This was a truly awful. experience. The place is not well signposted so took a bit of finding after dark. When we rang to check the location, it obviously came as a surprise to the owner that we were about to arrive. (We had emails from him confirming our booking.) He asked us to wait while he checked with his wife and call back in five minutes to confirm, we could have a room. We did have a booking and we were allowed in. And that was probably our first mistake. Three adults, we were in one room with a put-up bed for my brother-in-law. The room was dirty. The building could be magnificent but a thorough clean would do it no harm whatsoever. I’d read previous reviews and was ready for a rude host - but he wasn’t (although he lost points when he kept me standing on the doorstep in the rain, while he mulled over actually letting us in). When we saw the room and knew that it was far from what we were hoping for, he did offer immediately to refund our money, but it was 8 o’clock. We were tired. We’d been travelling since 6am, and we decided it would work for one night. And the night was fine (although my brother-in-law has kept very quiet about the quality of sleep in that put-up bed). Then came the morning after. We were in a room for three, there were 2 cups. There was no tea, coffee, milk, or sugar or indeed kettle. Just 2 cups. There was a water jug, but no water, and no offer of water. In the morning, when I popped out to the car, I could see the owners in the kitchen. By the time we came back downstairs, they had skedaddled - wisely, as that would have been when we asked for a refund. The bathroom is frankly, disgraceful. No visitor to anyone’s house should be asked to use the bathroom that has clearly not been cleaned. I don’t mind hair in the bathroom if it’s mine -or that of a member of my party. But when it’s there from a previous occupant, and I’m paying to stay there, I do get a bit miffed. The shower itself was dirty. It did work after some physical “encouragement” from my husband who, luckily, only had his hand to hit it with. When he left the shower and used the towel provided, he was a tad disappointed when it split almost in half. Had he been looking for 2 face flannels It would’ve been perfect. Don’t stay here. Look somewhere else. These people do not deserve to take tourists’ hard earned cash, when they are so reluctant to provide a clean, hospitable environment. Admittedly we had booked before the pandemic and our booking had been rolled forward, but there is no excuse for the experience we had when our money had been banked quite some while ago, and there was no effort to honour the spirit of the contract.
