Very Good
JJanine7AMAZING value for money. The staff is super friendly and the guests are very international and social. The hostel offered lots of free activities every day. I was amazed by their sightseeing tours, yoga or karaoke. Amazing company and offering!
CClaire MSuch a lovely hotel! I stayed in the Gaylord room for a week, which was so sweet and quaint, lovely antique furniture and a great clean well stocked bathroom. I arrived later than planned due to flight delay and Vincent waited for us to arrive. He helped with our bags into the hotel and down the stairs to our room, and made sure we were happy and settled. All of the team were super friendly and polite, and I felt so at home. Would 100% return for more of this lovely atmosphere and environment. Location wise it is in a marvellous position, 10 mins walk max to 2 subway stations (14th and 8th and 14th and 7th), and the same distance from the PATH to Jersey. Right in the heart of West Village for night life and boutique shopping, restaurants and bars. Round the corner from Carrie Bradshaw and Monica Geller if you care about that stuff! Facilities - microwave, pop up toaster, kettle, coffee maker, fridge. Television with Netflix and Amazon and Hulu etc.
I booked a room at the last minute after my flight was cancelled, and was so impressed with everything about The Local. They were so helpful and accomodating, from my initial phone call, to letting me check in early when a room became available, to booking a cab to the airport early in the morning, at their discounted rate. The Local is situated near the iconic Gantry Park, and is walking distance from shops and sights. The rooms are well designed and super clean, and the lobby has everything a traveller needs, from computers, printer, charging area to a bar area, comfy couches, local art...and my favourite: a roof top lounge area with views of the NY skyline and Queensborough Bridge. I highly recommend staying here!

GGuest Useris ok, fairly clean, friendly and helpful stuff, 24 hours reception, can check-in at any time. next to the train track, very noisy, AC inside the room but makes noise, you cannot sleep without earplugs, unless terribly tired like I was. Felt very safe in the area, I arrived at 02:00 am using the subway, and left 03:00 am with no problems. shop right next to the hostel. across the road other shops for food which are cheaper, only a short train ride to the main attractions. Large kitchen, 2 large fridges, pool table, large seating area in the basement too noisy because of the train track next to the window, noisy AC, no lift, steep stairs, cleanness of toilets was not to the best.

I had an overall good experience staying at the Kama Central Park, during my weekend getaway to NYC. The staff was pretty friendly and helpful, especially since I was a ***** who accidently booked a stay at a women's only dorm on Agoda (especially since Agoda didn't really specify that the hostel had Men only dorms, female only dorms and mixed dorms, and when I booked there was only one kind of dorm available) and they were still willing to accommodate me and they did. I got in about 15 minutes before check in and they still booked me in too, which was great. I really got only a couple of negative things to say about my stay and the first was they only give you one towel for your entire stay since they're pretty short on towels, so if you plan on staying there I'd recommend you bring a couple of towels of your own. The other thing is the showers aren't all the same quality. I wouldn't recommend showering in the one person bathroom especially if you get dorm 506 like I did because the water in that shower is cold. The men's shower on that floor however is better (apart from that one always running) because the water isn't cold but not really hot either, it's just ok. I liked the little console in the bed, and that let's you turn on the airflow, change the light color, dim the lights, etc. as long as you got your card. I'll also admit, I got a little worried for leaving my luggage in the bed because the doors to the bed pod, because the bed doors don't lock, but if you keep your belongings in the bed with the doors shut and out of plain view then you shouldn't worry about anybody stealing your belongings. I had a great time in NYC, but if you stay there then you might want to remember to bring a couple of towels and shower in the shower rooms, not the bathroom in your dorm.
GGuest UserThe West Side YMCA is definitely a no frills place to stay, but the location is excellent. You're right next to Central Park and Columbus Circle. Times Square is an easy walk south. We stayed in 2 different rooms. The first had a bunk bed and was quite small, but the bed was comfy and the room was clean. It also had a small TV and fridge. We had a semi-private bathroom, which was down the hall. This meant we had to scan our key on one of the bathroom doors to get in, but once inside we had privacy while we got cleaned up. The bathrooms were kept clean and tidy. We were able to upgrade the second half of our stay to a room with a larger bed and an in room bathroom. Again, this hotel is no frills. It can be rough around the edges, but it's clean and comfortable at the end of a long day of sightseeing. We did not have time to take advantage of the gym, the pool, the sauna, and stuff like that, but they looked nice. I'd recommend the West Side YMCA. If you're visiting NYC, you should be out doing stuff, not sitting around the room. It was everything we needed it to be.
GGuest UserCheck in was quick. We were on the first floor and it was so loud at night -- the lobby worker had friends visiting whose voices echoed in the lobby until midnight. In the morning, the beeping of the waffle maker in the breakfast area was loud, even from the tin with the door closed. There were hairs on the bathroom and bed that were clearly not ours as they were not our hair type. The bathroom was so cramped that you cannot open the door fully because it hits the toilet. There was noise very loud in our room from what I think was hotel workers moving things. However, the price was low, the location was great, and it didn't feel unsafe. You get what you pay for, and it fulfilled our basic needs for a one night stay in the city.
996354532This was a horrible stay. With the AC on full blast I awoke at 2am drenched in sweat and the temp 85. This was on a chilly Nov night. The radiator heat was boiling. The curtains were touching the boiling radiator and I feared they would burn or catch fire. I tried calling and emailing with no response. I was unable to fall back asleep. I had to get ready the following day while dripping with sweat. Someone finally answered my calls around 11:30am. And said they would fix it. The day was quite warm for November and the room took forever to cool back down. I left for the day and when I returned it had cooled down enough to get some rest. Went out the next day and when I returned at midnight again 85 degrees. I just started crying. I tried calling again no response. While sweating I called my airline and ended up leaving the hostel at 2:30am and forfeiting my last sight seeing day in the city to get an early flight out bc I just couldn’t not tolerate 1 more minute in that heat. Since that stay I have called and emailed relentlessly asking for a refund of at least 2 night stay and have gotten NO response whatsoever. I am going to have to resort to contacting my credit card company which I have never done before. Please do your self a favor and DO NOT put yourself through the misery of a sauna from hell with absolutely no way to contact anyone affiliated with the hotel in case of emergency. And do not expect any customer service if there are any issues with your stay. With all the added fees, I could have stayed at the New Yorker right around the corner for the same price. Lesson learned.
Hotel is a hidden gem with amazing staff and great people working there. Housekeepers worked well and quickly leading to a great stay. Was a great business location and helped me prepare for my trip by being a quite hotel.
