We thought we would pay the extra and treat ourselves to a suite, based on the hotel website photos which show a sofa, chairs and coffee table. We were pretty disappointed with the room we were allocated. Although the room was large, the suite I was expecting only had a chair, footstool and a large round something! The view from the balcony was restricted as our room was at the side of the hotel and we overlooked the hotel outside bar rather than having a full sea view. It rained heavily on our first full day and it would have been nice to not have to sit on the bed while passing the time. I requested a room change, even to be downgraded but was told that the hotel was fully booked and nothing could be done. I had already checked the hotel website and various booking agencies which all showed availability. I met a manager later in the week, in the lift, who was shocked when I gave a negative to the question about enjoying my room. I got the usual response that they could have done something if only they had known. By then, our stay was almost over and I suggest that the front desk staff are trained to look for solutions rather than to just ignore requests. The room (suite) overall looked a little tired with lots of marks on the walls and the air conditioning was so loud that I had to wear earplugs in order to sleep. There was plenty of storage and a coffee machine but no folder with general hotel info. We therefore took a couple of attempts before successfully operating the coffee machine and failed miserably to quieten down the aircon. The bathroom had a shower, no bath but the water was hot when required. There was however, no space to put anything such as a toiletry bag. Breakfast was a bit haphazard in that food items were not replenished at times. Coffee could be made to order as well as omelettes, poached eggs etc but if you requested the orange juice dispenser be refilled or asked for a teaspoon, you were left waiting a while. I got the impression that the staff were trying to look busy rather than being well managed. The location of the hotel is ideal for bars and restaurants but not if you want a quiet area. The bus service around the island is pretty good and the water taxi to Valletta excellent.

After much deliberation for location and hotel for our stay in Malta we chose 'The Regency Plaza, Sliema*' and after a fantastic week here we know that we chose well. Very happy with the hotel from the reception - happy to help with anything and everything, baggage storage (until our room was ready), our room, the bed, the view, the pool (outdoor one is blooming cold but who cares!), the breakfast choice to most importantly, location! It's important to know that *Sliema is massive and where the ferries go from. This hotel is quite a distance from there (although easily walkable) and is actually situated in Exiles Bay (Bus stop is actually Antik - right outside the hotel) a much quieter and prettier area. We were put on the 5th floor and were so glad as the views were superb and also the outside noise isn't as intense, but the sliding door to the balcony is very effective at cutting out the noise anyway. I loved to sit and watch the world go by early morning and evening - people jogging, walking, taking dogs for a walk or the may electric scooters whizzing by. We had no trouble sleeping nor did we hear any other noise (like music or road traffic etc). There are a couple of nice bars/restaurants opposite the hotel and directly out of the hotel entrances (yes, there are two receptions and entrances) is a pizza place (which you walk through to get in) and a Costa Coffee shop. Our room was a reasonable size and had all the amenities we needed - safe, hairdryer, plenty storage, a nice shower (but you do have to pay extra for coffee making facilities) but the toilet took forever to re-fill after a flush - a tad annoying but nothing I'd really moan about. The shower had some marks on the grouting but overall the room was very clean and the maids came everyday. Bed was comfortable and blackout curtains ensured a good nights sleep. Breakfast was a very, very typical European hotel offering. Cooked sausages, bacon, eggs, beans, tomatoes etc. Plenty choice of break, fruit, meats and cheese. Lovely fresh cooked warm croissants with a choice of jams, chocolate sauce and more. Coffee and juice via machines and waitresses very efficently cleaning up after you as soon as you are done, so no clutter of plates on tables etc. As mention, the top floor swimming pool was excellent but really cold. We found this both bracing and refreshing on the warmer days, plenty of sunloungers, a pool bar and mutliple level seating (as there are two sides to the hotel, you can cross over). We got a 7 day bus travel card for €21 each and we used them to death as it is so simple to get anywhere on the island by bus. They are clean, frequent and convenient. The bus stops are right outside the hotel for either direction. They can get full during 'rush hours' but that's always part of the charm of travel by bus we find! The best thing in this hotel is the staff. Very friendly and helpful. Rooms are decorated in a unique style (obviously they are new). No wardrobe but you can ask for extra hangers. They have daily cleaning as well. Iron and ironboard , full amenities like shaving, vanity even comb, free water and wine when you arrive. If only they can fix the lift function better then the hotel will be perfect!

Good establishment. Service up to 3 stars. Unfortunately the soundproofing of the rooms is poor. We were really disturbed by other guests. We were bothered on several occasions by the smell of cigarettes.

