I recently spent one night at the family-run Gougane Barra Hotel and would highly recommend it. The location is undoubtedly one of the most magical Irish settings you could wish for: on the banks of a lake encircled by mountains and with St Finbarr's Oratory within stepping distance. The staff at Gougane Barra Hotel are all friendly and can't do enough to help. The food, freshly prepared by the hotel owner, is of a very high standard and equivalent to eating in a fine dining establishment in a city centre. Both our 3-course evening meal and breakfast were delicious. The rooms are large and comfortable, and ours had a lake view, which made it even more special. Quiet seating areas around the hotel allow you to relax, take in the surroundings, and enjoy a Guinness from the cute hotel bar. You can walk from the hotel or drive (5 mins) to Gougane Barra Forest Park, one of the most enchanting forests I have ever been to (and I have been to a lot)! Think waterfalls, pine tree trails, wooden bridges, and boardwalks, and you will get the idea. So, if you are looking for a place to stay in Cork that is an enclave of tranquillity and Irish hospitality, you will love Gougane Barra.
