Green Dragon, Welton by Marston's Inns

I never thought we would sample food so bad. We invited friends over for the weekend from the Wirral and decided to take them to the Green Dragon in Welton. Idyllic in its setting, a great location within the village. You can imagine our embarrassment, having invited friends to dine with us when the food came it was stone cold, the food was not edible ! We are great lovers of the traditional sunday roast, but we did not expect raw carrots, rock hard Yorkshire puddings and leathery beef, cold plates and cold food. I have given a 1 star rating for the establishments setting.

A lovely historic inn in a lovely village. Met some family members here, who live locally, and we had a lovely family dinner and catch up. Food was lovely and I was surprised to find that it was a Marstons inn and not a stand alone establishment so praise must go to the chef and team. Interior of the inn is lovely and I bet its really good at Christmas all decked out.

Chose this over the nearby Premier Inn - both almost exactly the same price. Staff are really friendly and welcoming. My room was nice with a decently sized, comfortable bed. Breakfast was hit and miss - decently priced but quality and quantity definitely varied depending on how late into the breakfast shift I went. Go early for best food! The bathroom was relatively clean, although did have a small amount of mould and rust around the bath (which was a good size). However, I wouldn't stay again. The rooms were not insulated at all. The footsteps from the room above were extremely loud, I could actually make out the words of their conversation. At one point during the night one of the occupants coughed so loudly it jolted me awake. The sounds from their bathroom were directly over the bed, plus you could hear the water running down the pipes once they were...um...done. Unpleasant when you're trying to sleep! I was also woken up very early by the upstairs occupants getting up and ended up having to resort to noise cancelling headphones. In the breakfast room I also heard other guests complaining of the same issue. Next time I'll go to the Premier Inn at least their rooms are sound proofed to a reasonable degree.

Very friendly service from all members of staff we encountered. Excellent evening meal. Breakfast adequate but less finesse.

Food and staff first class as usual on all 3 nights. Room basic but clean.However the infrastructure needs some serious TLC. Paint would be a great idea. Windows - where to start ? Look as if they were installed when Dick Turpin was arrested (1738). Building fabric falling apart. Wake up Marstons ! You are ruining a great venue through penny pinching.

Great pub stopover, just off the A63. Friendly staff, super pub-grub and very comfy, spacious rooms. Best to reserve a table if you want to eat as it's a very popular local! Parking can be a bit hit & miss but if you get there early, there's no problem. The spaces are quite small though!

Our second time here, first time amazing and a pleasant stay this time. Just a few gripes, the room was comfortable and the bed extra comfy. The window unfortunately was black with mold, the are the original windows but they would benefit from a thorough clean. The bathroom ceiling was peeling off in places and the glass shelf was missing in the bathroom. Unfortunately the opposite bedroom had their tv on all night otherwise there would be complete silence. The room we were in this time started to look tired but this didn’t spoil our stay.
