Bit of tricky one to write as a real mixed experience. Firstly, the staff were very good and room was lovely with beautiful decor. Bar area was cosy with excellent drinks selection and well kept ale. Breakfast was stunning and selection of homemade preserves and quality bacon, sausage, black pudding a real winner. What really let it down was the meal on evening of our stay. Foccacia and butters a lovely little nibble whilst awaiting mains however.... Pie of the day (steak and bacon) with mustard mash, hispi cabbage and blur cheese sauce was awful. The wholegrain mustard jar must have been tipped into the mash as was overpowering to the point of not tasting any blue cheese. Wholegrain too in the cabbage and overall a lack of balanced and coordinated flavours, left most of mash and cabbage and felt very disappointed. My partners featherblade of beef at £30 was lacking balance. Served with bland mash and some baby onions and bacon it lacked imagination and seasonality. The smoked cauliflower cheese was clearly overcooked cauliflower in a dish with some cream and a bit of cheese on top. It was watery and certainly not what I expected from my birthday visit. The eclectic decor verges on being overboard and with its senior clientele gives off the feel of a place which was once very good, but now rests on it'd reputation. At over £100 for two, for two courses and a drink with some bread, it simply wasn't worth it. Shame as it could be great again.

Stayed one night as attending a concert at the Piece Hall in Halifax. Room was lovely and they upgraded us to a superior room on arrival free of charge. Lovely large bed, good bathroom and all nicely decorated. We had Sunday dinner in the restaurant before the concert which was excellent. Breakfast was also very good. All staff were friendly and very helpful including sorting a taxi for us to the concert venue. Would definitely recommend and we will be keeping an eye on future concerts as an excuse to return!

Wow what a beautiful place! We stayed here because we were watching sheryl crow nearby. We stayed in room 14 which was their suite and it was stunning! The bed was massive and so comfortable. On arrival there was music on in the room which we really loved along with fresh baked cookies. The bath was massive and was beautiful. We didn't use the TV as we left the radio on. We had tea in the restaurant and can't believe how amazing the food was. Breakfast again was gorgeous. Checked out and was given a small box of chocolates. Left feeling very relaxed.. we will definitely stay here again and recommend to friends and family.

I stayed here on business, the hotel being booked by my client. I was made very welcome on arrival, enjoyed a pleasant couple of pints of local ale in the bar and went to bed. I slept really well, the really comfortable room was so quiet. The breakfast was superb, local produce cooked to perfection. One comment is I could get no mobile reception there on Vodafone, but I consider that an advantage as it meant I wasn't disturbed at all. However, there is guest WifFi if you really need it. I stayed on business, but this place would be really great for a romantic break.

Delicious Sunday lunch, cooked perfectly. My husband had the roast beef which was extremely tender and I had the pork, again really tasty. The deserts were outstanding. The service was faultless, really friendly staff and the surroundings were lovely.

This inn is excellent on all counts. The room, though a bit small, was clean and comfortable. The pub area is charming and inviting. The food in the restaurant was outstanding. We enjoyed the sitting area after dinner, and the fact that there is an outdoor covered sitting area. Parking was easy, convenient, and free!

Called in for an al fresco lunch. Lovely surroundings and furnishings and we enjoyed the food provided from the outside catering - but unfortunately there was definitely an unpleasant smell in the air. Septic tank problems? Or problems with the drains? My partner wanted a glass of quality cider - in keeping with your ethos of selling high quality products. Unfortunately the only cider on offer was Inch’s - a cheap mass produced cider - rather than a better quality drink such as Aspalls which you used to stock.

Visited many times for family meals and looked forward to the outside area serving light lunches again. Very dissatisfied with today's lunch for my birthday. No pizzas, seemingly replaced by focaccia with toppings. Massive fail in our option. Everyone left the large stodgy lump of bread with a slight topping on. Will still go for inside meals but outside needs a rethink in my opinion.

My rating was for the lunch time menu I’m afraid. We were looking forward to a country pub lunch time menu, but instead was met with an expensive ‘evening’ type of menu with not enough variety. The lovely waiter had to keep apologising as he seemed to have been dropped in the deep end with no training. There were several attempts at what drinks were or were not available. Yes we have Peroni, sorry we don’t. Yes we have a house wine, sorry all we have is a wine list. We asked for tap water and were brought a bottle that was not at first, just to mention a few hiccups. He really tried his best and we felt he had been let down & it wasn’t his fault. We have always loved the place, the location, but obviously now run by someone else. It is some years since we have been, but the menu for lunch time, for hikers, general public bobbing in as we did, is lacking in choice and too expensive. There were few customers which I think says something.
