The Mercure Duisburg City is easy to reach by car. A municipal underground car park is located under the hotel (€12/day). The hotel makes a good first impression. Our room was large and well furnished. The bathroom is very nice and there is also a free hotel safe. The breakfast buffet offered a large selection and left nothing to be desired, apart from the fact that there were no plates from time to time, the coffee machine regularly broke down and scrambled eggs were only available sporadically. Since our double room was initially only for one person (a blanket and towels once) was improved after complaining to the front desk. The grief then on the second day: the rooms and beds are no longer made in this house due to a corona-related lack of staff. Complaints at the front desk pointless. Two nights with breakfast in a double room for € 186 are completely covered in this case. I will not stay here again!

Great hotel situated by the Marina/harbour and ideally placed for the city centre. Exceptionally clean and very comfortable hotel. Excellent and varied choice breakfast buffet. Staff went out of their way to be helpful and very friendly. Would have no fears about recommending this hotel.

Nice hotel. The lady at the reception/bar was very friendly and working very hard. The lobby is nice with some cosy chairs and couches. Rooms are simple , but clean and really quiet. Shower had a decent water pressure. Breakfast was tasty, good variety of food.

The rooms are big, clean, breakfast is good, and the waiters are serious and polite, warm and thoughtful. There is a railway station nearby, making it easy to travel. There are shopping malls, it is Christmas, and there are Christmas markets. gorgeous.

Also die Dusche als ich die gesehen habe dachte ich mir, ok das wird mein stammhotel, nur leider 1 punktabzug für den überhaupt nicht passenden duschkopf, erstens zu schwach und zweitens zu nah an der Ecke, das war so richtig enttäuschend, nichts destotrotz würde ich da wieder buchen, hoffe nur das der Geschäftsmann mal sich überlegt diese Kleinigkeit zu verbessern für die Perfektion.
Ausserdem ist der Boden die aller beste Wahl die man haben konnte, bei den anderen hat man immer ein Ekel bekommen, bei dem habe ich mich getraut barfuss zu laufen

We stayed here for a weekend. Sadly for us the first thing that greeted us was a 30€ early check in charge. We arrived around 12.30 so I would hardly call it early. We inquired why there was a charge and they said that was there policy (which I couldnt find). It was even more lf a slap on the face when we discovered the room was ready and the hotel was mostly empty ! It just comes across like you want to rob your customers ! The rooms are without any wardrobes either which is another detraction. On the plus side breakfast was cheap around 11€, central location, spacious room with small balcony. Unfortunately first impressions were lasting.

The overall is relatively clean and the environment is good. We simply stayed for one night and went to Cologne the next day, about an hour's drive away.
The breakfast is also not bad. Next time you can consider staying again

We stayed at this hotel for two nights for a trade fair. I absolutely cannot agree with the previous speakers here. Everything was fine with us. The room in the main building was clean and well maintained. The hotel had problems with TV reception - we were made aware of this in advance and it was not a problem for us as we spent very little of our stay in the room. The television should work in the annex building - if desired we could have switched to it. The breakfast buffet was rich and delicious. Fresh fruit and chopped vegetables, a small selection of fresh rolls and various spreads and toppings and much more. You could choose soy milk as an alternative to milk. The service in the hotel was very friendly. A small drawback - our room was not made after the first night. Wasn't a problem for us as we were only staying for two nights. Maybe we just overlooked something here and it really wasn't included. Maybe these are also corona rules that we didn't know about. But as I said... Not so wild for us. The hotel is super centrally located - the city center, a large shopping center and the subway can easily be reached on foot.

The hotel is 20 minutes walk from Essen Central Railway Station, not far from the pedestrian street, walking is within walking distance, parking is also very convenient downstairs in the hotel itself.
The parking fee is 17.5 Euro/night, which is a bit more expensive. The parking fee has to be paid in advance and not accepted. It is estimated that inflation in Europe has been quite severe in the past two years. I feel that prices are soaring, and prices for meals and accommodation are rising.

