diabolical. Now, for the good stuff. The staff are AMAZING. So friendly and super helpful, check-in was breezy and even though we arrived a full 2 hours early, we hardly had to wait for our room to be ready. Aside from what I already mentioned, the room itself was SPOTLESS and that made up for the 'niggly' bits. The location is great, just a few minutes from the airport and close to the areas we had business in. Honestly, for what one pays for this place, there are no complaints. You can order from 60/60/ Uber Eats/Mr Delivery and there is a restaurant on site - although we didn't order from them, we left early and came back fairly late so it was just simpler to order in - and they delivered to the room. So all in, if you're not in Jozi for a holiday, then this place is kind of ideal. Internet was fast enough and complimentary and as we literally only used it as a base for our dealings in the big city, it was more than adequate.
The breakfast is very good, suitable for children, location close to the airport, parking lot. Just the day, Cai Guoqing and his children also lived in this hotel.
Ideal location if traveling elsewhere as it is really close to the airport. Professional staff, clean and comfortable rooms with all the amenities. I will definitely stay here again.
We stayed in a Superior King Room for 4 nights while attending a conference at Emperors Palace. Breakfast was good, but we didn't eat at the restuarant at night as the restuarants at Emperor Palace look way more appealing. The room is very small, and as a couple sharing, we were constantly tripping over each other. The toilet cubicle is particularly small, and larger people will probably not be able to close the door. Nobody oftered to help with our luggage, and there was no information booklet in the room which would have been nice to perhaps explain a bit more of the offerings at Emperors Palace. The staff were fine, not overly friendly or rude, but also did not go out of their way for anything. The chef at breakfast was very nice. We made use of the gym which had decent enough treadmills - the suburb of Kempton Park is very industrial, so the area is not great, but I suppose it serves it purpose of being close to OR Tambo Airport. On that note, the shuttle service to the airport works well. For the price, I have stayed at much better establishments, but they obviously have monopoly on location for conferences and proximity to the airport.
My stay at the lodge was very pleasant. After many hours of flying, the amenities are sufficient to relax and have a rest before connecting flights or before your next move. Staff at reception were lovely, friendly and helpful. Andrew who is part of staff in charge of pick-up and drop-off, waited quite a while for me the collect baggage and was extremely patient and understanding. I’d highly recommend staying there.
The staff were efficient and cheerful. What more could you ask for? We got the shuttle booked when we checked in, the driver was 15 minutes early. The restaurant servers were helpful and quick. The dinner menu options were a good variety, and the hot breakfast was the best.
The hotel is very close to the airport, very convenient and safe. It is also very convenient to eat nearby. Especially convenient, the hotel also has a pick-up service, about five or six minutes to the airport.
Celeste and Peter were the most kindest and unbelievably accommodating hosts I have met to date. From the moment i arrived to the day I left, they showed so much care as to my well being. The Breakfast they served was fit for a King and Queen. I just loved their love and care they shoed. The room I stayed in was spectacularly comfortable and had everything in it to make life so very much relaxing, especially after a hard days work. Even the Shower and bathroom had more than the usual soap that a hotel would normally provide. There was a bathing scrunchy, Shampoo, fragrant bathing and shower gel and just so much more. Every morning, Peter or Celeste would get up early and make sure that the Coffee (specially brewed by them) was ready for me. Seriously, I have never experienced this type of hospitality in all of my travel, whether in South Africa, China, America, Central Africa, and every other place I have been to. Do you know that they even waited up for me when I arrived at 01h00am the one morning because I had been in meetings right into the night - Wow, that was altogether amazing. A very Special thank you to Celeste and Peter from the bottom of my heart. Shane C Bryant
