Datong Yungang Hotel

The room was quite spacious, and the soundproofing was excellent. I kept hearing firecrackers, though I'm not sure where they were coming from. However, there were far too many mirrors in the room, which would be awkward if you're staying with friends. There's also no partition when you step out of the shower to change. On the plus side, the in-room fridge had complimentary drinks, and there was a generous supply of water and towels. The hotel is located in the new city, about a 10-minute drive from the old city, with a taxi ride costing under ¥15. The hotel's Fenglin Pavilion restaurant was decent. As for the hotel itself, it lacks entertainment facilities, and the breakfast was terrible, absolutely terrible. While there seemed to be a lot of options, everything was unappetizing, with nothing good to eat. Every morning, almost 2,000 people had breakfast, sharing a hall with the Wyndham hotel, and the food on both sides was identical. It felt like pig feed. The ingredients were very poor, definitely not up to five-star hotel standards. Not a single dish was good. This hotel is suitable for business trips, but it falls short for family vacations.

Upgraded to Wyndham, the environment is pretty much the same, after all, it's the same hotel! The environment is decent, the mini-bar is very generous, and they even brought complimentary fruit upon check-in. The service was great, overall satisfied.

Traveling from Hangzhou to Datong this time, I stayed at the Yungang Hotel. My first impression after checking in was: Datong hotels are incredibly grand! 😂 When I arrived at night, the fountain at the entrance turned on, the lights lit up, and the whole hotel looked particularly impressive. Inside, it was 'resplendent' all the way through; the lobby and corridors had the feel of an old-school high-star hotel, perfect for casual photos. The room was much larger than I expected, and the bed was very wide. I could spread out my suitcase completely without it getting in the way. The cleanliness was meticulous; the bedding, desk, and bathroom were all very neat. Overall, my stay for several nights was very comfortable. The bathroom was also spacious, and the double sinks were very convenient – two people could get ready in the morning without fighting for space. The breakfast is also worth praising. The variety was truly extensive, not just a few random items like some hotel breakfasts. There was a huge spread of fruits, hot dishes, and main courses. Those with decision paralysis would definitely go back for several rounds! 😂 It's especially friendly for tourists; eating a hearty breakfast before heading out to explore means you won't get hungry easily for the whole morning. Overall, it's a place I'd be happy to recommend. The environment is grand enough, the room is spacious and clean enough, and breakfast is abundant. If you care about accommodation comfort when visiting Datong, you can confidently choose Yungang Hotel, especially if you spend your days exploring and want a good rest at night. Next time I come to Datong, it will likely be among my top choices for accommodation.

The hotel is not far from the ancient city and Wanda Plaza, making it convenient for getting around, shopping, and dining. The room was spacious, bright, clean, and hygienic. Breakfast was plentiful. The only minor drawback was that the air conditioning couldn't be adjusted for both heating and cooling, so the room temperature was only 21 degrees Celsius at night.

1. The hotel boasts luxurious decor, particularly the four teal-colored pillars in the lobby paired with an icicle-shaped chandelier, which create a unique and charming ambiance. The rooms are well-appointed with solid materials, including many teal stone accents, and are well-maintained. 2. Upon check-in, the front desk offered us a choice of rooms. Although she warned that rooms near the elevator might be noisy, we didn't think much of it, assuming it was just guests coming and going. However, the real issue arrived. Before 5 AM on Sunday morning, a wedding photography team of over a dozen people showed up in the stairwell, complete with a wind machine and other equipment, to take pictures of the bride. They made a ruckus for over an hour. The most outrageous part was them smoking in the elevator area – isn't this supposed to be a non-smoking floor?! A word of caution for weekend guests: avoid rooms facing the elevator lobby, as you might get woken up. 3. As for breakfast, it's incredibly substantial here. They have freshly grilled fish and steak made on the spot early in the morning, along with beef and potatoes, braised pork, and large shrimp. Of course, standard hotel breakfast items like bacon and sausage are also available. The downside is that it gets crowded; even between 7 AM and 8 AM, about 70-80% of the tables are occupied.

From the lobby to the rooms, everything exuded grandeur and luxury, giving off an impression of no expense spared. The room layout was also very well-planned, and I was pleasantly surprised to find a walk-in closet. Overall, I was quite satisfied, though breakfast was indeed very crowded, and it took a while to find a seat.

The air conditioning in the room was consistently not cool, even colder in the hallway and by the elevator. The room was so stuffy I couldn't sleep. I called the front desk multiple times but no one answered. The attitude was terrible, and they were still fixing the AC at midnight. Avoid this place! Don't stay here!

The facilities are complete and the room is very spacious. However, it was quite crowded and noisy, with long waits for elevators and breakfast. The hotel facilities are good, but the hygiene was average. The bathroom sink was in the bedroom, and the steam created a smell. The carpet also wasn't very clean. On the plus side, the location is excellent. Dinner can be had directly at Feng Lin Ge on the first floor, and the 1.6-meter deep swimming pool is great. The in-room mini-bar and mineral water were well-stocked.
