From the moment I arrived, Cable Court Motels felt different from all the other accommodation options packed into this area of North Dunedin (I have stayed at 5-6 others in this area before). From check in to check out management where kind, helpful, friendly, compassionate and informative. This was a refreshing considerate interaction with managers who obviously take pride in their business and care for their staff and customers. Amazing to have accommodation that dogs are welcomed and not a burden, with no extra cost or hassle. Rooms were spotlessly clean and modern, warm and very spacious. Great location, walking distance to all Dunedin's CBD amenities. Thank you again, cannot recommend Cable Court Motel enough!

I will consider staying here in the future when I go to Dunedin, the location is great! The space is also relatively large, and the sanitation cannot be said to be very good, but it is also good in the hostel! I’ve stayed in another house before and rated it well, but overall it’s better here

This is a hotel with character and charm. We stayed here as a couple for two nights and shared a beautiful room with a sparkling clean en-suite. The room had a classic old-fashioned fire place (non-working) and the fine touches that you associate with Georgian or Victorian manor houses. The hosts were welcoming and went out of their way to accommodate our requests. There are only a few rooms so you have the feel of staying in a wing of a private home. If we return to Dunedin we are definitely staying here. Great value, great location and great ambience.

We were pleasantly surprised to find such beautiful accommodations in Dunedin but as usual using Tripadvisor’s suggestions, we thought we did very, very well. Beautifully appointed refurbished hotel with absolutely first class Fisher and Paykel appliances, a stunning view of downtown, and beautiful location right in the heart of the city. With an unmanned desk and everything conducted by text Internet or phone this location could be challenging for the not so savvy traveler, but we found it to be amazing. Probably the nicest hotel I have stayed in. Whoever developed this hotel has an extraordinary eye for design. Negotiating the no contact check in, the key card codes, and the adjacent carpark were all challenges, but with someone always available from a phone, this was accomplished. The very contemporary layout and color palette may not be too everyone’s taste, but we found it extraordinary and a rare find. We stayed in room 307 during shoulder season so heat was not an issue for us. Tip: if you are technologically challenged, this might not be your best bet since it is not traditional. If you are able to negotiate using a phone, text, etc., then you will probably be all right but our “no desk check-in”was rocky with information not gathered correctly, but after negotiating that we were more than pleasantly surprised by this extraordinary property. Certainly a pleasant surprise in a beautiful city.

The hotel is full of old-fashioned Scottish style. The first floor is a bar, restaurant, and a ******. The front desk clerk is very funny. He often drinks and chats in the bar. He will come over if you need anything. The corridor and stairwell are full of old-fashioned style and very romantic. The room is not big, with old-fashioned doors and windows. There is free parking. It is in the city center, Bajiao Street, the old train station, and the oldest church are all within a 5-minute walk. There are two different national chain supermarkets, Countdown and New World, within a 10-minute walk.

Its in a good location, so easy to walk around town. Parking is good. The place was very clean. Unfortunately the bed was a queen and had seen better days. Quite uncomfortable if we're honest. We'd booked an extra large bed, which we expected to be a king size or two singles joined together. Probably should have asked for an upgrade in hindsight. Room was okay, the duvet was nice and warm, and the room temperature good. It was a bit noisy due to the road outside and some people noise, but that's not the properties fault. The water pressure in the bathroom sink was fantastic, but the shower was pretty lame. Overall it was just above average. We're probably just disappointed because we'd paid similar money somewhere else and this it was not nearly as good.

I picked this hotel because it was an ideal location for me and I was able to walk to where I needed to be each day, so I didn't need a rental car for 4 days! The rooms were warm, beds were very comfortable and the room was clean and tidy -definitely value for money and provided the basics. They can only fit so much into a room and provide the basics for what you're paying per night. The bar itself was great, loyal locals, typical pub food, and nice warm fire. I spent a few hours based in here doing my work and it was just fine. If you want all the bells and whistles, go somewhere else and pay more. Reviewers that knock these sort of places need to realistic about what to expect, or go and pay more and stay somewhere else.

