My wife and I have been fortunate enough to have stayed at several Small Luxury Hotels (SLH) of the World in recent years. Upon arrival at Chateau De Fere, we realized that by comparison, it had not yet reached its 5 star status. However, it seems they are working on it, and once it is completely renovated, it will definitely merit a 5 star. The property is absolutely gorgeous, with its surrounding rolling hills and vineyards. It even has the ruins of an old castle, which you can visit. As far as location, you are less than 50 minutes from the major cities and towns in the area and just an hour away from the CDG Airport in Paris. As for the Chateau itself, you will be taken back to that time period as the decor provokes an old world feeling. If you like that old castle charm and look, then you will feel right at home. The staff was very friendly, kind, and always eager to help with restaurants, nearby places to visit, and Champagne tour reservations. When we arrived, we were upgraded to a higher category room. This room, which was on the 3rd floor was clean and appeared to have been recently updated with regards to wallpapers and curtains. However, the rugs in the rooms, stairwell, and common areas seem to be pending an update. Once that part of the refurbishing is done, it will definitely enhance the overall look and atmosphere of the rooms and hotel in general. The bathroom in our room was very clean and spacious, yet the fixtures were also dated, thus in need of changing to complete the room renovations. It’s important to note that the rooms, at least those in the castle, do not have air conditioning. For us, that was not an issue since we were there in early spring when the temperatures were quite cold, so it was comfortable indoors without AC. Not sure how that would play out during the summer months. On the main floor they have a bar, two large sitting areas and a very formal dinning room serving as a restaurant for both breakfast and dinner. The dinning as well as other common sitting areas are all furnished with antiques, and have bold dark colors and wood tones giving it a very sophisticated, old world ambiance. As for the food, we did not have an opportunity to eat there as we were leaving early in the mornings and coming back late in the evenings. We will definitely return to Château Fere in the future as it has the potential to be quite a jewel.

very pleasant and professional staff, very comfortable room, superb setting and buffet breakfast consistent with the price. Contrary to some reviews, we were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant menu seemed unattractive for the price.

The welcome within the castle was more than exceptional. From our arrival until our departure, the staff took great care of us, with a kindness that was both sincere and professional. The restaurant was tasty, the service impeccable, the head waiter has great expertise. We were able to enjoy a lovely walk around the surrounding area as well as in the ruins, the director was able to guide us so that we made the most of our walk. The spa area was really nice. We had a wonderful weekend with our baby, thank you to the entire Château de Fère team.

Very satisfied. Monique Olivier was SO nice, the staff were TOO. The food was really good and the stay was very pleasant, it felt good to get out of the Paris region. I will simply say that I couldn't complain as a good French woman. I missed it, can’t wait for Paris!

I decided to book a “premium” room in this superb castle to celebrate my partner’s birthday as well as our 10 years of love. We were captivated by the beauty of the place. Arrival is by passing a majestic gate overlooking the ruins. We were quickly taken care of and put at ease by the employees. The latter are omnipresent in order to satisfy our slightest desires. The place is, obviously, splendid, full of charm and authenticity. Our room was simply perfect with a shower, a bath and a very (very) large bed. There is a great calm there, which is very soothing. We had booked an hour of SPA, the latter was also very good. It includes sauna, Hammam and a large hot tub. I would just note that the sauna door rubs against the floor, which risks damaging it... Breakfast is buffet style where, as usual, the employees bend over backwards for us. If everything is not spread out on the central table, it is simply to preserve the freshness or heat of the dish. So you just have to ask the waiters what you want: butter, hot chocolate, fried eggs... it's really possible to have it all. This is a positive point because it allows you to eat “hot” and not have an omelette that has remained “stagnant” for 2 hours for example. Regarding the visit to the ruins, it does not take a lot of time, but it is still an activity to do. We did it in the rain but, here too, the establishment is proactive and offers umbrellas. As an area for improvement, I would say that the hotel could offer more “indoor” activities like a game of billiards, for example. Finally, the prices are equivalent to that of a five star hotel. So you shouldn't be surprised to pay €7 for your coke... In conclusion, we enjoyed our stay, we thank the friendly staff and will come back in the spring to, we hope, take advantage of nicer weather and a bike ride in the 70 hectare estate surrounding the castle.
