Recently, I have been avoiding international brand hotels like Hilton, Hyatt, Marriott, Accord, etc. The reason is simple: these hotels rely on the brand to sell their products and not on the (quality) hospitality service they supply. They are mostly overpriced in comparison to the same category of a local non-chain franchise hotel. This is valid for Asia and the Middle East, where I operate most of the time. Yeah, they will save the planet by not providing a toothbrush or a razor... The body soap on a canister fixed to the shower wall could be replenished too so they could save the planet without making the guest pissed-off because there is no soap to shower. Service from reception staff is set to bare minimums. It is all about abiding (or not) the franchise operations manual and meeting sales targets, not hospitality. Not one single outlet that I could plug my phone charger (US/Japan standard plug). The shaver power outlet in the bathroom was broken... Laundromat 1 washer and 1 dryer, you have to buy and bring your detergent. The breakfast buffet was good and the staff there was very friendly and helpful.