I stayed in this hotel on a business trip. The hours of the breakfast on Sunday are terrible (7-10am). Nothing else is open for breakfast near the hotel. They need to stay open later. The front desk staff are very rude. On my 3 interactions with them, they could care less about the needs of a guest. I am a Hilton Diamond member and Marriott Titanium member and am use to a hotel that focuses on customer service. Even simple things like towels are a problem here. There was no iron or ironing board in the roof so I called the front desk. The woman said they have them at the front desk and to come down and retrieve it. I went immediately down and was told sorry, they don't have anymore. Good luck getting washcloths. The website claims that guests and hotel staff are required to wear masks in all public areas. However, ever single time I passed by the front desk, regardless of time or who was behind the desk, the front desk clerks were NEVER wearing their masks. The hotel would NOT recommend staying here!

GGuest UserVisited as part of a Scottish Hockey Team, 21 of us in total, most stayed here, but a couple stayed across the road, we saw a double room It was small no air conditioning but still a decent room. Friendly checkin from luvly welcoming staff, on the Thursday evening when we arrived, the two ladies on reception were very efficient at checking us in, also very good serving us drinks once everyone had returned from having dinner. Other teams were also staying, so the place was very busy during the tournament. We had room 508, which was luvly, spacious, and clean with plenty shelving and wardrobe space, a safe and a fridge. with a view of the gardens. The bathroom was spacious with good storage areas for toiletries, makeup, etc. a decent hairdryer and magnifying mirror, and a good shower, the room was cleaned daily to a very high standard. Breakfast was buffet style, with plenty of food on offer, fruit juices, fruit, cereals, cold meat, cheese, bread/rolls/croissants, fried eggs, sausages, bacon and scrambled eggs. Coffee machine and various teas so something for everyone, breakfast staff worked very hard during the 3 mornings when ourselves and other teams arrived at the same time. We sat outside which was really nice in the garden area. The hotel has luvly comfy seats and seating areas to relax in, also nice pictures on the walls. Reception staff were very helpful ordering us taxis to go to our games. A couple of evenings we njoyed drinks in the bar area, again the staff were friendly and chatty. We stayed an extra 3 days, just to see the area and visit museums, shops etc. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return next year. :) :)

GGuest UserWe wouldn't even visit this one night at the hotel for a private celebration. The horrible end was the locked breakfast that cannot be harmonised with the price called. At the neighbouring table a lady asked for a grain bread, this was denied. There was no breakfast buffet, but was served after a order! How long the sauce and cheese had been “uncooled” at the table, of course, it is not possible to see. I find this inappropriate and obvious austerity under the cover “Corona” completely in addition, as well as the very (!) unfriendly service (grey hair) in the dining room. There would be an urgent need for coaching! Humanly defect! Unfortunately, the limited time for breakfast was not informed us in advance. The speech with the notice was accordingly unprofessional and aggressive. I have not experienced something after countless hotel stays. I ask quite simple and simple things: friendliness (not cost). A suitable choice at breakfast! Conclude: Coaching staff (friendly) ++++++ Improve breakfast performance because it is defect. Note: Whoever wants to have breakfast in a pleasant and friendly environment in the morning and wants to find a “normal” selection is wrong here!

Aaxel pI was pleasantly surprised by the hotel. Very clean rooms, very friendly and helpful service. There are very good restaurants near the hotel. The breakfast was delicious. friendly and helpfull staf. There is also a bar where you can drink in the evening.

GGuest UserFive out of five for the price. Clean rooms, relatively quite (though you can hear people in the halls and ither rooms, laminat floor echo) My own bathroom. I had a family room for 2 with my 11 year old daughter. Breakfast is included and has enough good stuff all things considered. Beds are foam matresses, but my old back survived.

GGuest UserI had a single room with a desk, a single room and a compact bathroom with shower and toilet. When the hotel arrived, a careful gentleman who showed me the private parking place and also walked out to show the broadcaster in front of the door. The hotel has a restaurant. Breakfast was good. A basket with a butterham and two breads. The hot was the sausages, the roasting and the bacon.
