The Shrubbery Hotel

We had a room which was reasonably clean and comfortable, but we felt like the overall service in the hotel was very lacking. At similarly priced hotels, they make your tea for you in the morning at breakfast, but not at the shrubbery. You might expect the waiting staff to be knowledgeable. But they didn't seem to know what they were doing. The hotel has apparently recently released itself from being a Best Western franchise. And that shows through very very clearly. It seems everything is cut back to the bare minimum. It seems to be just a skeleton staff. There were no greetings as we entered and left the hotel via reception as you might expect. We weren't even asked if we had enjoyed our stay when we checked out. There's nothing generally wrong with the hotel but it just seems a bit impersonal and then as though the staff aren't willing to try.

If I could have given 6 stars + I would have! We’ve visited the Shrubbery many times before for food and events. - Knowing how good they and their staff were we booked our wedding for 17/08/24. In the run up to the wedding, in the organisation process, nothing was too much when requested. Ashley, (the manager), helped with suggestions, The team surpassed themselves again. It was flawless excellence throughout the whole weekend. My ‘husband’ and I and all of our guests were made to feel welcome, special, and thoroughly relaxed. I would highly recommend this beautiful Hotel and their team, for special events, weekend breaks, or even Dinner and a drink in the bar! Thank you all so much!

Dirty, very outdated rooms in poor state of repair. See photos. No one in reception when we arrived. No smile when the guy did arrive. Bed uncomfortable. Looked well-worn. Location was convenient for us as we were visiting someone in Ilminster.

Stayed at The Shrubbery for a friend's wedding. Very good value for money. The full English breakfast was great, especially the hashbrowns. The staff were great especially Babs who was an absolute delight and was a highlight of my stay. So warm, extremely friendly, helpful and very hard working. Comfy bed and great shower. I'd definitely stay here again.

Looking for a stopover hotel on way down to Cornwall, The Shubbery did not disappoint. Lovely spacious room with a great view, helpful staff, really good breakfast and had a nice stroll around Ilminster. We arrived at 8.00 p.m. on a friday night having endured the A303, just missed dinner time but the receptionist pointed us to an excellent curry house in the town

We visited for a wedding , First impressions good , warm welcome staff friendly . we’d requested a room with a view , and ended up with the view of the car park . and a garage at the rear . The room itself nice and big with a huge wet room bathroom , bed was comfortable but we did nt get to sleep untill 2.30 ish as the walls are paper thin and the neighbours were up chatting after the wedding , so quite loud . As the wedding event didn’t finish till midnight . The wedding itself was just lovely , the food was good too three course as part of the wedding package. I reported to reception that the door was locking at the top and bottom as the door handel itself looked like it had been jimmeed to get inside , handel slightly bent. but no one came to check on it. but i felt it needed reporting at the start !!! but didn’t worry too much as only there one night . if you want a room with a view ask for an upstairs room overlooking the garden . plenty of parking . upon leaving i always ***** the bed where ever we stay as i myself run a cleaning business . the pillows were clean but were all different , there was a tea stain on the duvet itself . all had protectors on . Overall 4 out of 5 stars from me , loved the fact you had tea coffee and biscuits with a kettle for the morning so needed after no sleep . you lost a star because no one came to check the door and the bedding , but everything else was fine . Thank you . we would visit again .

Good little hotel lovely breakfast pleasant staff would stay again

A Good Place to Stay....we had Room 7...a lovely big room with 4 poster. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Bar well stocked at very good prices for a hotel...food was excellent..especially the sticky belly pork starters. Garden was nice to sit out and enjoy the sun..nice distant views Breakfast was very good as well Large free car park as well 5 minutes walk to town centre

Our room was spacious and well equipped. Generous servings at breakfast. Plenty of parking.
