came to stay a few weeks ago, the bar staff were miserable and looked like they didn’t want to be there. i was showed to a room which was old and tatty, the shower was awful and there was no hot water. apparently the boiler was broken but they didn’t attempt to let customers know on arrival. no breakfast, just a prepackaged old muffin. there was a note saying they do breakfast bags but when i asked for this they said they don’t do them. i went down for dinner and it was average, the plate was cold and the cutlery was marked and not matching. there was no heating which made it very cold. i won’t be coming back, recommend to be avoided at all costs.

Popped in our way passed for a light lunch Not much choice on the menu for a light lunch plus lots of shortages We ordered the same time as a family of 4, we had only ordered mains and the family of 4 ordered starters We waited over 40 mins when the family of 4’s starters arrived you would think our mains would come next but no The family of 4 got they mains then ours came Very disappointed with what we got I ordered ham egg and chips My partner had chicken burger and chips My egg was over cooked the ham was not a nice piece of freshly cut bread ham but a small bacon chop and chips were cold The chicken burger was greasy missing the red cabbage slaw Salt sellers were empty on 3 tables Was asked if everything was ok but didn’t want to say as would of probably waited another 49 mins plus for them to fix it

On a canal barge, so walked up the pub on a Sunday evening, for drinks and supper Not greatly busy, but staff were welcoming, friendly and attentive Chicken Schnitzel for two of us, Veggie Wellington and a Chicken & Ham Hock pie. All very good Good drink selection, not too pricey, cash tips only Very pleased

This was probably one of the worst places we have spent anywhere in the world. This is what was wrong: 1) The Bathroom: No HOT water due to problems but was not fixed over 2 days. No empathy from the management in the beginning of complaining but the manager did apologise later. After travelling 24 hours all we wanted was a warm shower - tepid at best! Then to make it worse: No toilet paper holder; Mirror was so high above the sink you had to be over 6ft tall; Only 1 x towel rail; the shower knob on tap was stuck due to calcium build up; Fan not working (illegal?); no where to put our toiletries except the floor (should have a shelf above the sink at least); no waste basket. 2) The Room - it was not serviced during our 2 day stay - we were informed by their management that they only service rooms if requested!! Only 3 hangers in the Wardrobe for 2 x persons; Carpet was dirty; light bulb exposed with no lamp shade! REALLY!! 3) However, the bed was comfy, the sheets and towels were good and each bedsIde has 2 x USB ports for device charging. BUT - FOR 100 UKP PER NIGHT THIS WAS NOT WORTH IT AND SHOULD BE AVOIDED.

We only had dinner here but what a meal it was, I had the steak and ale pie with accompanied buttered veg, it was the best pie I've ever had, my husband had the slow cooked lamb with buttered veg (the gravy was amazing) we also had the amazing proper sticky toffee pudding (WOW) can't say enough good things about the food. Keep up the great work you all do. lovely friendly staff, nice and clean. if you're over that way definitely pop in as you won't be disappointed.

We were on route back from London and checked online that they would still be open as we passed. Arrived at 3.05 and was greeted by someone at bar then ignored. We followed him round bar and asked if we just grab table to order food only to be informed they stopped serving early due to be down a chef. Was a bit annoying as living in Wiltshire we often said when driving past that we should try that place out. I know people would not update website on fly but just made us think to not bother next time

A pub with rooms. Decent sized rooms but really need some TLC. Shower not good at all. Barely a trickle and VERY difficult to adjust. Bed OK, pillows too thick (for me - why do places provide multiple pillows all same thickness and cover the bed in 1000 cushions which you don't need and cannot ever use ??). Paper thin walls and I do mean paper thin. You’ll hear a mouse sneeze !! The Scottish chaps in adjacent room woke us up at 06.00 with their talking and then pacing up & down and up & down and up & down until 07.45. I even went and knocked on their door to ask if they could quieten down but didn’t get an answer. Staff nice and friendly. Beer & wine prices OK. We didn’t eat (they don’t do breakfasts) and what we saw of others eating it looked like a lot of fried food (but may have just been what those diners wanted anyway).

We've been visiting The Pelican for years and have always recommended it to others, but our last three visits have been really disappointing, so we won't be coming back anymore. On our last visit, even though the pub wasn't busy, we waited 30 minutes just to get our drinks and place our order. The manager was being very rude to another staff member, which made the atmosphere uncomfortable. We then waited another 40 minutes before our starters were cleared. The food was way too salty and just not good, especially considering the cost. There was no customer service to speak of—no apologies for the wait, no one checked on us, and it was clear we didn't eat most of our food. We also heard other customers around us complaining about their food and service. The general vibe in the place was very sad. Overall, we're really disappointed.

Not for the first time, I arranged lunch for a group of c. 25 (adults) after a run/walk in the surrounding countryside. Each person attending chose a meal from the menus in advance, so that all the lunches were pre-ordered a few days before. On the day people bought a drink and paid for their lunch before we sat down to eat at 13.15 - and out came the food, four dishes at a time, so that everyone was eating together. All the food met with approval - I'd chosen an excellent sausage & mash - and there were particularly favourable comments on the dressed green salad and the Welsh rarebit served with the soup, so a good time was had by all. There was only one cask beer available, but at 3.4% Black Sheep Bitter was a good choice for those having to drive home afterwards. Well done, Team Pelican: I shall be back, as I'm sure will others of our party!
