Bridgend Hotel

This hotel is extremely comfortable and nothing is too much trouble for the highly attentive staff The food is excellent and it’s good to see use of local produce where possible Rooms are well furnished, spacious and nicely decorated A pleasure to stay here

During our two-plus weeks in Scotland we decided to put Islay on the front of our holiday, as we were interested in touring some of the distilleries there and flights from Glasgow Airport were reasonably priced (did not want to attempt the car ferry as we understood it breaks down with some sort of predictability). We stayed only one night on the island and we are kicking ourselves for not staying longer! The Bridgend Inn was one of the most charming we have ever seen in our travels through England and Scotland over the years, and the food! Amazing! A small operation, yes, but we truly dined like royalty during supper and breakfast the next day! So kind and helpful to us, but the real reason for this review is the unfortunate misplacing of my raincoat I had brought (and certainly needed). Upon our leaving I neglected to check the cupboard and only noticed its absence once we got to our next destination in Inverary, so I emailed the staff at Bridgend and they promised to look for it. Assuming I would never see it again I received an email within the hour, saying that it was indeed left in our room and would I like to have it mailed back to our home? As we were heading north I told them that would be the best option and gave them my credit card number. We managed the rest of the trip without it, and a few days after getting back to the U.S. a large parcel arrived, and there was my raincoat packed as if it had been purchased at Harrods and neatly folded with such care that I just looked at it with amazement. They truly went above and beyond and it certainly coloured our journey through the Highlands as we reflected on the true kindness of these strangers, and how much we wish to return to this little spot in Scotland. I cannot recommend this B&B highly enough.

Great to not cook and thanks to Elise for service with a smile. Made me feel relaxed and thanks for fitting me in with no booking. Now time to walk back to bowmore. In training for kilt walk so that’s that. Had scallops and soup and cheesecake Another nice meal and happy chap

Dined here with family from Manchester. Everything was perfect. Friendly, cheerful staff and tasty food. Great choices which suited everyone including my cousin’s vegetarian partner. The local langoustines were the biggest I’ve ever eaten. Highly recommend Bridgend.

Stayed here for one night. The room was great but service was unpersonal and not very fast. The price was rather steep which made ud expect more. Breakfast (fuld scottish) included. But ordinair. Felt pre-fabricated. Would not stay here again when considering quality/price ratio.

On a tasting tour with my 2 bros. The rooms were perfect for all 3. Even better the food was excellent! The breakfast was included. They have a very cozy pub and lounge too. The staff all were happy and willing to share stories and history of the island. We will be back!

Outstanding! Lovely friendly & efficient staff - in all areas of the hotel. Very clean, tasteful & comfortable room. Food was the best we had on Islay - breakfast AND dinner. Expertly cooked and great portions. The attention to detail & service standards are notable. Really lovely lady at breakfast - she was warm & welcoming and super efficient in topping up the buffet table. Finally - if the weather is kind - enjoy the delightful garden.

Good is amazing and staff are lovely. Great meal out and good company. Highly recommend coming here for a meal or a drink. The best service and great conversation always happening with the locals. Fun events happen each week and never a negative energy!

On our return to this fabulous island we again chose to stay at the “Heart of Islay”, the Bridgend Hotel. The Hotel is a perfect base to travel around the island with the bus stop at the front door and a convenience shop across the road. The incredible staff really do make the place with award winning manager, Megan providing a warm Islay welcome and great local knowledge.  The rooms have very large and incredibly comfortable beds and thanks to Fay are spotlessly clean. The restaurant and bar areas are perfect as is the impressive menu on offer whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner. As such a well respected venue it can be busy, especially for dinner, so book well in advance. The friendly and professional front of house staff of Martika, Margaret, Gemma, Lauren and Elise work tirelessly to make sure you enjoy your visit and are made very welcome. Megan and her team are undoubtedly the reason people continually revisit and that’s not just locals. Thanks to Storm Kathleen we had to stay an extra night which for many would have been a concern but not at the Bridgend it was a delight! There will undoubtedly be other staff members who I have not mentioned, such as the chef and his team, who make a significant contribution to the success of the hotel so thank you to them as well. Whether you’re staying, dining or simply having a drink in the bar it comes highly recommended. We will return soon to once again appreciate the original Islay experience.