Starting with the information - we stayed at So City as a young couple (who arent particularly into nightclubs/bars) to see Matla for the first time over a week. I have given this a 'benefit-of-the-doubt' rating due to the hotel being incredibly new. We picked So City Hotel because of the value, it was incredibly well priced. I'd imagine this is a strategy due to it being so new but it was certainly well worth the price we paid. On to the hotel as a whole - I feel this is definitely aimed toward capturing people coming to Malta for some night life. Its positioned so that no more than 10 seconds from leaving the lobby, you can be in a bar, and their are some nice bars surrounding. That said, we werent there for that - but this location also meant that finding an evening meal, or a quick early night drink was incredibly easy. Exploring the island was also very easy from here, Valletta was a very short journey, and as we had opted to rent a car, there was a carpark about 5 minutes walk away (Pengardens) which is reasonably priced for over night parking, and we never struggled for a space. The room was very comfortable, and the mattress was perfect and bedding very soft and comfortable. Our upgraded room was also incredibly spacious. The theming is a nice touch and makes the room a bit more characterful and individual. Staying on the 7th floor, there was minimal noise at night, altough id be concerned if we needed to keep the window open.... The black out curtains were also amazing for keep the room dark for a little bit of extra sleep. Constructive criticism for the room would be: The shower tempurture is difficult - the hottest setting is insanely hot (my other half loves hot showers but this was too much for her also) and it wouldnt go cold, just cooler, it also seemed to get colder through out the shower and you found yourself adjusting. There is not a lot of storage at all for longer stays. This is perhaps a by product of it feeling aimed towards 'nightlifers' who might stop 3 nights or so. I would perhaps ask reception for additional hangers if you have plenty of clothes for a longer stay. The mini fridge, altough useful, is not big enough to put larger water bottles in, which can be annoying. The aircon unit is situated in a place which means it blows directly at the bed. I tried to play with the control but there was no way to adjust it that I could find. Im trying to cool the room, not refridgerate myself. The timer on the aircon also didnt seem to work, so setting it the blow for 30 mins whilst i went to sleep just didnt seem to work. The TV is not a full smartTV which is a shame. Just channels and an internet browser, which are never nice to navigate around.... On to other notes: Breakfast is just what you need. Its not an all out buffett where there is everything you could dream of, but there is more than enough and a few items cycle so you can expect a slightly different breakfast each morning. Almost perfect My wife and I stayed for three nights this summer. This small hotel (just eighteen rooms), set in an old palace within the city walls of Mdina, is incredibly beautiful, the views from the rooms (pick one with a panoramic view, and don’t choose duplex if you can’t manage stairs) are superb, and the staff are wonderfully helpful and attentive. The only disappointment for me was that after all the reviews, I was looking forward to treating my wife to a birthday meal at the hotel’s Michelin starred restaurant, but when we arrived, we learned this restaurant was fully booked for and indeed beyond our stay. The helpful staff booked us into local restaurants as an alternative, but it was naturally not quite the same. Unless the hotel starts emailing people upon booking asking if they want to make reservations for their best restaurant (I imagine most guests will want them), I suggest you make your booking for this restaurant when you book your room. We will next time, and we will definitely be back. Other than that, a quite wonderful stay, and I would like to thank all the staff and management for making it so. Highly recommended.

I traveled to Malta alone and chose the Primera Hotel as one of the cheapest options in Malta. In principle, the travel guide says that Valletta is the best place to stay, but I would not agree with this, as it is an hour from St. Paul's Bay to Valletta, an hour to the ferry to Gozo and half an hour to Rabat/Mdina. Excursions such as to the Blue Grotto only go via Valletta and it takes 2 hours by bus. However, you can combine this with a travel route via Valletta or as the last spot before the airport. The hotel was clean, the rooms were more than adequately equipped and for €8 you could book breakfast on site, which was a bit English but had something for everyone. The only thing that could be difficult is being able to eat more than just fruit and bread as a vegan.

An enjoyable weekend break at Solana. The place is well positioned in the center of Mellieha to explore the town, v. nice view from the rooftop (attached a pic) that they also highlight as instagram-worthy. I rated the location 4/5 because of the relatively minor difficulty to find close-by parking as you need to be careful due to limited hours, but I learnt after that the hotel offers limited parking spots against payment. Cleanliness and service both rated an excellent 5/5. The facilities were good, again they didn't merit a 5/5 only because of a couple of small issues: you can experience a relatively long wait for the 2 lifts (used by guests and staff) at peak times since the hotel consists of two connected buildings, the gym needs a spruce-up as the multi-use machine needs a good oiling and the treadmill's arm cushions easily came unstuck, and the rooftop pool water was slightly murky on Sat afternoon and Sun morning. Other than our studio apartment was a comfortable fit for a family of 4, that included a well-equipped kitchenette that we used on the second night when the kids fancied an evening in after a long day. And nice to see once again the old-school complimentary sewing needle and thread, as well as a good sized bathtub. Tea and coffee freebies were present in abundance in the room. Breakfast was delicious and they certainly got the bacon, sausages, eggs, pastry and yogurt right. All in all, a well-priced worthy consideration if you're staying in Mellieha.

Staff are helpful, location is close to beach and Salt Pans. People relying on public transport needa be aware that buses are always coming late, a bit tricky to catch buses in Gozo. Anyhow, the hotel itself is fine, you may tell some areas are dated but you cant ask for too much with this price in this location.
