The Wick, Hudson, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel
4.2/540 Reviews
The Wick is an old candle factory (hence the name). We were traveling with several other people and had 3 different rooms. Our rooms were all spacious and nicely appointed. For some reason, we all had problems getting towels. When we got to our room there was only one towel in the bathroom. We asked for more and they did bring a couple. But our friends had similar issues with towels. The staff members we dealt with were all very pleasant and helpful in recommending some places to eat and giving directions. The hotel is not too far from the main part of town (Warren St. primarily). There is a very rickety staircase that goes up to Warren St. but we only tried it once and then decided to go the slightly longer way other times. The view from our room (and I'm guessing most rooms) is of a parking lot and some abandoned buildings. It looks like there's some construction going on nearby which might improve the look of that area. I thought the bed was comfortable and the linens were fine for me. Overall, it was a good place for us to stay in Hudson for a couple of nights.
St Charles Hotel Downtown Hudson

What a shock! We thought we were booked into a renovated old gem of a hotel only to discover that half the renovations are still not done. The front of the hotel is tacky with half the windows covered in cardboard from the inside and the entrance on the side has an extension wire threaded through the entrance so the door does not close. The upholstered furniture in the lobby is so stained, I would not sit on it and one wall has a hole cut through the sheet rock with bare wood studs showing??? We did not feel safe walking outside after dark since the park across the street has homeless men who sleep there. We could not open the windows in our room because the screens were broken and full of dead bugs and the upholster lounge chair in our room was stained with frayed and torn upholstery. I am not exaggerating. The only saving features were the newly installed carpets, comfortable clean mattress, and clean bathroom. This hotel could be so much better with some good maintenance. We had booked directly with the hotel and paid top dollar (twice the rate charged through trip advisor!) for our two night stay. Too bad we didn't book through trip advisor and read the reviews on this site before booking. Lesson learned!
