The Frobisher Inn

Michelle was fantastic at arranging the best rooms with the best views and providing printed information on how to make the most of our experience in Iqaluit. The rooms were perfect; the bigger room was especially nice with double aspect views and a super deep jacuzzi bath! It was heaven after a day out in the elements. The restaurant food was very good and the service from all staff was top notch! A truly memorable experience and the the hotel played a big part in that.

This Iqaluit hotel is part of the Astro Hill Terrace complex which includes a grocery store, theatre, ATM, Canada Post, Caribrew coffee shop, The Frob restaurant, Storehouse Bar & Grill, hair salon, cellphone store all attached to the W.G. Brown Government of Nunavut office building and some private residences. The inside amenities are handy in winter. The is a complementary limited shuttle service to and from the airport or a $20 fixed fare. Six steps up to the front door; no ramp. My room overlooked the building front so no view of the town or bay. There was a small fridge, microwave and safe in the room plus a TV with 70+ Iqaluit Cable channels listed on a printed card but they often changed to a different program/channel without notice. The white bathroom was clean with small vials of soap, lotion, shampoo, etc. but no safety bars in the shower surround or anti-slip mat for the tub. Treacherous when wet. The hall carpet looked old and dirty and in need of replacement when the rooms were upgraded. Breakfast at 7:00 AM in The Frob. First morning I had their Western Omelet but there were no mushrooms or peppers, just onion, a little cheese and some dark diced something. It came with toast (white bread only), potatoes and coffee. The second morning I opted for the Full Frob – two eggs over, bacon, potatoes and toast (white bread only again) and coffee. Each breakfast cost $25. Returning to my room, the key card did not work. Back down to Reception to re-initialize it. Next morning, it did the same thing. Irritating. While there I asked for a map. No map available. Online info sparse. Visitors Centre was not helpful. The grocery store at Frobisher Inn had a good selection of food (boxed, canned, frozen) along with some fresh produce, all at high northern prices. There was a small souvenir section near the front cash, but it had not been re-stocked and only a few items remained – XL-size T-shirts, $30 coffee mugs, some books, one black tuque, a few key chains. Like the hotel, could be much better.

You never know what accommodations will be like in remote locations, but The Frobisher Inn did not disappoint. The building is modern, refurbished, comfortable and clean. For convenience, there is an attached grocery store and the very popular Storehouse Grill. Staff were all very pleasant with a special shoutout to Michelle who over delivered.

This is my second time staying at the Frobisher Inn, and again, I had another pleasant stay - staff are friendly and helpful, rooms clean and comfortable. My only complaint would be the inability to adjust the room temperature - which seems to be commonplace in many of the northern inns. Computers are available in the main lobby but wifi can be a little slow. Shuttles to and from the airport are available Monday-Friday or you can take a taxi for $6 - but walking is totally doable @ 15-20 minutes (if you travel light) with some mild hills. There is a shortcut path behind the hotel that leads down to the main road and the Northmart (and the local Tim Hortens). Gym is fantastic for hotel standards - especially in the north! Super clean and stocked with all the basics. Non hotel patrons can pay a fee to use the facilities as well. Go ahead and book a room with a view of the bay - it's definitely worth the extra few bucks. Make sure you check out the art from local artists that frequent the hotel! It's always more meaningful to meet the artist themselves rather than buying from a store.

My stay at the Frobisher Inn was excellent. The reception staff were very knowledgeable and helpful, including arranging an early check in. The rooms were very clean and well equipped. The Caribrew Cafe had great coffee and sandwiches, and the breakfast at The Frob was delicious! The shuttle service to and from the airport was also very convenient.

Excellent restaurants on site. Walking distance to grocery store and hospital. Half hour walk to airport.

Fantastic room and service I asked for a microwave, and not only did they deliver a brand new microwave still in the box, but Ismail set it up for me. Once he was done that he fixed my tv! Top notch service

The hotel is very well kept up-to-date. They have a pub and a pharmacy within the hotel. The elevators were down while I was there, but one of the hotels workers, Ismail went above and beyond by helping me bring my luggage to my room.

Always a cozy stay at The Frobisher inn. The front desk is always helpful - especially Marjorie. The cleaning crew is always friendly and remembers me from my previous stays. Ismail always helpful if there is a maintenance issue. Always recommend to my team.
