The location is convenient, about forty minutes drive from Dublin city centre. The hotel is clean and comfortable, Check in is very fast and the service is good. The swimming pool and sauna facilities are perfect. Enjoyed a delicious and rich breakfast. Will definitely come again next time.

Booked The Johnstown Estate for a Babymoon last weekend. Everything was great until we had the evening meal. We had spent the afternoon in the Spa, which was lovely. Had a massage and used the Rooftop Thermal Spa. All really enjoyable. Our room was very nice, made all the better with surprise treats that my Mam had arranged for our special night away. Went for dinner in the Coach House. I ordered the fish and chips and I was shocked with what arrived. The fish looked vile. The coating was doughy (not crispy) and when I cut into it, it was like rubber, the inside was grey and it looked like tuna. Being 35 weeks pregnant, straight away I was afraid to eat the fish. This is when the trouble began...... I told the waitress, I wasn't happy with the fish and it wasn't edible , she was apologetic and took the fish away, she said she would speak to her Manager. She then came back and offered us complimentary drinks or deserts as an apology, to which we said, "we will have the brownies". The Manager dropped one brownie to our table, said nothing about the fish or apologised and walked away. We were surprised it was just one brownie but at that stage I had lost my appetite and wasn't really bothered. The meal wasn't what I had hoped it would be. So we decided to pay and leave. On settling the bill, we realised the fish had been charged for. We brought it to the Waitress' attention and she said 'you got the desert instead of the fish". We thought the price of the fish would have been removed from the bill and that the brownie was complimentary for the ruined meal and evening. Again the waitress went to speak with her Manager and came back with an updated bill which we paid. On checking the bill, they had taken off the fish but added the complimentary desert to our bill. At this stage, I just wanted to leave the restaurant, the evening had been totally spoiled and I was upset, as this was to be our last night away before our baby arrives. It was very petty and completely unprofessional the way the Manager handled the situation. We had only booked one night there which we had hoped would be really special. We had booked massages and were looking forward to a relaxing night away and now I feel totally let down. We will not get that night again. I did ring the hotel and spoke to Cian, the duty manager, who said "I have spoken to the Bar Manager and told them that it was not how we deal with things here". I was told by Cian that if I come back again, there will be a note on my booking, whatever that means!

Want to give them the benefit of the doubt and say our weekend had potential to be better than it was if not for multiple hens and a wedding taking place. If informed beforehand of said events, we would have rescheduled. When I informed reception of the terrible night sleep because room was boiling and it was too loud to have windows open, they weren’t as helpful as I had hoped. Bar staff seemed very careless at their job as we had to ask for same things multiple times and it was always difficult to get their attention to begin. Also can’t understand why the hotel claim to have smart tvs that is just access to 20+ channels - many that don’t work and others that lose signal. Nothing else smart about it. My wife had a spa package which 2 days later she is telling people how amazing it was so if staying I would recommend. Beds were so cozy, battered fish was best I’ve had as was their tiramisu(outside of Italy) hence why I think we could have had a lovely weekend in different circumstances

The hotel is lovely but the lodges did not follow the standard of the hotel. My little one dropped marker under the couch and it was really dirty and there seemed to be some problem with the thermostats in our lodge so the shower/bath didn't work. The decor was also a little shabby and dated. Unfortunately I was a bit underwhelmed... The hotel itself was lovely though and the breakfast was really good... There was a nice playground for our kiddies and the pool was also quite nice (again could do with a little maintenance but the kids loved it).

Attended a wedding and stayed overnight. Only gave 4 for sleep quality as there was a generator or some other machine running in the background. Stayed in room 106.

I visited the hotel last Sunday. I did not have a booking. Was told there was no availability for evening meal in the bar even though it wasn’t busy and there was a number of free tables. I have tried many weekend nights to book a meal but locals don’t seem to feature, they are held for residents. Too many good restaurants locally to bother trying again for any meal.
