Barceló Illetas Albatros - Adults Only
4.2/540 Reviews
We stayed in Barcelo in Dominican Republic and we are really happy with the brand in general since then. We chose the Barcelo Illetas Albatros due to this experience and they didn't disappoint. Due to the low season, there were some small hiccups with the service we received but it was a comfortable stay after all. Here is a detailed evaluation of specifics: Welcome: We arrived around 8 p.m. and we were welcomed at the reception. The reception staff usually stays at the back and come out if you are waiting for service but overall they are quick and welcoming. There was no mention of My Barcelo benefits which made us think that the hotel is not paying attention to it at all. (e.g., there was no free water in the room). The room: The bed is really really comfortable. I would want that bed in my apartment. The room is also very clean with nice high quality towels. The mini bar is filled up but there was no mention of the pricing apart from the QR code. I thought the sweets were free and ate before I realised the pricing. Also the curtains in the room were a bit dirty and needs to be changed a bit more often. There were some issues regarding the room though. There was a garlic/toilet mixed smell coming from the bathroom after our 2nd night. The ventilation in the room wasn't great and the A/C was only heating and not cooling (due to winter season I guess). So we requested a room change. The hotel interiors: Really clean everywhere you go. It offers everything you would need on a city break or even a summer holiday (however we were there in winter season and couldn't use the outdoor pool or private beach). The private beach area could use some care since it is quite dangerous to walk around there with slippery rocks and stuff. Restaurant: The food is good and fresh. They have omelettes freshly made for you in the mornings and grills in the evenings. The salad buffet is a bit limited and the food gets redundant after 4 days+nights eating there but overall happy with the friendly service and healthy good quality food. Location: We rented a car to see around the island so the location wasn't a concern. But there isn't much to do if you don't have a car and it is winter season. The bus service to palma is quite frequent though. The parking is not free at the hotel but the nearby free car park just worked great if you don't mind climbing up the stairs from there to the hotel. Overall: Had a good stay. There are some minor hick-ups but we felt safe & clean

We have just returned from.another stay at the Bonsol...oh goodness..where do I start...we cannot thank Martin more for welcoming us back and for the care that he and indeed all his family give us guests. The staff also were amazing.from Ferdinand at Reception...my.husband has mobility issues and everyone went to such lengths to make our holiday as easy as possible..we had a glorious suite near to where we tend to spend our time...which was the Bar near the beach and ...huge thanks to Miguel. We also spent most evenings at the restaurant near the beach..heavenly place..thanks to Jose /Constantin and indeed everyone there who had such patience and were all so caring..we must have driven them all mad ! Both the little cove and pool near the bar are perfect for swimming..I swam c 3 or 4 times a day. The Bar in the main building is also a great place..Goldie...thankyou too. So many people to.mention..cannot list them.all..everyone who works here are a credit to the hotel..but that is down to Martin, Natalia and all the Xamena family's magic that makes the Bonsol so special . We will be back all being well next year ...Thank you ! X

Overall, it was a good stay but I’m not sure I would call it a 5-star hotel. The hotel itself is beautiful, peaceful and massive. The staff was generally very friendly and helpful. The rooms were beautiful and spacious enough for two people to comfortably stay for about 4-5 days. I also opted in for the Redlevel experience and I’d advise against it. I didn’t think I saw any additional benefits that could warrant an extra charge of $1k. You have access to a couple of snacks and drinks throughout the day and a Bali bed for one day. I must say though, while the Bali bed was lovely, they don’t serve food at all while you’re relaxing by the pool! That to me felt odd because people would have to leave and go to one of their restaurants to eat and then return to their sun beds. I thought that was quite inefficient and disruptive to wanting a relaxing day. And perhaps we went off season, but they seemed very understaffed by the pool. It took us about 30 mins to get our drink orders and they wouldn’t return to take our next drink order until an hour to 1.5 hours later. Service was very sparse by the tool. Another issue I encountered at the hotel was that we had asked the valet to park our car our first night and when we got our car back the following AM, we had seen new scratches on our car! It clearly looked like someone bumped into our car while opening their car and I would have expected better for valet to be more cautious when managing the hotel guests’ cars. When we first informed the valet guy, he seemed unbothered and just responded he will take “good care” of our car but that wasn’t reassuring at all. I even shared this incident with one of the red level associates and while she was apologetic, there wasn’t necessarily any further attempts to put us at ease that there wouldn’t be any more issues with our car. This really dampened our trip for the next several days and our experience at the hotel. In summary, while I enjoyed the stay at the hotel, I wasn’t as impressed as one would be from a 5-star hotel. I’m glad I stayed here for our holiday but I’m not running back to book another stay.

