The Ship Inn

We stayed for three nights and used the Ship Inn as a base for exploring the area. As a base, this worked well for us. The hotel was generally good but there were a few things that could have improved our stay. Positives: Pleasant situation in attractive village; Size of room and facilities; Standard of evening meal when we ate in the hotel on one evening was very good. Room for improvement: I was advised that the heating is regulated centrally. On one evening/morning I found both the bedroom and bathroom cold but was unable to put on any heating; The hotel seemed to be understaffed at times and sometimes members of staff didn’t seem to know what to do; I found the Scottish breakfast to be very oily and the fruit offering was poor. Coffee at breakfast was served in a pot and was much inferior to that offered from the coffee machine. Housekeeping - on day 2, we returned to find that the duvet had been merely pulled over the bed. The bottom sheet had not been touched. These criticisms are fairly minor and could easily be addressed with greater attention to detail. If I was in the area again, I would probably stay again.

You simply MUST go to this wonderful boutique hotel in wonderful Gatehouse with its beer garden on the bank of the Fleet....ambience/staff/food/service/rooms all FANTASTIC!!.....No fault can be found....what else can we say?? Mary & Steve Fraser

A very welcoming and friendly place, with people who cannot do enough for you. The decor ,linens etc are of high quality. A most comfortable bed and luxurious bathroom. Great meals for breakfast and dinner. Book a table for dinner it’s always full.

Exceptional services beautiful clean hotel friendly staff felt very welcomed , food amazing can’t fault any thing they had on offer. the village is stunning would like to return for a few days at some point to explore the area some more as we’re only passing through for an over night stay

The staff were very helpful and friendly and the Inn is modern and well maintained. There is a lovely garden across the (very quiet) road where food and drink will be brought to you if you wish. The food is tasty and generous - a good variety. Our bedroom was not spacious but adequate for us and our two dogs! We much enjoyed our time there.

Lovely hotel stayed 2 nights. Room was clean and spacious. Ate in the restaurant. Meal was tasty but portions were rather small in comparison to the prices. Just a shame some of the staff need a course in customer service. Left feeling that our presence was rather inconvenient.

Great stay, lovely staff, had dinner & breakfast which were great. Stayed with 3 families, 14 of us. Very comfortable beds and great showers. A great base to explore the surrounding areas. Beer garden down to the river for drinks in the sun, perfect.

Beautiful and friendly wee hotel with great food. The room cleaning service could have been better as previous residents shorts were found in the bed. This was a very minor issue on an otherwise great trip. Beer garden is also a fantastic facility.
