Shoreline Inn

I really wanted to give a higher rating, the location is convenient and the view is great. The hotel, while dated, was clean enough and provided a bed for us to sleep in with a functional TV. We did not have a parking spot our first night, but there was a party and just about everyone cleared out by evening and everything that way was ok. The problem I have is with the payment. I was billed back in March despite being told on ******* I would be billed at check in. I was billed again in July after my stay was complete. The initial “authorization charge” has not been refunded despite two employees saying otherwise and it has been almost a month. I have sent an email to the hotel hopefully to remedy this, and they advised I file a dispute with my bank. They said “duplicate charges may happen because we have a payment network that we don’t have contact with anymore”. I have been wrangling with the bank for over a month to get that money back. Save your hard earned funds, stay somewhere else! Out almost $700 still today as of 9/5 for what should have been a nice and relaxing birthday trip! On 9/4, Shoreline Inn charged an additional $88.43 to my card with no explanation or notice. Do not stay here. If you must, use a credit card and be ready for a fight to get funds back if they double charge you for your stay like they did me. Absolutely deplorable and shady operation. Complaint filed with the FTC and BBB.

My wife and I stayed 3 nights, arriving before 3PM to a welcoming receptionist who processed my payment while I filled out a liability paper, then presented a car parking permit and the electronic key. Upper superior room #211 had worn carpet, was clean with a comfortable king, table & 2 chairs and a closet with a small refrigerator. The fully outfitted bathroom had a tub/shower. The small TV had the Fire satellite guide where I selected ‘LiveTV’ for BBC, CNBC, CNN, Duluth ABC, ESPN. Good secure wifi, 2 outlets, good lighting and baseboard heat. A microwave and hot coffees were always available in the lobby. The 7AM breakfast was average with OJ, packets of applesauce/oatmeal/sweet cereals, bagels/waffles/bread to toast, and coffee. We had a great lake view through the uninsulated steel side windows but the center glass was permenantly foggy. Overall, we had a quiet night’s sleep and enjoyed our stay.

The Shoreline Inn is quaint and next to Lake Superior with gorgeous views of the lake and the surrounding shoreline. It is close to the business area and restaurants. The room was comfortable and well-appointed. It was great to be able to sleep with the windows open and hear the waves breaking on the shore and the bird cries as they flew overhead. A nice place to stay.

Very friendly and helpful staff in an ideal location but the hotel is very outdated - furnishings, beds, fixtures, etc. could use an update.

In need of repair

There was not heat in our room. It was in the 40s outside and the 50s in our room. When I asked, the hotel staff told me "they've turned off the heat for the season". They gave me a space heater that did not heat the room more than 2 degrees. We reserved for 2 nights, but left after one. I tried to communicate with Orbitz about this, see if a partial refund was possible. I got NO WHERE with them. Orbitz sucks.

Couldn't get into room. Due to bad batteries and they didnt know how to change them. Put me in another room. Same thing with the lock, i got food and beverages and the fridge didn't work , tv didnt work. Th3 person working crabbwd another tv from a different room. They did not have a streaming program. The staff used their account. This Was a awful experience! They didnt have staff to clean rooms at all while there. Want my money back !

The hotel is very old but nostalgic since it is grand Marais first hotel…great patio right on the lake and the staff was very friendly
