Stunning from the outside, however the room needed some tlc (not sure if perhaps our room is used as a pet friendly room which might explain that). Bathroom was really nice, recently refurbished. Out room was situated above some outside seating and other guests were fairly noisy outside until gone 11pm which wasn't great. Food was generally good, had one issue with an item, but no apology and seemed to be an effort to get the item removed from the bill. Fire alarm also went off at 6:50am. Unlikely we would stay again.

Restaurant service, quality and quantity very good, but had issue with the Hotel's 3 course dinner offer. Obviously the Chef was not in agreement with the offer and it took ages to serve, otherwise the food was lovely. Room very comfortable, but if you are disabled in any way, there is no lift.

The hotel is set in grounds that have been adequately described in other reviews, the interior is rather impersonal and a bit run down but everything was clean and the staff were all friendly and helpful. But a particular mention must be given to the lady running the bar on the evening we were there who was an absolute delight and worked hard selling the hotel amenities . We did not dine but noted that the dining room was empty We decided to have breakfast and that, I’m afraid,is where things went wrong. The menu offered “Grilled kippers with poached eggs “ This turned out to be a single boil in the bag kipper fillet with two fairly solid poached eggs, not unpalatable but not what I expected. However my major beef was the behaviour of other guests with dogs .I don’t know what kind of pleb feels they can take dogs into a restaurant, or what misguided management allows them to do it but here we had the perfect confluence of three yappy mutts and their ineffectual owners entertaining the assembled eaters with a cacophony of barking interspersed with hopeless mewls of “stop it “ and “Quiet “ which were happily ignored. It’s a shame that an adequate stay should be spoiled by behaviour that , if it had been children, would not have been tolerated

friendly and helpful staff, with a comfy and cosy room, set in lovely grounds with tremendous views, far away enough away from the city centre to feel part of the national park , but close enough to visit local towns and attractions, Breakfast was included and was very good , coupled with free internet and parking - perfect stay

We stayed for 1 night, checked in late and checked out early. Staff were very friendly and accommodating with this. Room was standard. Pillows and bed were nicer than expected and very comfortable. Walls were thin so could hear neighbours however it was quite. Shower wasn’t the best and there was a long black hair in the bed but apart from that everything was very clean. Would recommend this hotel if you need a place to stay for the night but it isn’t as ‘luxurious’ as it seems . ( photos taken at night)

On arrival at the Hotel, you will find it set in beautiful gardens with stunning views with plenty of parking. We arrived at reception to check in at 2pm, and the reception informed us that our room was not ready as check in wasn't until 3pm, we showed her on the site that we booked it clearly stated 2pm so we were shown to a lounge area and waited nearly an hour then for the room to be ready. The room was nice and spacious but really could do with some tlc, there were areas of damp and some of the wall paper is peeling away from the walls. There were tea & coffee with some biscuits provided. The bathroom looks like it has been recently refurbished so was nice and modern. In the bedroom straight away we noticed quite a few spiders all on the ceiling, and when checking the information folder for the room found a dirty tissue in the folder, but the bed was comfortable with spare pillow and blanket in the wardrobe with also a fan too. We went down for evening meal and was shown to our table, the menu has limited choices and also some vegetarian choices too which was nice to see, we ordered and the meal did come quite quickly and was very hot, we ordered a side of bhajis to go with the curry and these were cremated and when cutting in to them they were raw on the inside and cold, nobody came to check on us after we had been served the food so at the end of the meal we told the server and was just told that she would tell the chef, no apology. We retired to the room and but when it came to settling, there were table and chairs right out side our window and people were sat there till late chatting and laughing which the hotel couldn't help but if you want to settle early may need to ask for a room not looking out over the gardens. We had a early start as the fire alarm went off and the hotel had to be evacuated at 6.50 in the morning, so an early breakfast for us, which was ok but nobody checked on making sure the pastries etc were replenished and people had to keep asking for things to be topped up or replenished. Our stay was ok but dont think we will return.
