Bernerhof Swiss Quality Hotel Gstaad Reviews

This hotel in 25 plus years can’t get past a 4 point review, for many reasons. Scroll the reviews if you wonder why! I understand the arrogant, pompous owners are being put out to pasture. Long overdue. Truly nasty, mean-spirited couple - oh dear… and the wife with ‘that voice’…the narcissist husband….Backstory: after spending over 30,000CHF during a 5 month stay, and weekly dinners in the Chinese Restaurant for 10 odd years, and given a letter (which I still have) to give to the Gemeinde as a reference when I first moved here, these utterly miserable pair gave me a 140CHF parking ticket for parking in their empty parking lot ‘off season’. Rotten human beings. People tell me the woman is a very jealous type. I can’t speak to that. Just know they are disliked widely. Happy to hear they are going. There will be many who will celebrate. As Friedrich Nietzsche said “People don’t want to hear the truth because they don’t want their illusions destroyed. I will continue to speak it.

Charming hotel in the centre of Gstaad with onsite parking. Check in was smooth The rooms are nice and spacious with modern bathrooms and very comfy beds Dinner outside on the terrace was lovely and had the best rosti in many years. Would advise to book the restaurant early as we missed out on our first choice although that was partly down to difficulties in communication (we don't speak German and the person didn't speak good English or French) and somewhat inattentiveness of the front desk person who knew we were deciding but chose to book a table for an outside guest right in front of us

Perfectly located 50 meters from Gstaad station and next to the promenade, this family run hotel has many advantages. Large rooms, very comfortable with a nice view for those oriented towards the Palace. Well equipped bathrooms. Largest culinary offer on Gstaad from bistronomy to local dishes , not neglecting a Chinese and an Italian restaurant. All of them well ranked in the yellow guide. Nice south facing terrace in Summer. Indoor swimming pool and a private fumoir for cigar lovers. Smiling and Professional service. Very reasonable fares for Gstaad, both for the rooms and for the restaurant including a fabulous wine list.

I stayed at The Bernerhof Hotel from 1-3 September, 2023. I reserved two rooms for my wife and I, and our two guests. We had a lovely stay. We received exceptional service from Bouchra Ftouhi at the front desk. She was incredibly helpful during our entire stay. Our guests were delayed by Zürich traffic. She helped them get their car parked, luggage handled, and helped them with late dinner arrangements. She also helped us with many little things throughout our stay, things that normally would have distracted from our positive experience. Needless to say in Switzerland, her multilingual skills were exceptional as well. The upgraded rooms on the third floor had a terrasse with a great view of the Höhi Wispile ski area. Parking was ample and simple, directly adjacent to the front door. The Bernerhof is on the car free promenade in the center of Gstaad. You can stroll for shopping, or a have a Znüni, Apero, or dinner. The hotel has four restaurants as well, with excellent food. We enjoyed going to Pernot right next door. They had an incredible selection of gourmet food and wine. The Bernerhof spa is ample and relaxing. Overall, the Bernerhof is a first class hotel at a reasonable price.

This hotel used to be a favourite for world travellers 15-20 years ago - until the manager at that time divorced his gracious and kind wife. People would return year after year. Then stepped in another woman with the same desk job. Sadly, and as a result, this hotel has in the last 15-20 years deteriorated significantly. A pity, because at one time, it really was a fantastic place to both stay at, and dine at. I used to recommend it. On our latest visit my rosti was overly salted and the salad overdressed. My partner's curry was bland and tasteless. The Italian Maitre D was very kind though and replaced the food which we couldn't eat. They have a very good wine selection. However, after numerous unpleasant encounters with an arrogant and unfriendly lady (who is apparently the wife of the owner), my partner and I decided to stop visiting this establishment, and rather switch to the many other superior options in the area where friendliness, kindness, and good food are to be found.

This hotel used to be a favourite for world travellers 15-20 years ago - until the manager at that time divorced his then lovely wife - who was gracious, refined, and charming. People would return year after year. Then stepped in this truly frightening she-devil of fiendish and malicious character. Sadly, and as a result, this hotel has in the last 15-20 years deteriorated significantly. The minute one walks in to the lobby, one is met by a nasty, hostile woman with a sour face. A black cloud hangs over this hotel now. Sad, because at one time, it really was a fantastic place to both stay at, and dine at. The food is banal and bland now, and overpriced. On my most recent visit, the rosti was overly salted and the salad swimming in dressing. The curry, bland and tasteless. The Italian Maitre D is very kind though and exchanged the food which we couldn't eat.. There is a very good wine selection. However, after being on the receiving end of sheer wickedness and hateful energy directed at me by a clearly unhappy, deeply troubled woman (after 20 years of our patronage), my partner and I decided to stop visiting this establishment, and rather switch to the many other great options in the area where human decency, humanity, quality, kindness and good food are to be found.
