After a 4 hour flight we were taken to this hotel which is about a 45 min stroll on the promenade to Funchal. There was a courtesy bus but not needed. Opposite the hotel is a mall with supermarket, clothes stores and eateries. The newsagent sells Giro cards for the buses. For €5 daily you can use the public transport for as many trips as you like. Simple load the card. You pay extra for the suburban ticket that takes you farther. In the opposite direction, again a 45-1 hour walk, you arrive at the fishing village. We caught a taxi from there up to the skywalk. We walked back down the many stepped corridors through the farms back to the centre. Our knees were wobbly by this time as the descent had taken about an hour. Enjoyed coffee and Bolas on the entire holiday. A ride up the mountain on cable car is well worth it with spectacular views of Funchal. Pick a clear day. The small cafe just near the toboggans provided pan pipe music and delicious cappuccinos as we enjoyed the vista and watched the men in pin*****e suits guiding the toboggans down the steep slopes. We returned by cable car. If its not busy, you can just wait for an empty car and hop in with just your crew. We enjoyed having it to ourselves. A visit to the Ronaldo museum was OK, a bit pricey for the entrance. They should have shown his best goals on a reel but nothing like that. Just saw trophies and pics. The botanical hardens were not in full bloom due to time of year but were pleasant to walk around. There is a museum there too with stuffed animals. A walk through the town is very pleasant. Live bands can be very entertaining on a Saturday afternoon. Hotel room was spacious replete with a mini kitchen, fridge, crockery and cookware. We had the garden view where it was quieter though I couldn't compare. Breakfast had great variety. Many lines. No complaints. The swimming pool was heated and there was a sauna too. Huge towels are provided. There is also an outdoor pool.

A lot to like about this hotel. It's a great base in a prime location, maybe a 20 minute walk to Funchal city centre. However the street the hotel is on has a number of decent bars and restaurants even more locally, with a nice promenade and lido area only 5-10 mins walk down the hill the other way. We stayed all inclusive and the food we felt was of a very good standard, if only lacking a little in choice, however; understandable for a hotel of this size and the fact we have two fussy eating children. The pool areas and gardens are pretty clean and the suite was of a good size for our family of four. We didnt use the spa or gym facilties but both looked to be of decent standard for this type of accomodation. The staff were in large very helpful and courteous around the main restaurant, reception and 1st floor bar area. Some of the staff around the pool areas weren't always most pleasant, however I understand some guests can also be very rude. The kids were very happy around the pool areas and with their stay, there is not a lot of water attractions or evening entertainment but we didnt go for that on this break. So the hotel may be of strong 3 star standard based on facilities, however we would give it 4 stars if only for based on our positive experience during our half term stay.

This is a very good hotel and we would stay here again. WET AREA Indoor pool This is a great addition to the hotel and is kept at a perfect temperature with jets. It is semi-indoor so great on overcast days. Never too busy. The highlight of our stay. Outdoor pool Quite cool, but when complimented with the indoor pool, this is fine. It's a bit shallow but I imagine this is just how the hotel is built. Never too busy. Sunbeds More than enough, very comfy and clean. No need to reserve/scramble. Spa Massages available at a good price. Sauna and steam room free of charge, although the hotel doesn't advertise this very well. Snack bar Nice sandwiches, if a little overpriced. Could do with more variety of food. Great selection of drinks/cocktails as reasonable prices. Seems a bit silly that you can't pay by card. BREAKFAST A fantastic variety of tasty food; cooked, continental, cereals and pancakes. Lots of fresh fruit. We had one negative experience with a rude waiter; we were trying to take a banana and some bread each, as we knew we would be missing the breakfast (that we had paid for) the following day, due to an early hike. Before we could explain this, we were berated at length in front of half of the restaurant, even after apologising. This was unnecessarily embarrassing and marred our first day. Granted, we should have double checked the rules beforehand (we have stayed in places where this is allowed, in moderation), but, in our view, there was no need for such a public display. BUFFET We only had this once, but we felt that, for 30 euros, it was a bit underwhelming and drinks should have been included. STAFF Apart from the one exception above, we felt all the staff were a credit to the hotel, and very friendly and helpful. A special shout-out to Caterina and one barman's name whose name we regrettably didn't catch. LOCATION Buses to Funchal just outside. Close to supermarket and restaurants. Nice park and restaurant next door. ROOMS Very clean, spacious and good facilities. A bit dark at times. Good aircon. Free safe for valuables. TIPS - Rent a car with Auto Rent A Car - great service and friendly staff - Luggage room available free of charge - If hiking to Pico Ruivo, you really don't need a guide. The route is clear and is almost always busy. GetToHikes bus transfers are recommended and stop near the hotel.

I would have rated this hotel more if it wasn't for the fact that there was no air conditioning. Our room had a fan that broke and part of it fell off (thankfully not when we were in bed) the fan in the bathroom wasn't working the full week we were there despite reporting it more than once to reception. The food was good. There was a good choice and the staff there were friendly for the most part. Unfortunately some weren't approachable, but most were very helpful. Two lifts seemed to be running, but never always at the same time as there seemed to be maintenance there a lot. I would strongly suggest that the hotel itself make everyone aware upon arrival that they charge per bottle of TAP water at the end of your stay. This was never made clear to us until we checked out. Coffee was only available in the morning with breakfast but there was a charge out with breakfast hours. Another suggestion to the hotel, if you are advertising a kitchenette area, at the very least have tea and coffee available for guests in every room. I would also like to point out that on the internet and on the bathroom mirror there are very outdated charges when it comes to towel hire for the pool area. It states on the sign in our hotel room that towel hire is €1 per person. This is now €25 deposit per person which I think is a bit steep regardless of getting your money back. Please change this so future guests do not get confused with misinformation that should be a priority to update for paying customers at your hotel. The cleaning staff were efficient and friendly. My only qualm was one day they weren't so vigilant when it comes to bathroom towels as they swapped ours out for towels with holes and rips in them other than that I have no complaints with them. The advertisement for the rooftop bar isn't so much a bar, just empty of staff and never open, same for the bar to the left of reception. It's a shame because there's so much potential to make it better. This is just an honest upfront review. I don't mean to complain, it's more a suggestion or a nudge in the right direction for future purposes so that there's no confusion for future guests.

Overall great stay and we'll likely be back next time we visit Madeira. Great location close to lots of restaurants and bars, and bus stops. It's not too far to walk to the city center and there's lots to see on the way there, too. The rooms were clean, shampoo etc. was provided and there were even extra blankets which we were very grateful for as it can be chilly at night. What we did not enjoy that much was the breakfast, as both restaurants serve about the same food and it was the same every morning. The taste was ok but we probably won't add breakfast the next time we stay, or not for all days. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful, however, the hotel appeared to be understaffed, meaning we'd have to wait quite a bit to receive service, e.g., at the reception, and staff seemed stressed at times.

We have been going to this hotel since 2019 so it must be doing something right. Dalia, who we reserve with every time, is meticulous and keeps us notified and informed every step of the way. Graca, Nadia and Bruno on reception are excellent and know the answer to everything. Ademar, Nelio, Marta, Magda and Sao make every visit to the bar or restaurant a pleasure and everyone else that you don't see as much of combine to make each stay perfect. The location and views are stunning and the value for money is exceptional. Having read some other reviews by guests this year i have to agree that there are pigeons all over Madeira and that includes around the hotel but they are quite friendly and if you have a phobia it may not be the right island for you. The hotel exterior is not in a state of disrepair and the missing plaster on the front of the building is not a part of the Regency Cliff but belongs to the apartments above.
