Nireas Hotel

Nireas Hotel

Daratso|0.78km from city centre
We arrived in beautiful Chania and were dropped off on the main road opposite the little track up to the Nireas. I had read TA reviews so knew to expect that Christos, the owner, would offer us a room upgrade but we were happy with our original room which was Apt 24 on the ground floor with a fantastic large balcony opening straight onto the pool area. We paid €5 a night for air con which was really powerful, and €10 for the safe. The room was dated but more than adequate for us as we are used to Greek accommodation. There were 2 beds pushed together and then a single bed near the door which my son slept in. There was a 2 ring hob, microwave and kettle and basic utensils but we only ate breakfast in the apartment so it was more than enough. I think you would struggle to conjure up a Cordon Bleu meal though but with so many fabulous restaurants on the doorstep, it wasn’t a worry for us. There were a few things that made us chuckle…. the apartment door had been hung the wrong way so the handle was inside the room and not on the outside 🤣 and the usual Greek plumbing scenario with the shower head on the wall but the shower screen on the other side of the shower meaning the floor got soaked 🫣 but hey, it’s Greece 🇬🇷 The maid came in every day except a Sunday and the sheets/towels were changed regularly. There was a drying rack on the patio for hanging wet beach stuff up. Plenty of socket points and the beds were super comfy. The pool area was quiet but we only used it in the afternoons once we came back from the beach. There were always sunbeds and Christos was either there or available by WhatsApp. The WiFi worked fine in our rooms and by the pool. Kato Doratso is a residential suburb just 4km outside of Chania so a perfect location for us. Just down the little road from the hotel is a supermarket on the corner for all your essentials/bottles of water. There were 4 beaches within walking distance and we chose Sunset Beach due to the stunning clear water. It’s a bay so no tide and it was shallow for a great way out meaning our son could happily swim and play without us worrying too much. There was a bar on the beach and the owner did a mean Freddo Cappuccino ☕️ 👌🏽 You could buy salads, hot snacks and sandwiches, ice creams, crisps and drinks there. There were also chargeable sunbeds and parasols and you could hire a kayak or paddle board. There was another shop near the start of the hotels to the left of the bay. We bought a couple of parasols from the shop and lay on the beach. It was full of local families and we thoroughly enjoyed mixing with them. The bus into Chania is the #21. Come out of the hotel, down onto the main road and take a right along the path. Just past the car garage there’s a bus stop and a ticket machine. You need the exact change and it’s €1.10 each into town (€2 if you pay on the bus) When you are is in Chania, as you get off, there’s a ticket machine and a kiosk to buy return tickets and you can catch the bus back

Theos Village Apartments

Daratso|1.49km from city centre
Best holiday!! 'Theos village apartments' is a wonderful, relaxing, friendly, family run establishment. From the moment we arrived at apx 10.30pm we were greeted by the owners with such a wonderful welcome! Nothing was too much trouble. They brought out pizza (which is to die for!) And lovely Greek Salads as we hadn't eaten ( even though the kitchen was closed). We sat on the stunning terrace into the early hours and by the end of the evening we were on first name terms with them and felt we'd known each other for years! The owners, Yota and Dimitris and their son's, Micheal and Alex work very hard to provide the best, friendly and efficient service. The apartments are lovely and clean, very comfortable beds and have all you need for a self catering holiday. Maids came in to clean and provided fresh towels every day. Air con was great and free! The pool area is stunning, not huge but never too busy, we always had beds and we were a party of 10. Micheal and Alex would bring us drinks and ice lollies at the pool to cool us down. The bar and restaurant area is a fabulous, modern setting and provided lunches and evening meals very reasonably priced. We ate there on 2 evenings which we thoroughly enjoyed! Dimitris does all the cooking and is very particular, ensuring all his guests enjoy his food. Yota (who is originally from Canada) strives to make sure everyone is happy and has everything they need. Micheal and Alex are the most charming and helpful lads, advising on local trips and restaurants and attending to every need. We loved all our chats! The local area is quiet enough but has what you need. A great, well stocked supermarket a few minutes walk, a beautiful beach about 8 minute walk with a lovely beach cafe, more shops and restaurants on the main beach road ( there are 2 routes, one is quicker). The bus into Chania is few minutes walk from apartments and only €1.00 per ticket. Takes around 10 minutes ( if that). Buy your tickets at supermarket before going on the bus. Chania old town is beautiful , we went in most days, lots of shops and fab restaurants on the harbour. My parents stayed across the road in Theos holiday apartments ( a separate business) because Theos village couldn't fit us all in. But my parents used Theos village facilities and were greeted and treated as one of their own guests, which was lovely! 'Mama & Papa' loved it! I cannot rate our stay highly enough! We all thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and made great friends with the 'Theos village family'. We were sad to leave! We are looking forward to returning next year! Thank you, Yota, Dimitris, Micheal and Alex 😊

Elizabeth Suites

Firstly Crete is a beautiful and large island with plenty to see and do, I would recommend a visit. The Elizabeth Suites are well appointed, comfortable and clean and suited our needs perfectly ( we were a family of 4 with two teenage children ). The apartments are located on a small quiet site with a large and deep private pool, very close to the beach with a large choice of restaurants on your doorstep, an easy and cheap bus into the centre to see the old town and Venetian harbour is also great with lots of choice of places to eat, drink or shop. We took the option for breakfast despite having self catering facilities in our apartment and it wasn't a disappointment. Breakfast consisted of just about anything you could imagine, lots of it, fresh and presented beautifully and with a few extras for later in the day - usually homemade cake! Epas took the opportunity every day to ask about our plans and experiences which was great and he gave us many good tips for places to go and things to see - this was another bonus of taking the breakfast. Epas also arranged transfers from the airport, a hire car and late checkout so we had the apartment until the moment we left for the airport. We had a great holiday and would highly recommend the Elizabeth Suites as a place to stay and we would return in a heartbeat.

Golden Bay

The scenery and price of this hotel is nothing to say, we stayed at the star hotel next to the hotel for the last two nights and moved to the last night. The garden of this hotel is quite beautiful, the sea view room is superb, and the room next to a bowl of two thousand plus four thousand plus sea view is more cost-effective! The most important thing is that you can cook instant noodles and stir-fry a tomato egg, but the biggest problem is that the hotel quilt is the kind of blanket. In the case of hygiene, the felt felt was lacking, and there was no toiletries, which was why we moved to the city for one night. Personally feel that it is suitable for summer vacations with a good quilt for three or five days.

The first-line sea view and private beach view are invincible, and free parking is also a bonus. I lived in a double-examination sea view room. The living room and balcony on the second floor can only see the scenery, but the air conditioning effect is too poor, and the upstairs is too hot. The temperature on the island in July and August is very high. All items in the hotel are charged, including water, and there is no free bottle.
