Rock Crest Lodge & Cabins

Nice and clean, walking distance to downtown, cozy beds. The rooms in the lodge have mini kitchens- microwave and fridge , there’s a community grill on site too. The rooms do not come with anything ie dishes, silverware etc so if you are planning to cook, you need to ask for it in the office. They supply you with styrofoam plates and plastic cutlery- not exactly what I was planning. The breakfast in the morning is OK- no gluten free options which is a bummer.

Husband and I just wrapped up 4-day stay at motel (a.k.a. “lodge”) unit (bedroom, bathroom, front room with sofa, small efficiency counter w/sink, microwave, cupboards). We had stayed at Rock Crest about 10 years ago and really liked it, but it had been newly remodeled at that time. With those fond memories, we decided to jump in and sign up for 4 days this time. Wish we had only committed to 1 day so we could have moved on. Place needs some TLC, inside and out. Our entry door had gaps all around it - weatherstripping was almost worn away. Carpet looked dirty - we did not walk around w/o shoes on. Shower curtain was moldy at bottom. Bath fan looked like it had never been cleaned. Opened microwave and it was not clean- I wiped it down. My own personal suggestions - update the old outdated bedspreads and replace the old musty curtains w/modern blinds so you don’t feel like you are in a dark cave. A general update (and cleaning) of the unit(s) would not take that much $$$ and make you feel like you are getting what you paid for. It was ridiculously expensive for what you get. Have to say that that the location is great, the people who work there are very nice and the continental breakfast was great.

We loved the spacious rooms and the balcony of the cabins. The balcony was another outdoor room where we ate breakfast and played card games at night. It was a great fit for our family of 6. My kids liked playing on the surrounding rocks by the cabins. The rooms and grounds were clean. There was a lot of stairs up to our cabin, so if you have trouble with stairs there are also smaller rooms by the office. We liked the outdoor pool and used it both nights. Internet was fast, I had do do a work video call, but it worked better on the balcony than in the cabin. Felt like a small cabin in the woods but right on the edge and main drag of Custer. We would stay here again.

We had everything we needed and all of the employees were very nice! Even the music in the lobby started our day off right. It was nice that you could get a state park pass from them if you stayed 3 days.

We loved our overnight stay at Rockcrest Lodge! We wish we could have stayed longer. The room was spacious and clean. We enjoyed the pool (although odd that there was no shallow end). Staff were friendly and helpful. We loved dining at Custer Wolf in town (a short walk). Lots to do nearby. We would definitely recommend!

Very cute place. We stayed in one of the cabins. Great view from the trees. We were hoping to see the night sky from here, unfortunately, a little too much light pollution as I thought the cabins were outside of town. We sat on our deck enjoying the weather and evening/night views. We accidentally locked ourselves out of the room! Our keys for the car, phones, and shoes all inside the cabin! My son walked down to the check-in area, and they gave us another key to get in and said it happens all the time! This place also had an outside pool and hot tub. Great experience!

We were unable to sleep here, unfortunately. We’d booked a loft cabin, but didn’t feel it was safe to try and negotiate the staircase from the loft at night. The staircase was steep, and too wide to treat like a ladder; we couldn’t climb down backwards while facing the steps, which would be the safest method here. But because the steps were different sizes and distances apart, trying to walk down the staircase at night while facing forward would be precarious. We tried to sleep on the sofa bed downstair, but the mattress was very thin and we could feel springs poking into our backs. We didn’t stay for a second night.

Highly recommend the cabins. Clean and well-maintained. We stayed in one of the loft cabins (ours was #208). On the first level it had a kitchen (full fridge, a 2/3 size stove and oven, sink, cabinets, dishes, table for 4), living room and tv, full bathroom with double sinks and a hair dryer. On the loft level it had two queen beds. All cabins have AC and spacious front porches. The cabins are set farther back from the road compared to many other accommodations we saw, though there is still road noise when you're on the porch (though at night the AC blocks out the road noise). There's a nice pool and hot tub on property. The check in office is pleasant and there are to-go breakfast items and coffee. Behind the property is a lovely, natural wooded area -- great for spotting deer and local birds! The property is on the edge of the section of town with restaurants and shops. Next to the property are a great coffee shop and pie/ice cream/lunch place. Custer is an adorable town. Much more charming and more food and shopping options than Keystone.

Just a one night stay here whilst travelling but our room here has everything we needed. Great to have a kitchenette with a sink, fridge and microwave. Bed was huge, we could both "starfish" and not touch. The comforter was a bit "out doorsy" for my taste but did the job. Continental breakfast was great, good bread/muffin/donut selection, along with cereal and oatmeal etc. Overall we had a pleasant stay.
