The Westin St. John Resort Villas

We have been owners at The Westin St. John for many years and visit every summer. We absolutely love it! The staff is friendly and helpful. The resort is beautiful and the location is perfect. After utilizing every ferry service available, we now exclusively use the Westin ferry service from the St. Thomas airport. It’s so nice to check into your room at the airport, arrive on the resort pier where you receive a fruity beverage, your room keys, and have your luggage taken to your room. It may cost a bit more, but you can’t beat the convenience. The ferry doesn’t run every hour- but just relax and have a drink at the Red Hook dock while you wait. Depending upon when you arrive, your room may not be available (4:00 check in). We always bring swimsuits in our carry-on luggage so we can hang out by the pool or beach while we eat a delicious hamburger and wait for our room. We have stayed in all areas of the resort- some are more updated and convenient to the resort amenities, but all are nice. Do your research prior to booking. The resort restaurants are good- not fine dining but great when you want a quick bite. We have taken most of the excursions from the Westin with Cruz Bay Watersports. They leave from the Westin dock and are professionally done, and visit incredible places. When our family is with us we typically hire a private captain. There is a small market onsite and a larger grocery store within walking distance. There is also a car rental service onsite. Taxi service is easy into town and to the beaches if you don’t have a car and don’t want to drive on the “wrong” side of the road. Cruz Bay is small and parking is at a premium, but there are always paid lots available where there is space. St. John has the most incredible beaches and excellent restaurants. We typically make dinner reservations 30 days out before arriving on the island. The people are friendly and welcoming. I see some negative comments on this site about the resort and St. John in general, but remember that St. John is an island. Resources are not always convenient and easily accessible. This makes St. John an expensive and sometimes inconvenient place to visit- it just is….But it is the most beautiful place and well worth a visit.

When we arrived at the resort we were pleased with the size and overall cleanliness of the room that we requested. We had a 2 bed / 3 bath townhouse style villa with a full kitchen. Not long after arrival, we realized that the two upstairs bathrooms had no hot water. When we called to report it, a technician came within 30 minutes to look into the problem. It was determined that it could not be fixed that evening, so they promised to return the next day to make the repair. The next day came and went and we still had not hot water in 2 of the 3 showers. My wife called the desk again and they offered to move us to another villa. Honestly, this is where the trip really went off the rails for me. Our new room was MUCH less than what we paid for, the size was not remotely comparable, nor was the downgrade from a full kitchen to a kitchenette. It truly is difficult to cook for 5 adults with that setup. The property there was wonderfully landscaped and the views are hard to beat. Overall the staff members were really nice and I believe that they tried to help in the best way that they could. The shops had all the little things that one might forget to bring on a trip and it was all reasonably priced. The food and drink choices were also really nice. Would I go back? No but only because of the downgrade in room that we received.

The pool was excellent. We liked the easy beach access as well, but the beach in front of the hotel is not nearly the best on the island.

Loved the Westin. Huge pool, easy parking. Room was clean and large. Would stay here again. It is a huge property. We were very close to the pool and the beach. The hotel is close to Cruz Bay but it’s not really walkable. It’s not that far but it’s across a big hill.

We are so thankful to the Westin for helping us settle after two nights in a powerless VRBO. The staff could not have been nicer, and the entire property was first-class. We will be back there! The rooms were perfect and clean. The entire staff should be commended for working tirelessly and then going home to no power!

We love the Westin St. John Resort Villas. We can't say enough regarding how much we loved this resort. My husband is a long-time Marriott member and this will always be one of our favorite most memorable resorts. We were here for a wedding and everything was lovely. The ocean swimming area, the no cost paddle boards, and other amenities. Oh my and the most amazing pool. A special acknowledgement and Thank You to "Lauren" who had only been on the job four days at Lemongrass restaurant. We didn't plan on staying but we met Lauren at the outdoor bar and she was wonderful. We had no idea that she had just started there until later in our time together. Lauren encouraged us to stay and shared the special with us which was swordfish with shrimp. We really did not plan to stay for dinner but we are so grateful to Lauren that we did. We shared a bottle of wine and even tried the pineapple infused tequila. Lauren was professional, attentive and personable and thanks to her we enjoyed an exceptional unplanned meal on our last night in this amazing resort. We hope to be back with our entire family. So the resort is beautiful. The grounds are so clean and well cared for. All the staff we engaged with were very friendly and helpful. The many different animals are great to see as well. The villas are beautiful we stayed in a two bedroom villa and it was very nice. The beds were comfortable the pillows were great no stiff necks. The snorkel restaurant was good. We heard lots of complaints about the lemongrass restaurant so we didn’t bother to eat there. The grounds are large but there are golf carts all around to take you were you want to go. You are always free to walk also to get those steps in. We stayed at the resort the first day and then every other day we went out to check out the nice beaches St. John has to offer.

We arrived at 1, but at checkin they told us they could promise nothing until 4 pm. We did not have access to our luggage so had to wander around in the heat with our travel clothes. Came back at 3:45 to check if room was ready, and they rudely told us it's not 4, so why are you asking. Came back at 4:15, and they told us our room still wasn't ready, and they would call us and let us know when it was, so more roaming around in the heat in hot clothes, until they finally called us at 5:30. Not the best start. That said, the room and the views were beautiful. I couple of things didn't work in the room (the coffee maker, the phone), and one day water wasn't there for a few hours, but those things were all fixed. The best service in the resort is the golf carts... the drivers were friendly and accommodating. We also received good service at the water sports. However, the food at Snorkels was overpriced and mediocre, as was the service, they definitely need to work on their food and service especially for such a nice resort. Also, the ferry transportation provided from the airport is way overpriced, and the timings are inconvenient, only a few times a day, although it is nice being picked up and dropped of right at the resort. If we were coming again, we would just take a taxi from the airport and take the local ferry to St. Cruz, which goes every hour and is a fraction of the price. Especially since we were stuck waiting in the airport for hours on the way home because of the timings.

It was clean and my children enjoyed their stay. The staff were very polite and friendly.
