We found the services in the Great Southern Hotel Sydney to be excellent. We arrived late on our first stay prior to a cruise and very early after our cruise and was still able to access our hotel room with ease and they were very helpful to us at this time of the night.
The room was very clean and sufficient for our needs. The location was excellent as it was very central to Central Station, Paddy's Markets and within easy walking distance to all the local attractions in Sydney, ie Darling Harbour, Circular Key and Opera House, Bridge, ect. Being so close to Central station this made travelling to other destinations further afield really easy. I would definitely stay there again when visiting Sydney.

The only advantage of the hotel is the location, 10 minutes maximum from the train station. Everything else - it is not clear why they gave it 4 stars. Breakfast (they give vouchers for it) is the same every day - eggs (scrambled, poached / fried), sausages, bacon, beans and hashbrowns. Some juices are completely powdered, coffee / tea are so-so, toast and Nutella / peanut butter. Mostly groups of pensioners stay. Cleaning is terrible - on the first night I crushed a bug on the floor in the bathroom, its remains lay until the last day. The bed linen was not changed all week, towels were taken away, they did not give new ones - I had to go to the reception for them. There is no water in the rooms, but there is some semblance of a kitchen - a microwave, a mini-fridge, a sink, cups, glasses, spoons. There is an elevator. The hotel has a bar where you can drink inexpensively during happy hours (we ourselves have not been, but it is always sold out).

Location was perfect to be able to take in the beautiful sights of Sydney. Close to the train too. Loved the decor of the lobby.The staff was knowledgeable and helpful. We would love to stay there again.

Location is excellent for catching Light rail across the road or the train couple minutes away. The room have all the basics. Bathrooms a little dated but that's not a big deal. It's my go place to stay in Sydney.😀

The trip.com site didn't put up clearly that the room I booked was without houskeeping. No problem for me but I can imagine there are some people who wants a clean towel everyday. Trams stop in front of the hotel and the trainstation to get the train to the airport is 5 minutes around the corner. The staff were very friendly besides the one time ther was no fruit and yoghurt for breakfast. So I waisted money for jus 2 sandwich with jam.

Very very good location, just 5 mins walk to Sydney Central station. A lot of restaurants and near Chinatown there.
