Whilst this hotel doesn't share the same outlook as some of the larger hotels in Gretna it offers great food, friendly service and delivers great value (by the way the Blacksmith's shop is within walking distance albeit it's not just around the corner). This former officers' mess provides clean accommodation, in large rooms, both within the main building and in the extension to the rear. The hostess is very friendly, with a great sense of humour, and is more than happy to go the extra mile. Her husband is the chef and produces some really good food. Whilst the starters were great, the main course was even better. (Can I recommend that you try the 'Hunters Ultimate' homemade burger - which includes haggis). They also offer some really decent wines. T(ry the Los Picos Distantes Malbec.) We chose the dinner, bed and breakfast deal and believe that it's great value for money.

Stopped in this town on our way to Glasgow The reception was very friendly and the room was big and very clean The bed was super comfortable We had a drink in bar lounge area but only one as we was up early to carry on our journey I would definitely stay here again especially for exploring the area

Stopped in late evening without a reservation, and the host could not have been more welcoming. Kids burgers were proper high quality beef pattys, lovely coleslaw. I had veg curry with rice, very tasty with perfectly firm veg. Husband had the slow cooked beef ragu pasta, which was really good. Overall a nutritious, tasty well cooked meal, at a good price too - thank you!

Charming old hotel, we stayed in an annexe room at the back, very clean and comfortable, bath and shower. Dinner was very tasty, after dinner drinks in a very nice lounge bar, where we met fellow travellers who also enjoyed the comforts. A traditional breakfast was serve cooked fresh at our chosen time. Host was very friendly and knowledgeable of the area. Would definitely recommend.

We had a super meal here after our wedding. The food and service was excellent and the owner was extremely friendly and helpful. The choice of gins was amazing! We highly recommend this place and we'll certainly be back the next time we're in the area.

Character hotel with unique features spotlessly clean offering a very good standard of accommodation and quality oak wood panelling throughout the ground floor area run by hard working owners and nothing is too much trouble for them Excellent vast car park easy assess to bedrooms from main and side areas Well stocked bar and choice of breakfast menus choice of dinner menu items individually priced and cooked to order The bedrooms are cosy and warm with solid wood furniture and aluminium double glazed windows again spotlessly clean lots of towels and toiletries The owners care and look after their guests!

Linda was brilliant and made us very welcome. The place was spotless and the beds were really comfy; we loved the Scottish themed bedding too! We enjoyed a wonderful meal and breakfast and it was all superb and fresh produce. My daughter who is a very fussy eater said it was the best meal she’d ever had; high praise indeed!! We’ll definitely be back, thank you Linda x

This is a beautiful art deco gem of a building. The proprietors are rightly proud of it. The welcome was friendly. The food was excellent. The restaurant was nice in spite of the lack of atmosphere- we were the only ones there! The room disappointed a little. It was small, and there was nowhere to put your bags except the floor or the bed. On the plus side, it was nicely done, and had a good coffee machine and quality biscuits. The biggest negative for me was the lack of a shelf in the bathroom- the only place for my toilet bag and makeup was the floor or the toilet seat! A couple of small improvements and this would get 5 stars from me.
