Lovely stay at the City Gate hotel; great location and room was lovely! Nice bar area and good food in the pub too.

Value for money indeed. Never expect such a spacious and well-refurbished room at such an amazing price. Would recommend it to anyone who visit Exeter since it’s located exactly at the city centre and within 10 or 15 minutes walk from both railway stations.

We must have been out of luck based off others reviews. We were in room 2. Window overlooking Iron Bridge, which is no major problem as its vehicle restricted and is therefore not noisy. Unfortunately the guests above us and beside us were. Upstairs must have brought their gym equipment and worked out all night. Beside us were enjoying Freshers Week and partied until the rubbish trucks began their tour of Exeter emptying bins. On top of this our beds were not very comfortable either… so I don’t know. Just not a great night. On the positive side, the compact bathroom had great water pressure, shower gels etc and the towels were good quality. The coffee machine was good quality and there were loads of good quality tea bags etc. We will give it another try away from Freshers Week to see if our experience was an outlier…

The decor is really nice and the beds were so comfortable, everyone I went with all said the same about there beds. I can't comment on the bar area as didn't get a chance to sit in there but that looked like a lovely place to chill. Great location for centre of city.

Staff 100% very friendly and helpful. Breakfast 10/10 - loved the homemade granola.Comfortable bed, great bedding, towels and Bramley products. Quiet and convenient, close to 2 stations, parking and cathedral. Garden and conservatory dining. Sunday lunch and bar. Perfect for short break. Had everything we needed.

First of all the property was amazing. The pub/restaurant was cozy and beautiful. Our room was comfortable and very clean.
The staff were very attentive and helpful. We had issues with our tv and also transportation issues due to train strikes. The staff helped us immediately and made our stay very enjoyable.
Lastly, the breakfast was amazing. Thank you !!

I hope my clickbait title has you reading this as my stay here was exceptional apart from the smallest of issues. The room was spacious and very well equipped and the breakfast was easily one of the best I’ve experienced in my travels apart from…. The menu stated my selection came with sour dough and it came with an equally nice toasted white bloomer….so a very minor fault indeed. Stay here, you won’t regret it.
