Glen Gat House
4.3/522 Reviews
Glen Gat - Family B&B. It's been the business of Tim and Catherine for 32 years. Now daughter Helena joined it. Their B&B is a restored Victorian house. Each room has a unique design, and the common hall and dining room can be visited as a museum of Irish life. But what attracts and gives uniqueness is the owner of the establishment - Tim, who is known by everyone in Dundalk. He will personally make you breakfast, and chat with you on any topic and joke. If you have any problem, you can easily contact the hosts. From recommendations on where to buy swimming trunks or to repair a laptop to advice on which doctor to consult or which school to send a child to. They will not just give advice, but will also call and arrange a meeting by themselves. Or even take you with them there. If you're lucky enough to visit Glen Gat during the holidays, you can be sure that you'll be celebrating as if at home. On Easter, you will search for chocolate eggs around the hotel and receive a delicious Easter dinner. On Halloween, you will play various games: freeze dance, piñata and others. You will prepare goodies yourself and hit pinatas, and the number of sweets will exceed all your expectations. If you're lucky enough to visit Glen Gat in the summer for the Tain March Festival, Helen and Tim will take you to a fancy dress event in the centre of Dundalk. You will not just be a spectator, you will be dressed in a Viking costume, Viking symbols will be painted on your face, and you will become a participant in the event and even a bit of an actor. It is simply difficult to imagine an even greater uniqueness of hospitality.

the hotel is very nice when you walk in, staff are very professional&rooms are super clean. the rooms DO NOT have air conditioning, so as we walked in at 3.30pm it was like a sauna.the window would only open a very small amount.there was a fan, which we left on all the time, but that just moved around the hot air.didn't sleep well at all because of heat. AIR CONDITIONING unit needs to be installed. bar is very nice&beer garden. prices are too high though.to pay €7.80 for a pint of birra moretti is too much. would only go back to stay in hotel if i saw air conditioning was installed.

We checked in late and receptionist was very efficency + friendly.I had rang earlier in the day to say we would be arriving later.Reception asked what time as food finished being served at 9pm.I was happy to know this + we stopped on route as our arrival time was due to be 9 30.We had a lovely spacious room and enjoyed a few drinks in the bar Only small quip: barman didn't let the Guinness settle before top up.Told me ”that will be grand in a few minutes” To me that indicates he knew he should wait.Tasted lovely! Did ask what type of tonic I would like for gin which I was happy about
Hotel Imperial Dundalk

Me and my partner stay here loads and loved the place until we stayed again for his birthday in room 320 and there seemed to be a leak from toilet or corner of bathroom. We quickly used towels as we didnt wanna bother staff and made sure all running water was off but as we returned it was worse so we talked to a staff member and requested large bath towels delivered to our room, we used them hoping it would clear but no one bothered to check in with us. We awoke in the middle of the night and it was very bad running into hallway resulting in us using clothes. When we went to check out we got most of it cleared but there was no one at reception to talk to just a box for keys. We emailed to express our frustration and were accused by niamh the manager that we left the shower running when we didnt and that would of meant the bath was filled and over flowed which is absurd. The management ignored our future emails about a resolution and this has resulted in us cancelling future trips. I see on facebook plenty of reviews faulting the management and sadly i can agree, when you have good customers you shouldnt be ignored or blamed when u place one complaint out of many stays. No accountability taken at all and made to feel just like a number. I will be avoiding this hotel now at all costs. No partial refund discount nothing for a ruined birthday stay.
