We stayed for a hen weekend Denise and Paul couldn’t do enough to make us welcome and nothing was to much trouble great place to stay locals very friendly we had great nights in the pub we booked in April which included breakfast but new owners didn’t take over till May so this is the mix up with people being upset with breakfast not included now don’t let that put you off it’s the only place to stay in Matching Tye and we will definitely be back also Angie the bar manager is a must to meet she kept us entertained all evening x Thank you to all staff and management we will be back xxxxx

We stayed here for one night as attending a local wedding. The rooms were very comfortable and the customer service was outstanding. When we couldn't get a taxi to the next village the chef, Jamie, kindly gave us a lift. His breakfast was also delicious, freshly cooked and piping hot. Big thanks to Angie as well for looking after us. It is so refreshing to be on the receiving end of such genuine hospitality.

My family and friends booked a surprise Hen party weekend for me. The Fox was ideal. The rooms are spotless, comfy beds, newly decorated at a high standard. The food is good, and everyone is so helpful and friendly. Angie the bar Manager is a star, and made our nights in the bar so special. The new owners Paul and Denise couldn’t do enough to make our stay so relaxing and enjoyable. Thanks for the lift Paul and Denise for making sure that we all got back to our rooms safely when we were a bit tipsy. Good luck with your new venture we will definitely be back to see you again 🥂❤️

Fabulous place to stay, the rooms are lovely and the staff very friendly and helpful. We were here for two nights for a hen weekend and could not fault them at all. Would definitely recommend this place to stay if you are in the area. Angie the bar manager was lovely as were all the staff we spoke to and the new management very friendly. The food was lovely and a great service. The rooms are behind the pub in a courtyard setting with everything you could possibly need including air conditioning. The towels are soft and fluffy and there are tea making facilities and a mini fridge in every room. The rooms are modern and very clean.

When we booked the price was inclusive of breakfast however we found out 72 hrs before check in that they would not provide breakfast. I don’t think they would have bothered to tell us at all if we hadn’t enquired about vegan options. They offered no price reduction and it was too late notice for us to find alternative accommodation. The room cleaning, replacement towels, tea bags etc didn’t happen every day, only when it suited them.

Fantastic little country inn with immaculate facilities. A really lovely, peaceful place to stay. The pub & rooms were immaculate & modern. Lovely clean bedding & nice hot showers too. The pub is separated from the room area so it’s quiet in rooms. The staff were lovely, friendly & knowledgeable. It’s in a great location close to North Weald Airfield & Stansted Airport. We stayed for our evening meal at the pub as we liked the menu offerings & we were not disappointed. The food was lovely & well presented with a good choice of drinks offered. We will visit again as it was a pleasant stay & close to both Stansted Airport & North Weald Airfield.

I haven't had an overnight stay in an actual pub in many a long year..but on the way back from an antiques hunting trip to Lincolnshire, my wing-man & I wanted somewhere to stop over on the way back to Hampshire, that was near to Sawbridgeworth's myriad Antiques Centres on the Herts/Essex border, so we could drop in there on the last day of our 'hunt..! ....and a Google search showed up the Fox Inn in Matching Tye as offering accommodation.. and being about a 15 minute drive from that locale.. a booking was made. Glad it was, for when we bowled up on a dark, cold early Winter's evening, (unusual for us as our annual trip is usually in Spring or high Summer, to what appeared to be a completely blacked-out village..no street lights in this neck of the woods!.. The Fox appeared shut..but a knock on the front door elicited a warm welcome from the young landlord. We were quickly show our rooms..a smashing modern wooden 'stable block' out back with a range of very comfortable & spotlessly clean rooms..and once we had mastered the central hearing fans in each of our rooms... very warm too, on such a cold evening! The interior of the pub itself, when we went in for our evening meal, was cracking: all wood & low oak-beamed ceilings..just as an old Essex pub should look. 👌 A superb plate of fish & chips later was followed by a very friendly hour or two at the bar, ( the pub is a Free House, which is always a bonus), and, coming from one very small village as I do, I felt very much at home & most welcome in this small village pub. Breakfast, back in the bar after a comfortable night, was also most enjoyable: well prepared, hot & served with a flourish and this certainly set us up for the return home leg of our trip via the nearby Sawbridgworth Antiques Emporia.. All-in-all, a smashing overnight stay at a most welcoming pub, thank you so much! 👍

Stayed at this place to attend a family wedding nearby. Cannot fault it the rooms where clean well decorated and spacious they are in the form of small chalets behind the main building and have everything you would require for a comfortable stay including air-conditioning which was good in the hot weather. A continental breakfast is included in the room but we decided to take advantage of the restraunt for a cooked breakfast at extra cost and could not fault it nor could we fault the evening meal we had on our day of arrival. The food was excellent and the staff outstanding nothing was too much trouble and they couldn't have been more pleasant . All in all couldn't have asked for anything more for the price . Would definitely recommend a visit to this quaint little pub / hotel

We hired 5 rooms to attend a local wedding. The rooms were great. Clean, comfy and well-priced. Nice and quiet at night. All the staff were fabulous. Food in the pub was lovely. Breakfasts were very tasty too. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it! Thank you!
