Almost perfect My wife and I stayed for three nights this summer. This small hotel (just eighteen rooms), set in an old palace within the city walls of Mdina, is incredibly beautiful, the views from the rooms (pick one with a panoramic view, and don’t choose duplex if you can’t manage stairs) are superb, and the staff are wonderfully helpful and attentive. The only disappointment for me was that after all the reviews, I was looking forward to treating my wife to a birthday meal at the hotel’s Michelin starred restaurant, but when we arrived, we learned this restaurant was fully booked for and indeed beyond our stay. The helpful staff booked us into local restaurants as an alternative, but it was naturally not quite the same. Unless the hotel starts emailing people upon booking asking if they want to make reservations for their best restaurant (I imagine most guests will want them), I suggest you make your booking for this restaurant when you book your room. We will next time, and we will definitely be back. Other than that, a quite wonderful stay, and I would like to thank all the staff and management for making it so. Highly recommended.

Superficially this hotel appears quite stylish but on closer inspection it is starting to show signs or wear ie in just our bathroom there were holes in the tiles that scratched our feet, a filthy rusted toilet brush and a a lock that didn’t work. The air conditioning was ineffective- so much so that our children overheated in their part of the family room as there was no air conditioning in there and subsequently had to sleep on floor of main room. The cleaners also left all sorts of items outside our room like ladders, buckets of dirty water, dirty towels which didn’t make for an enjoyable experience each time we left our room. Pool was pretty but tiny and hugely overcrowded which made it quite unpleasant and we couldn’t use indoor pool as local children having swimming lessons! The worst part were staff who seemed sad and depressed and virtually none of them spoke to us during our 2 night stay. The worst part was on arrival when I was berated for booking our 16 year old as a child. I had done this through a booking platform so it wasn’t my fault but the receptionist would not listen and was incredibly rude saying I should have paid more! Not the best welcome. Food was very overpriced so are in lovely local restaurants. Parking terrible and you have to park streets away which isn’t made clear!

The location is convenient with restaurants and plenty of buses nearby but it's also a quite poor and ugly neigbourhood. It seems to be in the process of being gentrified with lot's of construction in the quarter but there are also many abandoned and broken buildings around. Generally it feels a bit sketchy. The Hotel itself is a new construction, designed well and very clean. My biggest complaint however is the service and staff. Unfortunately I was given one of the worst rooms, where the balcony was facing a wall, so there was almost no daylight in the room. When enquiring if a room change is possible, the receptionist blantly lied to my face and said they were fully booked. When I checked online for the same dates and room category, there was still plenty available, even in higher categories. So instead of trying to upsell me or finding another solution to satisfy me as a customer, they treated me like cattle.

After much deliberation for location and hotel for our stay in Malta we chose 'The Regency Plaza, Sliema*' and after a fantastic week here we know that we chose well. Very happy with the hotel from the reception - happy to help with anything and everything, baggage storage (until our room was ready), our room, the bed, the view, the pool (outdoor one is blooming cold but who cares!), the breakfast choice to most importantly, location! It's important to know that *Sliema is massive and where the ferries go from. This hotel is quite a distance from there (although easily walkable) and is actually situated in Exiles Bay (Bus stop is actually Antik - right outside the hotel) a much quieter and prettier area. We were put on the 5th floor and were so glad as the views were superb and also the outside noise isn't as intense, but the sliding door to the balcony is very effective at cutting out the noise anyway. I loved to sit and watch the world go by early morning and evening - people jogging, walking, taking dogs for a walk or the may electric scooters whizzing by. We had no trouble sleeping nor did we hear any other noise (like music or road traffic etc). There are a couple of nice bars/restaurants opposite the hotel and directly out of the hotel entrances (yes, there are two receptions and entrances) is a pizza place (which you walk through to get in) and a Costa Coffee shop. Our room was a reasonable size and had all the amenities we needed - safe, hairdryer, plenty storage, a nice shower (but you do have to pay extra for coffee making facilities) but the toilet took forever to re-fill after a flush - a tad annoying but nothing I'd really moan about. The shower had some marks on the grouting but overall the room was very clean and the maids came everyday. Bed was comfortable and blackout curtains ensured a good nights sleep. Breakfast was a very, very typical European hotel offering. Cooked sausages, bacon, eggs, beans, tomatoes etc. Plenty choice of break, fruit, meats and cheese. Lovely fresh cooked warm croissants with a choice of jams, chocolate sauce and more. Coffee and juice via machines and waitresses very efficently cleaning up after you as soon as you are done, so no clutter of plates on tables etc. As mention, the top floor swimming pool was excellent but really cold. We found this both bracing and refreshing on the warmer days, plenty of sunloungers, a pool bar and mutliple level seating (as there are two sides to the hotel, you can cross over). We got a 7 day bus travel card for €21 each and we used them to death as it is so simple to get anywhere on the island by bus. They are clean, frequent and convenient. The bus stops are right outside the hotel for either direction. They can get full during 'rush hours' but that's always part of the charm of travel by bus we find! The location of the hotel we found was perfect, not only for bus/ferry travel but for bars and restaurants and even swimming. There is a wide pedestrian boulevard that

The best thing in this hotel is the staff. Very friendly and helpful. Rooms are decorated in a unique style (obviously they are new). No wardrobe but you can ask for extra hangers. They have daily cleaning as well. Iron and ironboard , full amenities like shaving, vanity even comb, free water and wine when you arrive. If only they can fix the lift function better then the hotel will be perfect!

