Stunning grounds but everything else so disappointing. A poor welcome on arrival. No one on reception. My husband went to find someone. But then we had to wait whilst she carried a table to another room before seeing to us. The staff need some training on customer service. We like a nice warm friendly welcome but we didnt feel that. The grounds and building are stunning but this doesnt continue Into the rooms. Our room was not good. Stained carpet, tired and tatty. Our bathroom was gross... mould (could get rid of that so easily!) Flaking paint, broken loo roll holder, big chip out of the loo cistern. Things that could easily be put right. Service was ok but not great at dinner, and very limited option... we were told there was no steak left which is poor planning so only a (very small) plaice for me and pork for my husband. We ordered a side of seasonal veg which was literally just kale (or some sort of greens) which was already on our plate with our dishes anyway but the waitress didnt say anything... we were expecting something other than more of what we already had! The food at dinner was ok but breakfast was terrible. Only a buffet option. The worst tough, bland, cheap quality sausages, no pastries and cook youself toast. Awful. On checkout i mentioned the poor state of the bathroom but the receptionist didnt seem bothered and i feel my sensitively delivered constructive critisism fell on deaf ears. So to sum up... ten out of ten for the ground staff/ gardeners... front of house team need to be much more 'on it' and friendly... nothing should be too much trouble, the bar needs better staffing as the staff were hardly in there, the chef needs to forward plan and order better... breakfast needs a total rethink and those sausages need to be discontinued, maintainence and housekeeping need to deep clean the rooms, carpets, bathrooms... but the bedding was beautifully clean. Such a shame as all this is so easy to put right. Training needed.