We have just spent an absolutely wonderful week at this beautiful hotel. It was everything we were hoping for. The hotel is in a lovely quiet area (if you want lots of restaurants & bars, this is not the place for you). There are a few mini-markets and a handful of restaurants dotted about, but other than that, it is just other hotels. You can hop on a bus to Palma from right outside the hotel. The number 4 bus goes into Palma every 15 minutes or so for €2 per person and takes about 20 minutes. Palma is a beautiful city, so I recommend you do this at least once. The hotel is kept very clean by a team of hard-working staff. We were in a garden bungalow (2 adults & 1 teenager) and it was just the right size for us, with a good sized bathroom and a beautiful view out to the bay. The rooms are cleaned every day. The swimming pools are lovely – the upper one is by the pool bar (which isn’t too badly priced and the food we had (toasties, nachos, pizzas) were very good) and the lower one has a little pool attached to the main one for little people, or just to sit in. There isn’t a huge amount to do for children (no organised entertainment – so again, if this is what you are looking for, you need to stay elsewhere). The hotel also has mini-golf, tennis courts, pool table, if you want a little activity to do whilst you are there. The staff were all very knowledgeable and very helpful. There are a couple of little beaches nearby, but they were completely packed (we were there in the first week of the summer holidays) and most of the beach is taken up with sunbeds which you have to pay to use. It was too busy for my liking, but we did go down later one afternoon (it was still packed) to have a quick dip in the sea and a cocktail from the beach bar (€10 for a porn star martini and it was packed with alcohol!) Food: we stayed on a half-board basis (and I thoroughly recommend doing this). Breakfast was from 7.30 to 10.30 and is a help-yourself buffet. There is so much to choose from and the drinks are all included (they even have Prosecco out on Saturdays & Sundays). You can eat inside or outside on the terrace. The staff work very hard to keep everything topped up and to keep your table clean. We loved the breakfast! The evening meal is in the sister hotel over the road and we found this to be absolutely brilliant. Again, it is a help-yourself buffet and there is so much food to choose from. The pudding selection was absolute heaven! We felt the choice was very good (different options each evening throughout the week) and we found the food to always be served hot. The views of the bay from the window tables are absolutely beautiful and you can watch the cruise ships make their way back out of Palma. The drinks are not included, so they are billed to your room and you pay at the end of your stay, when you check out. We tended to get a bottle of water (€3 each). The waiting staff work hard so that you enjoy your meal – our waiter Wilson was absolutely wonder

English / Français. Occupants of rooms 306 and 307. Excellent stay at this superb hotel. Thanks to all employees, but special thanks to: - Mr. Ramon Costa from the reception. - Mr. Giovanni from the restaurant. The staff was perfect but these 2 men are clearly above by their professionalism and their kindness, the bosses of their field. Thanks again. Occupants des chambres 306 et 307. Le personnel était parfait mais ces 2 hommes sont clairement au-dessus par leur professionnalisme et leur gentillesse, les patrons de leur domaine. Merci encore.

From the moment we arrived to our departure we were treated with the utmost care and attention! Total credit to all the staff who genuinely looked like they enjoyed working here from reception , front of house , maintenance, spa, housekeeping , lifeguard, chefs, bar staff it made our holiday knowing you were happy and nothing was too much trouble the food was delicious & plentiful along side the array of well stocked bar including my favourite Pacharan x To arrive at a hotel that provided all of the above as well as robes, slippers ,toiletries , towels , coffee machine and that were replenished as soon as you required , what more could you want . Our only regret was that we couldn’t stay longer which was a first for us to admit because we are usually ready to head home. Well done team Roc Illetas keep doing what your doing x thank you we will return x
