Top notch everything and quaint

While the location and lobby are nice, I had the worst night of sleep due to a non-functioning AC unit. I fought to stay awake on my long drive the next day. There is not one person on staff so forget about asking questions about sights or restaurants. If it's raining when you arrive, commit the lock combo to memory so you can enter. Same thing with the room. Don't leave your phone in your car. There were 2 of us but only one chair. Since the chair was an uncomfortable wire thing, I wouldn't have been happier with two. I was looking forward to my stay but was very disappointed. Won't be going back.

We wanted to visit Hudson, NY and knew we would need to spend the night. We previously visited Kingston, NY and wanted a similar experience, staying in another boutique hotel. This is how we landed at The Howard Hotel. As another reviewer said, this hotel happens to be in the best part of Warren Street where there aren't meters to worry about. Yes, there is alternate side of the street parking and that is very well explained in the hotel material. Another reviewer said this is like an AirBnB because of the contactless check-in. I agree to that (though I've never stayed in an AirBnB) and everything went super smoothly. We did have a question about the ice maker in the common area on the floor and that was easily resolved. Might be best if there would be a sign on how to add water to the ice maker should you see that error message as we did, but again it was resolved when we texted the question to the contact phone number. The room was clean and quiet. The air conditioner worker exactly as described on the printed material in the room. We stayed in 302 which was a nice quiet room on the 3rd floor at the end of the hall. We sat out front before dinner though the cushions were a little wet from the prior evenings deluge. There is a lovely "backyard" area but we were a little fearful of getting ourselves locked back there though there was a way to prop the door open; we didn't want to do that either because it was a very warm day (and the A/C worked fine). We walked everywhere in town and found this hotel to be perfectly located. Recommend.

Upon arrival we realized there was no elevator. Looking back at the hotel description I still don't see that mentioned, but I've missed things before, so maybe? We typically book rooms as far from the lobby and street as possible but weren't up to schlepping our luggage up to the 3rd floor and back down again. Despite it being a contactless check in I was able to catch someone in the hallway who was very responsive to my request for a 1st floor room if possible. Fortunately we were there on a Wednesday and they were able to accommodate us, with grace. We had no trouble with noise, likely largely due to being mid week, so were completely content being on street level (rear of bldg overlooking garden courtyard). Rooms are equipped with Mitsubishi split systems (HVAC) which might be intimidating to some (a schematic of the controller is provided) but we live in an equally old house with no duct work and have the same setup in our home. Spotlessly clean, wonderful bed and bedding, and in room espresso made for a comfortable stay. The hotel is situated in what we feel is the best section of Warren St based on our ramblings.
