Last time I stayed here ( about 6 years ago?) room was dirty so have not been back again until three weeks ago. Location is superb right at the edge of Temple bar along the River Liffey -downside its a party area so like most Hotels in this area dont plan to sleep until late as lots of noise from bars etc. Room was lovely with lots of nice touches -only big issues I had was in 12c Dublin coming from 32c Jakarta and central heating did not work-you have to call reception to get it switched on then it cuts off every hour and does not work again until you call reception-totally unacceptable for a 5 star Hotel . Ended calling them five times so not much sleep!! It was a Tuesday night so looked like one of the bars in the Hotel was shut-but lots outside anyhow. Did not have breakfast as last time I did was served-took ages and was cold-judging by recent reviews on tripadvisor looks like this still. Reception on check in and out would not win any prizes for their hospitality and were just ok-could learn from The Morrison across the river where I stayed a few nights earlier -genuine hospitality. Would I stay there again -NO -leave it to Bono and the locals -heat is a basic requirement as is hospitality-better Hotels for the same or less money to be had in Dublin City.

Perfect location. Hotel is simple and rustic. No AC (which is fine, it’s Ireland) but we had an interior window that faced the sunrise so it warmed up rather quickly. Thankful for the soundproof windows bc there was a hopping bar below us w thumping music well into the early morning. But again, with this, air flow became a challenge at night. Grateful for the door fan which was provided. Hotel staff were helpful and provided us w an adaptor promptly.

This was a great place to stay! The room was very clean and pretty, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the lobby was gorgeous. Had a great view overlooking the river and was within walking distance of hundreds of different restaurants and things to do. It is a very busy area and there is definitely some Street noise, but the walls of our room were very soundproofed. We never heard our neighbors.

LOVED The Clarence--my only regret is that I only stayed one night. You simply can't find a better location in Dublin, surrounded by fabulous historic pubs, great dining and walking distance to pretty much everything. Loved my room and its balcony and the water pressure in the shower was fantastic (I have this thing about good water pressure). I also loved the lobby bar and how cool to have a REAL key! It was my very first time in Dublin following a cruise aboard a tall sailing ship, but I'd have to say I started at the top--and I'll surely be back to Dublin AND The Clarence!

The location of this hotel is fabulous! However, it was by far the worst hotel we stayed in in all of Ireland. It was dark and stark with windows looking directly into heating duct work. It reminded me of a young bachelors pad with bare floors and no style or warmth. Also, it was LOUD! I would never stay here again unless I could be guaranteed a top floor with river views.

The location was excellent for transport / walking and access to F & B and local attractions and the staff polite and discreet , housekeeping was also fine as were the amenities however TBH it wasn’t good value for money and the room could probably do with a makeover. * Room was so hot as to make it difficult to sleep.Ironic as my home town is over 30degrees Celsius for 4-5 months a year. * Window Latch fell off as it had no screws holding it * Door handle was coming off * Bathroom fan didn’t work * plastic sheet shower curtain couldn’t contain the water to the over bath shower. * Shower tap was impractical as you had to let the cold water hit your body whilst trying to adjust the temp of the odd style mixer. * Room dimensions less than generous but workable however at the rate we paid it was not comparable Value. * With no ventilation to speak of the room was stuffy and the only respite was a pedestal fan and open windows however the windows had to be closed to sleep due to the noise from nearby pubs and clubs * For the record it was better than camping and by no means the worst place I’ve ever stayed. Note; I had not considered submitting a review until you asked for it and I felt I needed to be honest. Had it not been for the staff I would have only given 2 * Despite the staff and the excellent location I wouldn’t recommend it and won’t be staying there when I return to Dublin in 2 weeks time.

What a wonderful experience we had staying at the Clarence. The staff, especially Caroline and Jose were warm, friendly, and helpful. We ate at the Cleaver East and the food was exceptionally good. They brought us extra coffee pods and cream every time we called which was several! Our room was very clean and serviced every day. The Clarence is located in a perfect place in the city. We walked everywhere and could get there in just a few minutes on foot. Thank you Clarence for making our trip to Dublin one of our favorite trips ever!