Starting with the information - we stayed at So City as a young couple (who arent particularly into nightclubs/bars) to see Matla for the first time over a week. I have given this a 'benefit-of-the-doubt' rating due to the hotel being incredibly new. We picked So City Hotel because of the value, it was incredibly well priced. I'd imagine this is a strategy due to it being so new but it was certainly well worth the price we paid. On to the hotel as a whole - I feel this is definitely aimed toward capturing people coming to Malta for some night life. Its positioned so that no more than 10 seconds from leaving the lobby, you can be in a bar, and their are some nice bars surrounding. That said, we werent there for that - but this location also meant that finding an evening meal, or a quick early night drink was incredibly easy. Exploring the island was also very easy from here, Valletta was a very short journey, and as we had opted to rent a car, there was a carpark about 5 minutes walk away (Pengardens) which is reasonably priced for over night parking, and we never struggled for a space. The room was very comfortable, and the mattress was perfect and bedding very soft and comfortable. Our upgraded room was also incredibly spacious. The theming is a nice touch and makes the room a bit more characterful and individual. Staying on the 7th floor, there was minimal noise at night, altough id be concerned if we needed to keep the window open.... The black out curtains were also amazing for keep the room dark for a little bit of extra sleep. Constructive criticism for the room would be: The shower tempurture is difficult - the hottest setting is insanely hot (my other half loves hot showers but this was too much for her also) and it wouldnt go cold, just cooler, it also seemed to get colder through out the shower and you found yourself adjusting. There is not a lot of storage at all for longer stays. This is perhaps a by product of it feeling aimed towards 'nightlifers' who might stop 3 nights or so. I would perhaps ask reception for additional hangers if you have plenty of clothes for a longer stay. The mini fridge, altough useful, is not big enough to put larger water bottles in, which can be annoying. The aircon unit is situated in a place which means it blows directly at the bed. I tried to play with the control but there was no way to adjust it that I could find. Im trying to cool the room, not refridgerate myself. The timer on the aircon also didnt seem to work, so setting it the blow for 30 mins whilst i went to sleep just didnt seem to work. The TV is not a full smartTV which is a shame. Just channels and an internet browser, which are never nice to navigate around.... On to other notes: Breakfast is just what you need. Its not an all out buffett where there is everything you could dream of, but there is more than enough and a few items cycle so you can expect a slightly different breakfast each morning. It was so good that I thought it was a pity that I only stayed for one night. The Mediterranean restaurant located inside the resort was not very tasty, but the breakfast was very good. It was an English breakfast buffet (sausage, bacon, eggs, etc.), and there was also a little Turkish breakfast menu (ham, cheese, tomato, cucumber). The staff were friendly and the amenities were good~ It's nice to see nearby Bujiba.

My sister and I needed a good getaway. As such, we chose to visit Malta and we stayed at Ibis Styles St Paul Bay Malta. Our experience was amazing. The staff members were very welcoming and humble. Stay 2 nights, everyone! Figure 6 (the room looks outside) is a sea-view room, just from the angle of the swimming pool. Hehe, when his sea view room is ready. From the airport to the hotel you can take a bus x1, 1,5 euros but every hour, far from the airport. A taxi from the airport is 37 Euros (40 minutes), and there is a dedicated counter for buying at the airport. The hotel has four restaurants, one Italian restaurant, (Figure 4-5) one Lebanese, and one (1-2) one is the place to eat breakfast. Breakfast has many varieties, and you can also buffet for 26 Euros in the evening. Many buses can go anywhere. The hotel is close to the ferry to gozo, 10 minutes walk, few minutes by bus. The hotel has indoor and outdoor swimming pools (see Figure 6). The indoors are not very good, and there are spas that are not good. There are no shopping malls around the hotel, so take a bus to mehddina, where there is a cathedral. There are no restaurants in the surroundings, and only hotels can solve it at night. There are resident singers and English songs on the second floor at night (I feel like a four-star hotel in Shanghai in the 1990s). Older couples and foreigners dance and entertain themselves. Many elderly people. There is also an activity room on the second floor, with billiards and table tennis.
