The facade of the hotel looks amazing, another thing is the inside… where do I start. The location it’s fairly close to everything within a walk distance, considering that both Dunkeld and Birnam are villages that won’t take you more than 10 minutes to see everything. The interesting part is on the nature around it. The room was decent size, but that was about it. The worst mattress in Scotland you can find it hear, not allowing us to sleep for more than 2 hours straight. That combined to the WC’s water sound that would wake up the sleepiest creature in this world, it made the whole stay very unpleasant. The restaurant has the poorest service I’ve ever experienced, and I swear I’m not one to complaint about anything as long as there is food. But this was outrageous, the person who attended us, did it like we owed her our lives, being rude, would haven been the nicest that she could’ve done. And for the money they charge you, you would expect that the food at least would have been well cooked and not raw.. but hey, there is tastes for everyone. The only good thing about this it was the receptionist Praya, who was always with a smile and a good answer for you.

My fiancé and i had a lovely two night stay here yes its an older hotel requiring a bit of modernisation however, we appreciated the history and character of it. Our room was warm, clean and spacious the staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend.

PROPERTY HAS SECURITY ISSUES. AVOID. A random guest accidentally walked into my wife and daughters' room with their room key from another room at 10:00pm at night. The keys at this property will allow you to open up other rooms' doors. Management was non responsive and dismissive to our experience. Stay at your own risk.

We came for 2 nights because we had a wedding close, the hotel is really old and it some areas you could call it run down, but I think it added to its charm, the room was big the ceilings high and the bed comfy with a nice warm shower, the breakfast was good and all staff friendly. But it was old the toilets in the reception area reminded me of something 100 years ago the lift is probably original from the 20s, but it was cool.

Booked 2 nights for a wedding in Dunkeld but wouldn't of hesitated to stay longer. From the outside the building is very impressive. Inside is a little dated but adds character to the nearly 175 year old ex castle. Staff was very friendly and checked everything was ok and if we needed anything multiple times as we walked by reception. Free wifi provided in the rooms and breakfast down stairs was nice and relaxed, choices of cereals, toast and fresh fruit before full Scottish breakfast. Short walk down to Dunkeld village which has a few different places to eat. Small pub next door also for food and drink. Parking out front. Ironing board, iron and hair drier provided in the room along with a kettle with tea and coffee which came in handy. Will be back.

This was once the kind of majestic "centrepiece" (going back decades now) where coaches stopped off regularly and where numerous travellers and day trippers had afternoon tea/high tea en route further north. It had a great ambience and was definitely buzzing. Week end visits, longer stays, meals, wonderful cocktails. It was the in place. Fast forward and some changes of ownership. Nowadays alas, there is only a hint of that old elegance in the palatial public areas. Curtains detached from their rings and not attended to in bedrooms. Tiny bedside lights like the kind from the pound shop. I know that times are tough but with some small attention to soft furnishings in rooms and it could be greatly improved. No bar. Residents enjoy a pre -dinner drink or "one for the road" The adjacent Birnam Inn which is affiliated with the big hotel is more like a drab and run down community hall. Our local village hall is classy compared with it. Only 6 diners in it when we were there and totally devoid of any atmosphere. It used to be heaving with Erigmore guests (nearby leisure park) flocking down for the atmosphere. Both co-joined establishments need a spark of vitality and with a little planning and some much needed change implemented, this could be a place with some panache again. Bring back the residents bar for one. Get the Birnam Inn looking cozy and inviting. The few staff I saw, however in the big hotel were affable and courteous.

We didn’t stay here but due to poor planning on our part we ended up with a 1.5 hour wait at 11pm on a particularly cold night at the bus stop across the road. It had been a stressful night and my mum was freezing so I went in on the off chance they would let us wait for our bus in reception. The general manager Paul was amazing and allowed us to come in out of the cold and he even brought us a tray of coffee and shortbread and allowed us to stay until our bus arrived. We offered to pay for the coffee but he refused and said he was just happy to help. We were blown away by his customer service and are already planning a return trip to actually stay in the hotel. Thanks again Paul!

Lovely old place. Bedroom was very clean and comfortable though mattresses a little too firm. Staff very friendly and approachable and helpful. Big sweeping staircase to the upper floors. Loved our stay here. Room rate very reasonable. Would definitely return.

We had two rooms and stayed for one night. The building is a beautiful old-style hotel with large comfortable rooms. Interesting just to walk round the public areas - a very impressive ballroom, impressive staircase and quirky lift. Lovely full cooked breakfast and an evening meal in the adjoining restaurant. The staff were very friendly and I would love to return.
