From the beginning, the Cellars-Hohenort went above and beyond for us. The staff, management and property are exceptional. Nestled at the base of Table Mountain, this property offered a quite reprieve from the hustle and bustle of Cape Town. Breakfast was delicious with a variety of dishes being offered and a continental spread available for starters. We will definitely come back and stay at this lovely hotel!

I had Birthday Morning Tea at Cellars on a Sunday morning, as they only do Afternoon / High tea at the weekends and it was Divine. Beautiful setting, great vegetarian food choices, wine on arrival, tea with every course or coffee and really helpful and friendly staff. The food was delicious and it was a perfect Birthday outing.

Do not miss this oasis in the middle of Constantia wine land just a half hour from Capetown. The gardens are like a botanic garden, many walkways thru beautifully landscaped areas. Two large pools are available for relaxation. The Conservatory restaurant offered delicious breakfasts and a wide selection for dinner…all in a garden atmosphere. Free Shuttles are provided to the waterfront, local shopping center, & Kirstenbosch Gardens.

Overall, the hotel grounds were beautiful, and the upgraded room was large, comfortable, and well-appointed. The toiletries were a nice touch and added to the overall comfort of the stay. The massage at the spa was good; however, the spa facilities themselves felt somewhat dated. The hotel’s main restaurant, The Conservatory, was beautifully decorated and offered stunning views of the trees. Unfortunately, both the service and food quality fell short of expectations. The servers’ knowledge of the menu—particularly when dealing with dietary restrictions—was very limited. The meal itself was not great, and much of it was left uneaten. Breakfast was also disappointing, with limited options and a lack of quality or variety. Again, there were few gluten free and dairy free choices and I was even served vegan yoghurt that was past its expiry date. Despite having emailed the hotel several weeks in advance to inform them of strict dietary restrictions—and receiving confirmation that the catering team would be well-prepared—it was clear that this information had not been communicated or acted upon. There was no evidence of preparation at either dinner or breakfast, and no suitable alternatives were readily available. When I shared this feedback with the hotel team, they were very apologetic, and the hotel manager received the feedback graciously, assuring me that it would be used to make improvements in the future. I appreciated the professionalism and sincerity of their response. However, while that is commendable, my experience on this occasion was still disappointing. At a five-star property, excellence should be consistent—not something to strive for “next time.” While the accommodation and grounds were attractive and comfortable, the overall experience did not meet five-star standards. Certain areas of the hotel, particularly the gym, appeared tired and in need of modernisation, with newer equipment recommended. Overall rating: 6/10 Unfortunately, the experience fell well short of international five-star expectations.