Outstanding
GGuest UserWe stayed 4 nights in the superior King room (Room 206) during the blizzard of Oct 2022. The room and bathroom were well-appointed and stunningly presented. It looks as good as advertised. The experience was excellent from check-in to check-out. Valet parking service was prompt and exceptional value - 30NZD a day feels like a steal. Service was attentive, responsive but not stuffy. Without intending to omit anyone, Romaine/Ramon(?) in The Press Club and Lianna(?) on the front desk were particularly easy to talk to. Of the 4 fine dining dinners we had in Dunedin, The Press Club at Fable was the stand out. It was well ahead of so-called ‘hatted’ restaurants like Moiety (don’t eat at Moiety, it’s terrible). The venison rack was a highlight.
GGuest UserStayed two nights at this hotel which is located right in the CBD with an easy walk to the Dunedin Railway Station and Octagon where many cafes and restaurants are located. The hotel is situated down an alleyway but instructions received in an email from the hotel prior to arrival explained in detail how to get to the hotel. Our room was a good size with a king-sized bed along with a single bed. It was clean and serviced promptly each morning. The staff are friendly and reception suggested we have breakfast at The Good Oil just across the road. Would definitely recommend this hotel to other travellers.
GGuest UserThis hotel is very self effacing. It says it is a 4 star but in fact it is better than that! Upon arrival we were welcomed and were lucky enough to be given an upgrade to a one bedroom suite. The room was absolutely spotless and the the servicing of the room was faultless! The bar is pleasant and service second to none! The restaurant was special. The food was at a very high standard as was the service! We loved this hotel and will stay there whenever we are in Dunedin
SSightseer05218206322Jenny was very welcoming on arrival. The rooms were very clean and modern with a kitchenette. We had a ground floor room but the wifi only worked outside in the carpark and not in our room. The location was excellent with a lovely cafe down the road. Turn left out of the driveway. New World was just around the corner.
GGuest UserThere were lots of great things about this place, and at the same time it's the strangest place I have stayed in! First the great things - immaculate, amazing bed and super amazing shower. Large room, All of that was perfect. Then the not so great - nothing in the room to read about where to go for food, whether any place might deliver, wanted to order breakfast and it didn't seem to be an option. Ended up googling, then not finding the place I was looking for in Mosgiel (maybe it's shut down? It was all dark) so was happy to find Countdown and a soup for dinner with some food for breakfast. Then the terrible - they say they are contactless, which is all fine in this new world. I didn't know this before I came. As a result I didn't see a soul and as a traveller from out of town who was on her own I felt a little unsafe at having no contact with anyone (even at a distance would have been OK!). It felt a bit post-apocalyptic. I was wondering if they are scared to see people! This is New Zealand and there is no COVID in the community, so it seemed a bit over the top. I had trouble locking the door (it's a European lock and the instructions weren't enough for me), so went looking for help. Rang the door bell. No reply (there was a car outside and the lights were on). Then saw a notice saying I should phone. Did that and the recorded message said no one was available to talk to me Then got a text saying ”Please text me”, did that saying I can't lock the door. No reply. I texted again asking if someone could please help me. Then I got a text back with better instructions which worked. That was the sum contact I had. If I had a serious problem would anyone have helped me? I didn't feel safe, as it felt like there was no one who would help out at all. In this regard I found the place quite unwelcoming. If they had reading material in the room with helpful info and including some warm and welcoming words, and so I could know that someone was there and actually cared, it would have helped a lot. I would have been quite happy not to see anyone, but to know they were there in the event of an emergency. So the summary - this was the most comfortable place I have stayed in for a long time. But as a single female traveller who needed some help with the room and a pointer as to where to get food on a winters night, I didn't feel safe.

The hotel was very comfortable and the hotel was very comfortable.
We always stay here when visiting Dunedin. The owner is always very pleasant, helpful and respectful. The room is always very clean with a big comfy bed. Very generous with the amount of extras that come with the room, for example, extra pillows, 3 heaters and plenty of tea, coffee and cookies. Always a very pleasant and comfortable stay at a reasonable price.
GGuest UserRoom is very clean and very well presented. Bed is very soft and comfortable. Staff were very accommodating and friendly. The location is perfect, walking distance to the city. The only downside is the parking as you need to book a head of time due to limited space but it would be more convenient to all having its parking available. Otherwise our stay was absolutely 👍🏻 .😊
JJoG202Economy room was perfect for a night when visiting for graduation. Peter was great host, as was Jacqueline 2nd day. Clean and comfortable room, great shower. Nice and quiet on 2nd floor. Cooked breakfast in large stunning dining room was fantastic. Chef made me an omelette since I don't eat meat. Walking distance to most areas. Free parking across busy road
GGuest UserI was here for two nights. Due to my plane arriving early, I had planned to leave my bags at reception and go off exploring until check-in time. I was very surprised and pleased that the girl in reception had managed to get my room ready early, so I was able to freshen up after the flight down. The girl at reception was also really knowledgeable about the area and was able to supply maps and offer advice re cafes to try. The room itself was middle of the range, but very clean and tidy and the shower pressure just amazing! Fully recommend this hotel for solo travellers, and business people sue to the central location.
