Wow, what an unusual place Clovelly is, ive heard so much about it, me and my mate visite. suited me as very quirky. I dont think theres any other place on earth like this. sadly the weather was dreadful, but still explored up the very steep village cobble stones. SO the Red Lion, we were greeted by a very smiley young lady on reception, (didnt get her name) our room was very clean warm and comfortable. Had a lovely evening meal, superb fish and chips in the snug bar by the fire. Very friendly locals, good ales too. Rosie was at the point of our first visit in the bar on arrival, she was very helpful and, knowlegeable about the area and a great bar maid too. A great night sleep was had. Breakfast was fantastic with a vast assortment to choose from. Our full english was served by the lovely Rosie whom here now i cant praise her enough for her positive and attentive attitude. She was a DIAMOND. Rosie if your reading this a BIG THANK YOU, you made our stay all worth the while, and with that we will return and tell others about the Red Lion. This young lady will go far in life, and the staff there should be honoured to have her in their team. may she go far. Thank You Rosie, God Bless.

I am recently back from my 3rd visit & stay and your whole team were truly outstanding in every way. My first visit to Clovelly was from 15th - 17th November 2023 and I so enjoyed the real privilege of staying at The Red Lion for 2 nights. I came for a further 2 nights 13th - 15th Feb 2023 for a break and most recently I stayed again for another 2 nights from 7th - 9th November 2024. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the fabulous team spirit of everyone from Jo who again met me on arrival at reception, all the restaurant, bar and house staff again set the highest stands of charm and efficiency with truly delicious food. On every visit Richard Gibbs the General Manager, was superbly and seemingly effortlessly efficient and very endearing. I have already booked to go back again in February 2025!

Beautifully situated on the Clovelly harbour. Thoughtfully presented. Most rooms have a sea or harbour view. Food was very good. Service was very good. Clovelly itself was very quiet as it was out of season. This hotel is lovely and cosy. I thought it was priced very fairly; mid priced but with attributes above says good value to me! We will definitely come back.

Whilst visiting clovelly. We reached the bottom & decided to stop & have some food. My partner had the half fish & chips & I just had a portion of chips. It was expensive for the size of the portions. We sat outside to eat as there seemed to be more flies inside than out. It has a lovely view & this is how we noticed the water fall.

We have stayed many times and I feel I must leave a review. The hotel is wonderful fabulously placed on the seafront. Beautifully decorated and the food is wonderful and local we have just had the best lobster ever. The staff are so helpful bending over backwards to help and I must mention Jo she always makes us so welcome just marvellous. All I can say my wife and I always come away thinking our batteries have been recharged. Please don’t change you are all great . Angus McPherson.

The Red Lion was exactly what we wanted it to be for a few nights away to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The "superior" room lived up to expectations, over looking the harbour, and with easy chairs to enjoy the view from the comfort of our room, including a fabulous sunrise. The room was clean and had everything we needed. The shower room was perhaps on the small side, for the price of the room. We ate in both the Snug and the main restaurant, with each offering something quite different to the other. Good selection of drinks on tap in the bar. The kitchen was very accomodating with dietary requests, with one of us needing gluten free which they fulfilled without any issues. Yes, the restaurant is pricey, but the food was delicious and well thoughtout, using veg from their own gardens. Breakfasts were excellent, with a great cooked breakfast for vegetarians, certainly not just an after-thought as it is in many places.

If you want poorly cooked burnt pizzas, over the top priced lobster, expensive beers, lousy service and want to see the inherited estate owner taking his skinny dip while your being breakfast by headless chicken faulty towers manager and a " no bovvered receptionist. This is the place for you. I believe its on youtube for one of the worst places to visit. Yes the views are breath taking. You pay to enter, pay to park, pay OTT for drinks and food. Most of the local residents have been forced to move by increasing there rent. Nope not the same.
