We stayed for a night, the welcome was very poor, the rooms are very old world charm with individual bathrooms, but these are not attached to the room. The evening meal staff were just rude, nothing else to say, obnoxious and rude with poor quality food. Breakfast was ok, but just that.

brilliant pub, great food, specials were really good for vegetarians too. Nice selection of ales. The bar is attached to the hotel and at end of the valley its a beautiful location, especially sitting outside on their many benches, a perfect stop to end at after a long walk.

The hotel has a marvellous location and we had a comfortable room with a great view. It has a certain old world charm but could do with a re-paint/deep clean. Dinner and breakfast were basic. Staff were not particularly friendly. It's a shame because it could be a great hotel with a bit more attention.

I’ve been coming here for nearly 20 years, around 2-3 times a year. On occasions I’ve stayed for a few days and other times I’ll just pop in for a few drinks and a bite. I absolutely love the it here. The beer is absolutely spot on, particularly the Loweswater Gold which is a phenomenal pint, the beer is also really well priced, a good £1 cheaper than some pubs in nearby villages. The bar staff are great, always up for a laugh and extremely knowledgeable of the local area too. Over the last few years the food choice and quality has vastly improved- it was good before but now there’s other choices available, aswell as the pub classics. The beer battered Haggis is wonderful, but I have to highly recommend the salt and pepper chicken wings, so moreish! I was last there a few days ago and had the Beef Brisket which was the best plate of food I’ve had in a while!-this is a special so may not always be available. The rooms are really comfy and offer great views, some people complain about the lack of a TV but that doesn’t bother me in the slightest, I quite like it to be honest. The WiFi is incredibly good so you can always watch something on your own device. The hotel also has an extremely good drying room, which is useful as it can rain from time to time- well there’s a reason it’s the Lake District. The owner Neil is always around giving visitors advice on walks and generally being really helpful! The regulars in the bar are also so welcoming too and are happy to talk to you about the local area! As you can probably guess, I can’t recommend the ODG highly enough! Be sure to pay them a visit next time you’re in the Langdales.

We were disappointed with our stay. The accommodation was very basic . The reception area was very uninviting. and we had to wait for about 15 minutes until someone showed up at the desk. After our walk in the beautiful surroundings we looked forward to a nice meal. There was nothing special about the food. The hotel has lots of walkers in the area and it hasn’t got much competition for the number of tourists they get so the food is typical of what to expect in a tourist trap. Passing trade and not dependent on regulars. Last orders for food 8pm. The communal area inside the hotel was dreary and gloomy. No tv in the bedrooms. We cannot remember the last time we stayed in a hotel room without a tv.

The bar man was almost comical in his levels of bad service (think Karen Diner). Maybe just having a bad day - but from the reaction of the other staff I doubt it. Shame as the food was great. The service at the new dungeon ghyll was brill despite them being very busy.

Have been calling in at this pub for many years, but it's such a shame that this lovely old place is spoiled by surly staff who seem to resent customer presence. I've never written a review before, but then again it's never been so bad as to be served a pint with the sprinkler head in it. Anyone can make a mistake, but to respond with an attempt to serve me the same pint just in a different glass with the question 'what's your problem?' and a complete lack of apology tipped me over the edge. Perhaps it was because at my first request about food, I was told that what I asked for (half rice, half chips with the curry) was a weird request by a different unsmiling barman. Needless to say, the additional beers and 2 meals we were going to buy there were bought elsewhere. The setting is excellent, the pub itself is wonderful, the beer is kept well and the food looks good, but poor customer service ruined the whole experience.

We already knew that the ODG pub was the best way to end a climb in Langdale but had no idea the hotel would be SO good! Super helpful staff, great food, comfy bed, proper old school lounge and brilliant breakfast. Traditional decor might not be to everyone’s tastes but everything was clean, nothing was too much trouble and we loved it. We’ll be back!

Well what can I say, this place is like stepping back in time in the best way possible. Came into the bar on a busy bank holiday weekend, although the staff were very busy they were incredibly welcoming. Great selection of local ales on tap and it was lovely to hear a strong Cumbrian accent and proper local words from the charming young fellow who served us, I think his name was Zac. I could have listened to him talk as he served people all day! We intended to only have one drink but ended up having quite a few more! Excellent atmosphere and when we visit the lake district again we will definitely stay here rather than the more fancy but rather soulless 'boutique hotel' we stayed at this time. A proper piece of local history in a stunning location.
