Holiday Inn Calais - Coquelles

The room is big and clean. And employees are nice

Nice room, comfortable bed, a good meal in the evening and again a good range with breakfast in the morning. It was very easy to get to having gone through on Le Shuttle. Recommend this for an overnight stay before / after crossing the channel.

The hotel is generally good. Close to Le Shuttle and Calais whilst located in the countryside. We have stayed here a number of times and found things to be ok. Rooms are quite good, clean, comfortable and overnight prices fair. The hotel has a sense of being spacious and bright. HOWEVER - there is something very wrong with either staffing levels or staff training. We were the only guests checking in at the time - it was 4pm - and stood at the reception desk completely ignored for 15 minutes while the male receptionist was on the phone dealing with 'something'. No acknowledgement or apology just totally ignored. Once served, check in took I minute. We booked the restaurant for dinner at 7pm & arrived on time, shown to our table and given menus. Once again we were - as we observed other guests similar - just left sitting. No offer of a drink, bread or anything else. After 40 minutes we decided to leave and chance dinner somewhere in the town. When we stood up to leave the waitress came over to take our order. As it was now 7.40 we decided to stay. Drinks arrived 5 minutes later and the food at 8pm. The food was OK but nothing special. Once again there is either a staff training issue or simply not enough staff. Sadly it wouldn't take much to make this hotel better. The hotel manager really does need to take a step back and look at how standards are not great. A sign in reception says the hotel scored 7 out of 10 on their system and they strive to improve. On our experience their score is in reverse.
