Ocean House Hotel at Bass Rocks

Stayed here for a fall mini getaway at a nice hotel.Beautiful view of the ocean. Lovely breakfasts are included .

Been coming to hotel for 20+ years. Overall service and cleanliness has sadly gone downhill since the hotel was family owned. On this trip, room was not cleaned one night, sour milk at breakfast, no hot water on day of departure. Signs of being understaffed every time we visit and turnover is very high. Staff aren’t empowered to address issues - they just say they are doing their best. Location is great and beds are comfy. I will miss this place but will try the Atlantis next year - located next door.

This may be the worst debacle I ever encountered. If I could give a Minus rating I would. Called day before. Checkout at 11 we asked to check in around 1 when we got here. Check out at 11. We had the most expensive room - king suite ocean view. We have a rehearsal dinner to attend we need to get ready and unpack. Meanwhile it's a 2 night minimum stay. Not ready at 115 when we got here. Ok. We took my 85yr old mother to lunch then dropped her at the Castle Hill Inn. Her room was ready. No call ahead. Headed back for 3. Still no room. He Wasn't sure if it was cleaned yet. (How about calling someone). My sister got here at 230 - she's already settled in her room. The desk man said that we would get the first suite ready. Meanwhile I watch a KID carry up load after load to his room. IT WAS THE FIRST SUITE READY!!! We were here HOURS before him. Ugh. Never ever again. It was insulting. ! We are frequent Marriott (Bonvoy) platinum and know how to travel. This is completely insane. I would never recommend or return Ocean House. Absolutely awful customer service. Dismissive, non responsive inept staff.

Not worth the price! Even if it was free. Old run down motel at best. Would not recommend staying here other than the location. The location isn’t enough to overcome the experience.

Killer views but pretty small rooms with even smaller bathrooms.....the decor was nice but the space for storage and luggage is minimal.

This was our second stay at this hotel, and we absolutely love it! The ocean view is stunning, and the atmosphere is peaceful and intimate. The rooms are cozy, making it the perfect place to relax and unwind.

Sent the hotel: We normally stay at Atlantis but have wanted to try Bass Rocks since we’ve seen it for 20 years next door. Atlantis is pristine, clean, and has super-friendly staff. Our room 222 at Bass Rocks had huge gouges in the door like someone had tried to pry their way in. There was hair left in the bathroom. Mold around the edge of the bathroom tub. And mold on the bottom of the curtain at the sliding glass door to the balcony. The balcony chairs were old and too low to the ground. There were wires running through the closet, and although an in-room safe was advertised, there was none. And we were charged $22 per day for an “activity fee”. We were not even told at reception about the bikes available, and quite honestly we should not have to pay extra for use of the pool and fire pit. They should be included with the room. We did like the sliding glass door going to the balcony, the fire pit, and the chairs and space across the road so you can relax and watch the ocean. Overall, your hotel charges higher prices than Atlantis, and includes a ridiculous “activity fee” on top of the room cost, a dirtier experience, a smaller room than Atlantis, and not as good of an experience. We have been visiting Gloucester for 20 years and have had other hotel experiences and know people who have stayed elsewhere and had a much better time. It is back to Atlantis for our annual visits.

Front desk service appeared to be very new and clueless. Housekeeping staff was not able to get the rooms cleaned by 4:00 check in time. Short staffed and it showed.

Everything was easy...booking, check in, check out. All employees we encountered were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was awesome!
