The Menhaden Hotel

Overall - 2* Rooms - 1* Service - 5* Location - 2* After reading so many 5/5 reviews, my wife and I wondered if we stayed in the same hotel. We recently returned from an extended trip to Europe and only stayed in 5 star hotels. The people who gave the Menhaden 5 stars must not know the true caliber of a 5 star facility. At most, the Menhaden rates 3 stars if you want to be overly generous. The room is extremely small. It did not even have space for a side chair, let alone a small table. There was no refrigerator, no iron or ironing board, no microwave, no workout room, no spa, and no pool - not much. The bathroom was adequate with a single sink with no shelving or countertop space. We were told we had the largest King room - number 15. The view was the parking lot. The decor is straight out of a Home Goods discount store. The staff was friendly and courteous and appeared shocked when we told them we were very disappointed with the room. The eight rooms on the third floor share a common kitchen gally. Don't expect to eat a healthy breakfast there. It is sufficient for a cup of coffee, but you will have to drink it while sitting on the edge of your bed. Go across the street to a deli for a better choice of food. The single night rate is between $650 to over $700. It is not worth it. At times, there is a two night minimum. Our stay was an anniversary gift from friends. Obviously, they never stayed at the Menhaden. We considered leaving but did not want to endure another two hour ride in traffic. My wife asked for a glass of wine and was told wine was only served by the bottle. The alternative was a 4oz. CAN of wine for $13. Spend your money elsewhere, preferably in the Hamptons on the Southfork. Greenport is a tourist destination on the Northfork of Long Island. There are better places and definitely better hotels. Stay away!

I had an amazing stay at The Menhaden. The staff were incredible, especially the GM, Mario. He truly knows what hospitality means. My room was simple and clean, just what I needed. I saw some reviews suggesting coffee and water should be in the rooms instead of the galley. I disagree. The galley is a fantastic feature. It's fully stocked, and you can grab whatever you want whenever you need it. No need to go back and forth to the desk. The cookies and milk at night are such a nice touch, and the croissants with spreads in the morning are perfect. The yogurt toppings are great too. Everything about this place is spot-on—the cleanliness, the location close to everything, the bikes, and the rooftop. I loved it all and can't wait to come back!

Comfy bed and pillows. Good quality sheets and towels. Nicely decorated room. As everyone else says, I liked the galley with coffee, tea and snacks. Handy location to LIRR, shops and eateries. Quiet room but other guests made a lot of noise in the communal hall/stair way and crashing and banging in their rooms. Helpful person at check in but when asking another staff member about making a winery reservation, he told me just to walk (3kms) there and see if I could get in. Black hairs in the bath on arrival.

I came here for a work trip for a few days - the hotel staff was lovely and I enjoyed the special touches they provided like hand towels upon arrival and warm cookies each night. The little kitchens with water and snacks and breakfast made it feel very home-y and comfortable, almost like you were at more of a bed and breakfast instead of a hotel. Very clean and photogenic, can’t wait to go back!

Can’t say enough good things about our stay at The Menhaden. Mario and his staff were personable, attentive and efficient. The rooms are a lovely combination of new and country beachy. The entire hotel is well organized and clean. The galley on each floor, providing snacks and drinks, was a wonderful extra. The location is terrific. You can walk to all that makes Greenport so special. Can’t wait for our next stay.

My recent stay at The Menhaden was nothing short of excellent. The service at The Menhaden is truly exceptional. Every staff member I encountered was not only professional but also genuinely friendly, going above and beyond to ensure my comfort and satisfaction throughout my stay. From the seamless check-in process to the personalized recommendations, every interaction was characterized by attentiveness. My room was exactly what I was looking for, a place of comfort and sophistication, with every detail carefully curated. The cafe off the lobby brewed a tasty cup of coffee and offered delicious treats and snacks. We even picked up a memento from the gift shop. Will definitely recommend and return.

Beyond fantastic experience. Being my first time in Greenport in quite some time, I was looking for a last minute local hotel downtown. The Menhaden did not disappoint. Beautifully designed. Gorgeous, luxurious rooms; high end amenities; a galley on every floor… And, the staff is top notch. This place is worth every penny, whether staying for a night or a week. Would absolutely recommend to friends and family. Looking forward to staying again on my next visit!

Walked into the hotel and not only was there no one present at the front desk but when someone finally showed up it was practically a teenager who has clearly never worked in a hotel in their life. The lack of professionalism and formality that should be expected at an "upscale" property which charges prices similar to NYC is nonexistent. Not sure who the girl was at the front desk however it is not professional to expose tattoos at a professional job like this where I am expected to pay hundreds of dollars just for one night during the off season. I do not recommend this property to anyone.
